Sikhs in Canada vote in a Referendum for Khalistan - Sep 2022 .

Apna haath Jagannath.

The Khalistani movement in Canada / UK is so far removed from the ground realities in Indian Punjab. Sikhs are highly integrated into Indian society and know very well that a Khalistan that is out of India's economic orbit makes no sense. They also know that they are better off under the combined military capabilities of India rather than having to protect their own border with Pakistan. The farm protests have rekindled the khujli among expat Jutt Sikhs, making them see a glimmer of hope where none exists.

Having said that, the present government and its troll army has been very petty in social and political handling of the farm protests. They have allowed the resentment towards establishment (mainly Congress) to turn into a resentment against the Indian state and even Hindus. The Khalistanis are out to milk it.

Almost zero coverage in Canadian press for this. I was only able to google 1 paid fluff piece in a local city tabloid. Plenty of coverage in Pakistani press though :undecided:

There are only 10 completely autonomous districts in India and they belong in these 4 states (Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura)

Yes - will be part of greater Bangladesh economic community soon.

But congrats to Punjabi brothers/sisters in advance on achieving independence for Khalistan.

I see the movement gaining momentum with every new debacle this eight pass chaiwala foists.

There is no guarantee he will stop with farm protests.

Every debacle will present new demands with new vigor.

This old saw about the Union center providing "protek-sun" against Pakistani invasion is hogwash.

Why would Pakistan invade? This is 2022, not 1922.

If anything - Khalistan would have far better relations with Pakistan than India does right now, and Punjab is one of the wealthiest states in the Indian Union, which easily justifies their separate sovereign status as a country.

This Mar-mar, Cutt-cutt business is so last century.

The future relations between states is going to be about economic partnerships, trade and wealth.

Plus India would gain a buffer state. Look at it with that lens.

If wishes were wings, pigs will fly.

You know ever tell "Khalistan" to a sikh in India. You will likely have your arse handed to you.

There is more press on what Megan Markel wore on some random day than on Khalistan stupidity. There is actually more press about recent vandalism in a Toronto temple by alleged Khalistani sympathizers. It is likely that even those were not Sikhs but Pakistani diaspora acting on instruction of their embassy.

If khalistan happens then what will happen to indian army

A huge of Chunk of their military is Sikhs including several generals

Nothing will happen because Hindus form a sizable chunk in Punjab. Lastly, will sikh like their temples across India desecrated and destroyed? If Khalistan takes any pace, Sikhs will face genocide, loss of property and destruction of all their temples across India.

Why will anyone do that? Which is better? Having access to market in entire India or just punjab? Will Sikhs like to see Nanded saab desecrated and destroyed? Or Daata Bandee Chhod? Sikhs are wise people. They know which side of the bread has butter.

BTW, here is the results of Khalistan in news search.... Only highlighted one is from Canadian media.

One good sign is that almost every Gurdawar in Toronto is supporting this referendum. They are all prominently displaying support for Kahalistan .

The freedom fever is spreading in Sikh population.

Good luck to them .

You do know Toronto is in Canada?

Sikhs can seek Khalistan in Brompton or Surrey. They are welcome.

I never once felt this khalistan movement is based on anything substantial or even real. I wonder how these people think success is even remotely realistic.

Sikhs are way too well integrated into all aspects of Indian politics, armed forces, government/bureaucracy and economy. It would be similar to India attacking itself.

This isn’t 1984.

Sikhs are only 55% of Punjab and 35% of the sikhs are Dalit Sikhs who hate the Jatts. That makes 36% of Punjab as Jatt Sikhs and majority of them hate the Khalistani propaganda. You are overestimating them.

Poor Sikhs! They are everywhere but their motherland.
Wrong!

"Sikhs number about 25-30 million worldwide, of whom 22–28 million live in India, which thus represents around 90% of the total Sikh population."

They don't.

They are like paid actors who will act out for money. They are just delivering a professional service.

Whenever they have a chance, they flee. Seeing a lot more Sikh oldmen proudly wearing Dastars in my neighborhood these days. There were none 10 years ago.

They don't want to be Indian, but Ironically, in the eyes of others, Sikhs are more distinguishably Indian than Hindus.

Don't care if they get khalistan or not, what they did at the time of independence to those muslims is enough for me to not support this freedom movement, may they spend all their lives in this and not achieve it

*Ahem* Sikhs are among the richest people in India. Very well versed in business. If they all wanted to flee, they would have by now from India. You see Sikhs more because they are more noticeable due to their turbans and nothing more. Its a confirmation bias that you have.

Sikhs are represented in India army in disproportionate numbers. Sikhs have held practically all major posts in India -- including PM. I challenge your opinion that they do not want to be Indians.

By the same token, each day I see Han Chinese coming in MASSIVE numbers in Canada. Hans do not want to be Chinese because they seldom dress in traditional Chinese dresses and wear dresses that look more victorian era british than anything comtemporary.

If anything, its the Chinese who do not want anything to do with China in the west.
