ISTANBUL - Daily News with wires

A landmine planted on a road in the southeastern Anatolian province of Batman exploded Saturday night, killing four civilians, including local politicians, news agencies reported.

The outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, is believed to have planted the landmine in Demirlipınar village, near the Hasankeyf district road, the Doğan news agency reported. The explosion reportedly occurred while residents of the village were responding to a fire allegedly set by PKK members at an oil facility near Hasankeyf.

The car that hit the landmine was carrying the headman of Demirbilek village, Sadi Özdemir, who was also the former head of the Human Rights Organization, or İHD’s, Batman branch; his brothers Salih Özdemir, a former local leader of the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party, or BDP, and Sofi Özdemir; and Sedat Özevin, the former head of the Batman Bar Association. All four died in the blast.

Funerals for the three brothers were held Sunday and drew many mourners, including some BDP deputies and Batman Gov. Ahmet Turhan.

A statement from the Governor's Office said the mine was placed by the PKK and added that the outlawed group was also responsible for the attack on the oil facility.

The PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, has intensified its attacks since June.

Yusuf Tanrıseven, the current head of the Batman Bar Association, said their request to examine the scene of the landmine explosion was rejected.

Your problem by its name seems to be similar to our Maoist problem---both Communist menace. I hope may the innocent deceased rest in peace. So sad to hear this news.

That is correct they actually follow the Maoist theroy of war but have failed to achieve the objective of taking the country and ended up losing their foothold in turkey. They now carry out attacks out of Iraq.

Perhaps we can have some sort of arrangement here in removing this menace from our respective countries :azn:.
