That 6 year old died as a result of the decisions made by her mother, who failed in her duty to protect the child from harm.

Awful tragedy. Can't imagine what life must be like for these kids and their parents who struggle around the world as economic migrants or refugees from war. Can't see any solution. Soon we will have climate refugees. Perhaps wars for resources or simply for decent climate conditions will become more common in years to come.

Once upon a time it was the Europeans that were rushing to America....were your ancestors involved? Why did they take the stupid decision and not stay back to fix their country? Just saying! Walk in their shoes for once or you lack the empathy?

Fair enough but I dont believe any parent actually decided that...Unfortunate circumstances..You see in the East, West is shown as compassionate and there is a delusion that once you step on the soil you are or will be protected!

Then again, many always see the grass greener on the other side and some just run towards it without seeing the journey or effort or the risks as in this case!

Even if one is able to enter the country, it will be a long, hot and dry walk to any sort of compassionate protection. Check out an atlas to get an idea of the empty vastness out there. Not a place for a 6 year old, definitely.

The illegal smugglers try to use the vast desert precisely for that reason - that there are no people there - to smuggle illegal immigrants into the country. But that vast desert is also deadly, as we can see in this case. There are many more whose bodies are discovered weeks and months later, and sometimes never.
