Unwanted Fighter : MIG-35

Whatever you say, but it is fact that we cannot see Pakistan with a fighter like MiG-35...Coz we know the capability of MiG35 very well…we have rejected this one in MMRCA, it does not mean that it is bad…As you can see we are using MiG29K for our carrier, it is same as MiG-35 in every aspects with folding wing.

Agree, MiG35 and MiG29K has many similarities. I hope India will buy some MiG35 as Air superiority fighter. Note that MiG25UPG is Indian Superiority fighter.

MMRCA didn't asked Superiority fighter rather they asked for Multirole (More focus on Ground attack).

I don't think India will go for any air suiriority fighter other than Su30MKI. And it shouldn't.

GOIs decreased interest in Russian hardware is mainly due to delayed delivery schedules, price hike during delivery and lack of continuity in spare supply. Mig 35 is good plane. It is better than Mig 29 ( my personal opinion ). It has advantage of lower price to the other brands EU and USA. but Russian industries may be due to slow economy are not able to maintain the timeline. Government of Russia should look into it ASAP or it will be too late for the sale

But possibility is there...coz LCA is getting delayed…MiG-35 can be good interceptor…Operational cost will be low.

Nothing will improve as long as there is no state patronage in this project, Russia needs to come up and induct 150 of those to infuse trust in this project. International orders will keep flowing in if they do that.

“The situation with these tenders has nothing to do with any systemic problems,” Isaikin told the Vedomosti newspaper. “To my mind, the MiG-35 fighter plane has lost the tender in India because it was not mass-produced. At the same time, French and U.S. companies were able to submit their production versions,” Isaikin added.

:disagree: Or we take the facts and say it's simply an upgrade version of an outdated design with no future potential anymore!

Mig 35 is essentially an upgraded Mig 29. They should loose the name Mig 35 and market it as an upgraded Mig 29, a lot of coutnries who country operate Mig 29s will go for it.

The Mig 29s were and will be sold to markets where western fighters won't be available like Syria today, but now the Russians have credible competitions for Chinese as well and they offer the same advantages too. Cost-effectiveness, sanctionproof weapons and spares, political support, but China has the better future potential, just like a J10 offers certain advantages over the old Mig design.

Can the Mig be used by Indian navy or do they have make changes?? Because if yes then why not go ahead and buy these, or are they the same?

Mig 29K and Mig 35 have the same base, the only external differences are the wings, which are foldable for the K and bigger with 2 additional hardpoints for the 35 (at least that should have been the production version). Both already have the same engine, while the 35 adds TVC and it has the AESA version of the Zhuk radar that the K and SMTs operates. So with the next upgraded INs Mig 29s will be Mig 35Ks anyway (except of 2 hardpoints).

Besides can Indian MIG-29s be upgraded to MIG-35 ?

INs yes, as explained above, IAFs no since they have the older airfame.

If you remember the banglore airshow, Mig 35's (essentially Mig20OVT's) maneuvers literally did stuff deemed impossible, rafale and ef drivers were stunned, f18 pilot couldn't believe their eyes. I still think there is room for additional 65-100 mig 35's in IAF's inventory as long as it is offered with a better Zhuk Aesa, 3D TVC and OLS 30.

One of the most important feature overlooked in this article is open architecture of MIL-STD-1553 bus, it can essentially fire vympel R37 r33, r27 r77 rvv ae, rvv sd,rvv md, KH31, KH172, derby, python, matra magic, AS 37 Martel, meteor and astra.

The relevance of such manoeuvres in today's age of high-g ..off boresight missiles is another factor.
The Mig-35 may have vowed the audience.. but any such aircraft would be easy kill for an Aim-9X shot 70 degrees off boresight.
Its advantage was in the commonality it offered, and the Mil bus you mentioned..
But it would seem it came up short on the man machine interface and adaptability.

MKI has, FGFA and AMCA will have TVC, so what's the point? The fact is, it offers nothing that we wouldn't have already through MKI and Super 30 by 2015, be it TVC, Russian AESA, IRST or weapons, while any western fighter offers alternative capabilities to IAF, which gives tactical advantages. One of the main reasons I prefered Rafale was, that it complements MKI perfectly, unlike the Mig 35 that is based on similar advantages, but not as advanced. Kargil showed how important it is to have advantages, be it in terms of fighter with different capabilities or different weapons itself, that's why from operational terms (besides it's individuell disadvantages) the Mig never had a chance in IAF anymore. Remember, even in the earlier MRCA, the Mirage 2000-f, Gripen C/D and F16 B52s were prefered from IAF over Mig 29SMTs!

the best fighter PAF can get

affordable+effective

Sir g sorry but these 2 words just cannot be associated with mig series. every one knows that Mig29 is cheap to buy but highly expensive to maintain and operate. Although i do like mig35 but problem is that Airforce is not a machli mandi so you cann't buy items just like that.

IAF have MKIs for that purpose. Why buy mig 35. Evenif IAF want more logically they will order Super Sukoi or Su-34/35 why Mig ???
The roles Mig 35 supposed to do are already covered. So no place for Mig 35. If LCA get more delayed IAF will go for more Rafales. Not Mig35

MiG-35 has a big chance of making it to IAF if HAL screws up rafale production(which it will IMO), like it is screwing up MKI. After 126 fighters, the follow up order is still up for grabs. It is going to be the same story of Mirage-2000 vs MiG-29 procurement all over again. MiG-35 with 11 tonne empty weight, AESA, 5 hardpoints(although only 4 is shown on the prototypes)and thrust vectoring is a formidable plane. MiG-35's final prototype with composites and everything is still isn't ready, as usual funding problems.

Oscar - I am not convinced Mig-35 is an easy kill for an AIm-9X, only possible if it is flying without armament.
