Two girls , one Uighur and probably the another is a Han , touring Xinjiang Urumqi night food market

Yes, China you have brought great prosperity to Xinjiang.

This however cannot make up for your systematic attempt to erase the Xinjiang culture.

Please try to learn from most other countries of the world that embrace different cultures in their citizens rather than try to eradicate it.

Actually the opposite is true, China tries her best to preserve and promote Xinjiang's culture, China built central Asia's largest cultural theaters, museums, markets, costumes dance and food fairs in Xinjiang to attract tourists, those are the ones that sell so much in Xinjiang's booming tourism.

You know people regardless of ethnicity get on. Politicians divide us generally. You get good and bad everywhere

I am talking about allowing Xinjiang native people to practice their religion and culture freely.

Of course China has done great things for it's minorities in terms of economic development but please embrace diversity in your population. Not only will all the people's of China be more loyal citizens but you will be admired by the rest of the world as well.

I think practicing their cultures and religions is not a problem for China's 56 ethnic groups, as long as they don't use that pretext to undermine China's territorial integrity and seek separatism agenda.

Xinjiang is accepted by the world, including Muslim countries, as being part of China. No one disputes that fact.

What people have a problem is trying to force the people of Xinjiang to accept the culture that China deems acceptable.

I dont think Xinjiang is really an autonomous region. Chinese government have changed the demographic of Xinjiang province systematically and Ugyur I believe cannot complain. Ugyur have become minority in their own land. This is I think one thing that make some Ugyur have resentment on Han Chinese and Chinese government.

In Indonesia we have transmigration program during Soeharto ruling where some Javanese are relocated to less populated area in Sumatra island and Kalimantan island but the program doesnt change the demographic too much, local people still dominate their own land. And this transmigration program has been stopped after Indonesia embrace democracy.

All China's 55 ethnic minority groups have equal rights if not more, there is no "special ethnic group" in China, they are treated equally, if some young people from different ethnic groups adopted modern or western life style, it's their own doing and choice, China also doesn't like the young to be too westernized and tried to intervene sometimes, but failed, new things and ideas always emerge to encroach old cultures and customs, that's how our human society develops, no one can stop this trend.

The population in this particular region always change during the whole history, so are their cultures, peoples just come and go, Uighurs themselves are pretty late comers in today's Xinjiang, and Xinjiang used to be a Buddhist region.

I believe it's kind of an over-reaction of China gov regards Arabic Islam influence.
I won't say China don't need reaction though.
It's a typical way how China Gov handle things(I'm not a big fan of it).
They didn't do anything to stop bad trends in the beginning, only when things go out-of-control in the middle-late stage, then they use heavy punches to fix things.

Regards this case, it's slightly out-of-control when Xi came into power. People were learning Arabian language and practice religion in Arabian way.
In some cities, some people even start to try enforcing part of Islamic laws by themselves!!
They were patrolling on the streets and broke into stores to make sure no ones were selling alcohol... Can you imagine this actually happened in China?

Then the XinJiang riots which killed hundreds of Han people is the wake-up call for the China Gov. I believe Kunming bus station terror attack is the last straw of it, it means it started to infect China's core areas. Which crossed almost every single red line of China Gov.

Receiving education getting a job integrated to the society is nothing wrong, most are not forced. Muslims in China will not follow your steps to stay in backward.

You forget how China is forcing Uighur to abandon their culture and that is a recipe for disaster in the long term.
Getting educated and jobs is of course welcomed by everyone.

It's not the case actually.
I happened to see one of Gov's propaganda videos which urge Uighur people to wear their traditional head-scarfs instead of hijab which introduced in very recently years LOL.

Real true authentic dressing and hairstyle that China has been preserving and promoting. Local cultures, clothing, languages and cuisines are all perfectly preserved in Xinjiang, Tibet, Inner Mongolia and other ethnic regions in China.
