Btw, these are mostly line drawings, and leaves a lot based on your interpretation of those images. Where I see purity of soul, you see vulgarity. Perceptions!

I dont understand what pure soul would depict Durga Devi in such a manner or Lakshmi Devi in such a manner.

But anyway you have made up your mind and as you said - you 'seem' to see the pure part. Not the obvious part.

People are filing PILs right? Lodged FIRs right? So who is asking them to stop doing that? But pray, do tell me, what is constitutional about BD/VHPs threats to MF Hussain? And yet you seem to support that?

My question - were the threats carried out. He was in India for plenty of time to carry out those threats. But they were not carried out.

We are not talking about any other religion. We are talking about Hinduism and tolerance is one of the most important teachings in Hinduism. However, where is the tolerance shown by BD goons, who claim to uphold Hindu values? Do they have even the slightest idea what they are talking about? I shall reinterate my point - Maturity and Tolerance go hand in hand.

Tolerance - oh yeah the virtue that only the Hindus should have and that too in illimitable amount to bear all the insults heaped on their religion, on their Gods. To hell with that tolerance and also everything has a limit.

And you seem to be fixated in the BD 'goons'. What did they do to Hussein ?? Did they chop off his hand, did they cut off his legs ?? as would have been the case if he had dared to take his artistic flights into the realm of some other religions.

Poor 'goons' they were just threats after threats after threats but did not have the gall to do it.

Seems like most of the indians here including some senior members are pretenders here, when it comes to them, they too start crying like little babies.

What are your personal opinions on the matter? Do you agree that Hussain should apologise? Or do you believe that it is OK to portray religious figures in the 'nude'?

There are plenty of such references in many mantras. But you should look at the context than the word in isolation and I am sure this is not meant to portray Saraswati Devi in a nude manner. For all we know the necklace may even grace her breasts which are covered in silk cloth.

There is no silk cloth dude. It means she is wearing pearl necklace, I tried to give it a flowery look with grace and all!

There was also Murthis of Sarswasti only wearing the pearl necklace, like the one posted by Jayron.

I am not talking about private parts but bare breasted. A lot of the saraswati , Kali and ardanareeshwara sculptures are bare breasted. There are more obscure Devis who are depicted fully nude too.

MF Hussein's paintings are not realistic graphic representations of the figures. one cannot really take it in the literal sense and get offended. Just my opinion.

Like I said before, if someone paints it aesthetically pleasing way with love in his/her heart, I'd not feel offended.

However I'll feel very hurt if it becomes a show of perversion. I'll not look at it.

Even conceding your argument here, what is the justification for the painting of Sita Devi, Lakshmi Devi and Durga Devi in such a manner.

Surely you would not have seen Durga Devi in such a position and that too you are from Bengal where most people worship her.

And please see Bhagat Singh's post on how that old man drew Hitler naked to 'humiliate' him. So he draws Hindu Gods nude to show their purity while at the same time draws Hitler nude to humiliate him ?

No buddy, if you look at the sculptures finely you would see a line running across her breasts.They are supposed to be clothes.

And again which temple you saw those because as far as I have seen Saraswati Devi sculptures are not found outside the sanctum sanctorum.

Any way guys, you seem to have made up your mind that is not insulting (partly because you are agnostic) and I have made up my mind that I am offended.

So let us agree to disagree here because I will not get convinced that I am not offended nor will any change happen in your stance.I have seen how debate works. Most of the time people just harden in their respective stances than getting flexible.

And yes I am not missing that old hag in India. Let him live for the rest of his life on camel meat.
