Russia hails Pakistan’s SCO bid

Have you ever thought of Russia and China 'anticipating' the withdrawal of America and that India is actually prolonging the American stay by playing ball with the Americans in the region? What Russians did was not only a kick on the backside to India, but also signify it's growing intent that Russia wants to secure its routes into the ME as well as Africa for future energy, resource and business needs. The opening of the supply route for the U.S. is merely a tap controlled by Russia, they can open it just as easily as they can close it. Moreover the route was meant to be a supply route for their drone campaign. Would Russia still consider access for the Americans when pakistan becomes an ally and a member of the SCO? :azn:

So basically China-Russia wants to see Pakistan and the ME stabilized.
All three members wants to better ties and cooperation to counter terrorism and securing eachother's mutual interests.
Also the less influence NATO has in the region the better it is for Asia.

SCO isn't a military bloc, but if anyone attacks members of the SCO, I am pretty sure it will bring about unwanted consequences. Dare NATO attack anyone of them? I don't think they would.

If International Politics really worked this way i would be surprised !!!!!!

Too much on stake for us and Russia both to kick each other on the back side buddy.

You can believe whatever you want and i actually have no problem with Pakistan becoming a member of SCO but i don't think Russians would actually think like this. As already nick Indian has provided you with links, Russians aren't the ones having problem with USA's stay here. I am not saying they have become a stooge of USA which is impossible to say in the least, but are wary of the fallout of a quick withdrawal of America. Even China doesn't have a problem with it. Atleast openly i mean.

At the end of discussion its just that Russia is trying to get into the inner side of what is happening between USA and Pakistan as it directly impinges on its strategic future. Nothing wrong in Pakistan and Russia having good ties.

things are simple, india just cannot have both ways. u.s.a/west, or s.c.o.

you guys are naive, good things always happen to india, bad thing always, wow to pakistan. and india media is facinated with the west.

at the time i think pakistan's join SCO can be justified. and it's the time.

and joining SCO is not the best interest of india, for india's own good.

It's a meaningless news. I don't know why Pakistanis are getting so excited about this.

The Indians are 100% right. This will not put a fly's weight worth of dent in the India-Russia relationship.

Darkest hour the night not because it is really dark, but because it is closest to the dawn. Congratulations Pakistan!!

Pakistan's geographic location is mostly a curse. I would have preferred Pakistan were an island nation, somewhere in the middle of the Pacific. And yet, because of the geographic location, major powers inevitably draw to Pakistan.

Sir,

Then the fish ( our neighbours ) around the island would have been miserable----.

No, this is not the same. Yes, you are right, Russia and India have a significant interest, why through this, even though India's objections? because some things more important.

CD meant that Russia gave its backing to Pakistan. When both China and Russia is in favour, then it's pretty much a done deal. Now we only need to wait for formality sake.

ok , how much time you think to complete these formalities , two day , a week , months , years ? it not going to happened ,

for the reasons :

pakistan himself will not join SCO coz pakistan still like to be on the side of USA , even it was advertised that SCO is not a militry alliance but US thinks otherise...can pakistan afford to helt all defence corporations with US , can pakistan afford to put their F-16 into hangers due to unavailibilty of US support...

This is a prototype for the post-American era in Central Asia. through dialogue and cooperation to solve regional problems, we all are in the region, war and instability is not in our interests.

Sorry, perhaps I don't understand international relations as well as some but I never understood the point of joining these organizations. It's the same comment that I had on the BRICS alliance.

The only alliance that matters is a binding military alliance like NATO. Other than that all these economic organizations are meaningless. Any two countries can negotiate mutual treaties and conduct a relationship without the need of an umbrella organization.

China is in no way hoping for an early withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan. They would rather like to create another North Korea and engage US and ebb its power with the continued involvement in Afghanistan. So let us leave that out. In the scheme of things, afterall Pakistan is a mere instrument. Regarding Russia, leave it be, they will find closer and more meaningful friends on the west of their borders. The usage of Russia & China is finding place too often for convenience isn't it? Please do not interpret the coquetish Russian dalliance as anything more than what it is. The Russians have known that and the one party in China knows that too.

