NATO support for Israeli nukes awes Iran

Iran brushes aside the parallel drawn by the NATO chief between its conventional missile program and Israel's 'supposed nuclear arsenal'.

Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer had said on Monday that because of Iranian missiles, he would never expect Tel Aviv to abandon its nuclear program - which is believed to be producing at least 7-8 atomic bombs per year.

"As we all know, Israel never admits to what it has, but I do not see very many arguments for the Jewish state to abandon its potential," Scheffer said in his Monday address.

On Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi rejected Scheffer's claims and stressed that Iran's nuclear program is solely directed at the civilian applications of the technology.

Qashqavi advised Scheffer to base his judgment on factual evidence presented by the UN nuclear watchdog, which has monitored Iran's activities since 2003.

In the UN body's latest report on Iran, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it could not find any 'components of a nuclear weapon' or 'related nuclear physics studies' in the country.

Contrary to the findings of the IAEA, the United States, Israel and their European allies allege that a nuclear Iran would pose an existential threat to Tel Aviv, accusing the country of seeking nuclear weaponry.

The Iranian spokesman pointed out that the Islamic Republic has never initiated any act of aggression against any nation, while Israel has a clear record of initiating war and violating the sovereignty of its neighbor.

Iran is a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and, thus, entitled to enrich uranium for its under-construction power plants.

Meanwhile, Israel, which is widely believed to possess some 200-300 nuclear warheads, has repeatedly refused to ratify the treaty.

Former US president Jimmy Carter confirmed in late May that Israel is the sole possessor of a nuclear arsenal in the Middle East.

Qashqavi said the NATO secretary-general's comments regarding Israel's nuclear arsenal, which pose a 'grave danger' to regional countries, have raised eyebrows in Iran and the international community.

You can't blame the Israelis, they are surrounded by enemies so their security and existence is at stake. Without the outside assistance, Israel will fall.

Israel is the strongest in the ME if you include the US military. Even though this is the case, Israel has a concern to be scared.

Iran's missiles would eventually get better and longer range. They might also get nuclear weapons and with statements like "Israel should be wiped off the map", burning Israeli flags and chanting "Death to Israel".

The Iranian missiles are not that stage to hit Israel or harm it as only range is not all you need to do that. Rather warheads are more important which Iran doesn not have and can not have before atleast 15 years.

The Israelis thinks that their nuclear program is the only deterrence and protection to their existence. They believe in that more than planes, boats or missiles.

The Iranian missiles are not that stage to hit Israel or harm it as only range is not all you need to do that. Rather warheads are more important which Iran doesn not have and can not have before atleast 15 years.

True that the Iranian missile technology is still primitive, but none the less, until the notion of "Israel should be wiped off the map", Burning Israeli flags and chanting "Death to Israel" stops, and I don't see this happening with the current regime let alone 15 years. Israel's best deterrent is still their nuclear program because Iranian advancement will not stop and eventually, it will become a threat.

This question is complicated and multifaceted. This would derail the thread. But direct comparison is difficult because you need to take into account of the US assistance to Israel.

Some people would even say Israel is an extension of the US arm.

Israel has more advance fighter jets than of pakistan...But by the grace of ALLAH,we have started modernization of our airforce..will be inducting more advance f16,fc20 and our pride jf17.Also We have one of the best Pilots of the world but we lack in advance fighters except f16 at this point of time...

Israel has more advance fighter jets than of pakistan...But by the grace of ALLAH,we have started modernization of our airforce..will be inducting more advance f16,fc20 and our pride jf17.Also We have one of the best Pilots of the world but we lack in advance fighters except f16 at this point of time...

The Falcon is indeed a good bird I can see it being the work horse of many air forces around the world for many years to come. Not to put you down or anything but if we are only comparing fighters, then Israel will soon have the Lightning II and Pakistan's most advanced fighter could be the FC-20 if that comes to fruition.

So the IAF is still better than the PAF.
