The Kingdom Tower, the world's largest tower planned hasn't even had it's foundation laid down yet and its already going to have to surrender its record to the new Azerbaijan Tower that will be built in Azerbaijan's capital Baku.

The future isn't in Dubai or Saudi Arabia it's going to be on a city of 41 artificial islands called the Khazar Islands that'll cost $100 billion to construct and be home to the world's tallest building. The Azerbaijan Tower, as the Avesta Group of Companies is calling it, will reach 1050 meters into the sky.

To put that height into perspective, that's 220 meters taller than the Pringles-can shaped Burj Khalifa and 50 meters taller than the Kingdom Tower (expected completion in 2016/2017). The tower will also be able to survive 9.0 magnitude earthquakes, in case you're the worrying type.

Ultimately, the Khazar Islands will bring about a new center of business and commerce, providing homes for over 1 million residents in high-rise buildings. A Formula 1 race track, new bridges and an airport will be built as well.

Just wow is all I can say if it does get built! i shall be following it on SkyScraperCity for sure

Is Azerbaijan running out of space? I hate when nations embark upon building the 'tallest' tower just to show off. It serves minimal economic purpose, and does not justify the massive amount of money spent.

anyways... looks like a space shuttle about to be launched from the launchpad.

Still think the Burj Khalifa is a better design in my view

Which Azerbaijani companies will fill those buildings?
I don't believe it..
A propaganda project of Aliyev..
Azerbaijan was a poor country in the dictatorship of Aliyev family..
Other all Turkish countries developed rapidly but beautiful Azerbaijan was a underdeveloped country unfortunately..
And now Aliyev fear than a Azeri spring..!
Therefore he prepared eyewash and sleeping project for angry people..

Azerbaijani people don't like Aliyev??? That is crazy talk at its best.... Azerbijan is one of the most advanced Turkic/Muslim state in living standarts... They don't spend their oil and natural gas money for extereme military equipments or to opress people like many other oil rich countries....

Azerbeijan has one of the biggest advencement plan on this earth right now. They are building Flame Towers... They are building Cultural Center. From an archtecture students point of view, These buildings are state of art. Azerbeijan is creating a new identity for themselves with these projects...

Please don't make this thread into a troll war with your post that include little knowledge....

you cant expect a country to become top notch democracy and freedom in top class in some years...

Turkey's democracy is some 80-90 years old and we still dont have a perfect democratic system. democracy doesn't come over the night.

good going for Azerbaijan. i would feel much safer in this building than in burj khalifa, more so because of the shape. :D

good work, we can see how well Azerbaijan is spending it's money from their oil revenues.

First of all, this has nothing to with Aliyev or government of Azerbaijan, it's a private project...

"Which Azerbaijani companies will fill those buildings?"

Really? So you mean Azerbaijani companies cannot have their own skyscrapers? Look at building of SOCAR for instance;

What are you smoking dude? Azerbaijan are the most developed country among former-Soviet Turkic states alongside Kazakhstan. And not only among Turkic states, Russia-Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan are the most developed CIS states.

Oh those Gulf Arabs wasting their money again to make large buildings only what a stupid move....

Huh?? What's that?? It is Azerbaijan that is building it?? Oh then congratulations this is a sign of strong economic prosperity keep up the good work.

Umm quick question, isnt this gonna affect the airpath of planes???

If yes, that means the airport must be build far away from these buildings, which might cause connectivity problems.

Anyway, i would love to see the tower get build :) :)

If no one would fill skyscrapers in Azerbaijan, then I really wonder who the hell is investing in such projects. :D

These private investors must be out of their mind, they should have asked "Murat".