I also do not have professional point of view on international politics, but hope to share some views. Just say one thing, things will change according to situation. The SCO is not now, but it does not mean that will not change later. Any change things always because of two things, internal changes and external changes. Now some things are changing. of course, is not necessarily enough to close a military alliance, but an economic, political, and military of the close relationship is possible. Of course, to become NATO type alliance , though I think chances are small, but not zero possible.

Sometimes people have to take their chances as they come. You never know how long you have to wait until the next boat arrives, it may or it may not. India already opted out and lost out on the chance to. Pakstan will still be able to do business internationally, it will not stop countries from making deals with them. Being in a defensive bloc means cost will be spreaded amongst all members when it comes to counter terrorism. You never know, it may even pave way for future military tech collaboration and we may end up being a bit like NATO in terms of having members using same defense systems to make things logistically efficient. All this plus investments pouring into pakistan will help Pakistan's economy boom as it will have more spending power and more money to spend developing its country.

I like SCO; SCO maintains a power balance in global affairs.

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is an intergovernmental mutual-security organisation.

But for Pakistan this is not a good time to join any power bloc.

First Pakistan need to fix some of it’s economic problems and also other internal problems, I think only after that they should consider this issue.

What will be the impact if Pakistan joins SCO now?

Directly or indirectly it will impact Turkey Pakistan ties, Turkey being a NATO member it will force them to reduce some corporation with Pakistan.

Also Pakistan operates American military products, do you think US will be happy about Pakistan joining another power bloc?

Pakistan needs to get European Union Trade concessions, to increase its exports; also currently Pakistan inviting investors from European Union (for more info see the Pakistani pm’s visit to France) do you think EU will be happy about Pakistan joining another power bloc?

Pakistan needs strong economic ties with Japan & South Korea, also currently Japan & South Korea provides financial assistance to Pakistan, we all know Japan & South Korea maintains strategic relations with US, do you think Japan & South Korea will be happy about Pakistan joining another power bloc?

Now Let’s think about Pakistan GCC relations, all GCC members maintains strong ties with US & EU, all GCC members operates American military products and also European military products. What will be the reaction from GCC if Pakistan joins another power bloc?

I hope Islamabad won’t join any power bloc for now, Now Islamabad needs to safe guard its economic interest’s first then any other issue, let’s fix the economy first friends…

Important Notice

Joining SCO or getting SCO membership mean withdrawing from Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is a group of states considering themselves not aligned formally with or against any major power bloc.

This is the main reason some Asian countries not interested to get membership in SCO.

Majority of Asian countries are members of Non-Aligned Movement.

Excellently said, SL. SCO is more of a trade treaty than a real security treaty. Russia is miffed at not being able to join WTO. But there is no chance whatsoever that Russia will come for any of SCO's states military help. Russia is more interested in protecting what it considers its sphere of influence, especially in eastern europe, trying to diffuse tensions with NATO and pick up threads of the erstwhile soviet union.

Russia has simply welcomed Pakistan's gesture to become a permanent member. Those expecting S-300 batteries (co-incidentally these very people rated it as third class in comparison to Chinese copies!) soon, hold your horses - for eternity.

And about India, India dont need no SCO for epanding trade with these countries. Indo-Russian relationship has been strong and will remain so. Sino-Indian relationship is based on trade and no one is going to make a move to disrupt that.

So fanbois, enjoi the news till the fizz in Beer lasts!

I don't this that's very likely. SCO has been around for a while, but China and Russia started BRICS. What is their priority in case there is a conflict between the two? Which alliance is more important? If they are both important, then neither one is important.

Like I said, the only alliance that matters is a binding military alliance. Everything else is just silly.

i think once pakistan join SCO , it will be easier for india to explore it's options to join NATO..
