Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina says sermons delivered by Hifazat-e Islam chief Ahmad Shafi are 'disgusting' and 'distastesful'.

The Prime Minister has joined ranks with scores of others who have taken apart Shafi for his sermons.

“I’ve heard Allama Shafi’s statement in TV couple of times. I believe, what he said is terribly disgusting and distasteful,” she said at a programme at the Ganabhaban on Saturday.

Hasina observed women had been granted highest rights and independence in Islam.

“What he (Shafi) said about women was very dirty and despicable,” Hasina said.
Various quarters flayed Shafi after the video clip of his sermon at Hathazari circulated on social websites.

The Hifazat chief forbade women's educating girls and suggested confining them within the four walls.

Critics alleged Shafi’s statement about women were outright offensive.

Hasina said women’s dress would depend on place, time and situation and none have the right to dictate that.

“Doesn’t he have a mother, sister, wife? We have to defend the honour of our mothers-sisters-wives.”

The Hifazat chief has opposed the National Women Policy, including education and employment of women, and what he describes as 'public mixing of sexes'.

“ আপনারা মহিলারা মার্কেট করতে যাবেন না। স্বামী আছে সন্তান আছে তাদের যাইতে বলবেন। আপনি কেন যাবেন? আপনি স্বামীর ঘরের মধ্যে থাইকা উনার আসবাব পত্র এগুলার হেফাজত করবেন। ছেলে সন্তান লালন পালন করবেন। এগুলা আপনার কাজ। আপনি বাইরে কেন যাবেন?

আপনার মেয়েকে কেন দিচ্ছেন গার্মেন্টসে কাজ করার জন্য? চাকরি তো অনেক করতেসেন। আপনি নিজে করতেসেন, আপনার বউ করতেসে,মেয়েরা করতেসে। কিন্তু কুলাইতে তো পারতেসেন না। খালি অভাব আর অভাব। আগের যুগে রোজগার করত একজন, স্বামী। সবাই মিইলা খাইত। এখন বরকত নাই। সবাই মিইলা এতো টাকা কামাইয়াও তো কুলাইতে পারতেসেন না। গার্মেন্টসে কেন দিচ্ছেন আপনার মেয়েকে? সকাল ৭/৮ টায় যায়, রাত ১০/১২ টায়ও আসেনা। কোন পুরুষের সাথে ঘোরাফেরা করে তুমি তো জান না। কতজনের সাথে মত্তলা হচ্ছে আপনার মেয়ে তা তো জানেন না। জেনা কইরা টাকা কামাই করতেসে, বরকত থাকবে কেমনে?

আপনারা মেয়েদের স্কুল, কলেজ, ভার্সিটিতে লেখাপড়া করাইতেসেন। কেন করাইতেসেন? তাদের ক্লাস ফোর ফাইভ পর্যন্ত পড়াইবেন যাতে বিবাহ শাদী দিলে স্বামীর টাকা পয়সার হিসাব রাখতে পারে। বেশি বেশি আপনার মেয়েকে স্কুল কলেজ ভার্সিটিতে পড়াইতেসেন,লক্ষ লক্ষ টাকা খরচ করতেসেন। কিছুদিন পর আপনার মেয়ে, স্বামী একটা নিজে নিজে জোগাড় কইরা লাভ ম্যারেজ কোর্ট ম্যারেজ কইরা চইলা যাবে। আপনার কথা স্মরণ করবে না। মহিলাদের ক্লাসের সামনে বসানো হয়। পুরুষরা কি লেখাপড়া করবে? মেয়ে মানুষ হচ্ছে তেঁতুলের মত। ছোট্ট একটা ছেলে তেতুল খাইতেসে, তা দেখলে আপনার মুখ দিয়া লালা ঝরবে। তেতুল গাছের নিচ দিয়া আপনি হাইটা যান তাইলেও আপনার লালা ঝরবে। দোকানে তেঁতুল বিক্রি হইতে দেখলেও আপনার লালা ঝরবে। ঠিক তেমনি মহিলাদের দেখলে দিলের মাঝে লালা ঝরে। বিবাহ করতে মন চায়। লাভ ম্যারেজ কোর্ট ম্যারেজ করতে মন চায়। দিনরাত মেয়েদের সাথে পড়ালেখা করতেসেন, আপনারা দিল ঠিক রাখতে পারবেন না। রাস্তাঘাটে মেয়েদের সাথে চলাফেরা করতেসেন, আপনার দিল ঠিক রাখতে পারবেন না। যতই বুজুর্গ হন আপনার মনের মাঝে কু খেয়াল আইসা যাবে। এইটা মনের জেনা, দিলের জেনা। এইটা একসময় আসল জেনায় পরিণত হবে। কেউ যদি বলে মেয়ে মানুষ দেখলে আমার দিলের মাঝে লালা ঝরে না, তাহলে বলব তোমার ধ্বজভঙ্গ রোগ আছে। তোমার পুরুষত্ব নস্ট হয়া গেসে। তাই মহিলাদের দেখলে তোমার কু ভাব আসে না। "

Apart from some statement about women(which in Islam by the way has been told and portrayed different) his vew about conduct of women in our society right now(shahabagh/nights spent of young men and women without any decorum)still holds some merit.I have heard Saydee in the past about their interpretation of Islam is wrong and against our religion. Sadly without reading the book in Bangla, I can say 90% Bangladeshi people rely heavily upon these Mollas who's own knowledge is questionable.

How do you know this version is more correct than the one written by Allama Syeedi. Tafsir is just tafsir. It can not be same as original Arabic text. Tafsir is only for us to understand the content yet we still need to read the original Arabic version.

Unit you become a Mufassir e Quran, you can not conclude that one is better then other because you are not in position to make such conclusion. You may prefer one over other but that doesn't mean one is more correct then other. I hope you understand what I am trying convey here and not take it wrong way.

If Hifazat really believe what is said in the video, it shouldn't really align itself with BNP, who has reached to Dr. Yunus, an advocator of women's right development. Neither should they side with a political party which is headed by a woman. Their actions contradict what they say, proving once again, politicians can say whatever they want to get in power.
