What's new

Why was Indonesia not named India?

Yeah, and Indonesian rulers were smart enough to know where India is.

Now you're just coping and making things up.

Indonesians never heard India or Hindia before the Europeans arrived.

Pre-Islamic culture from modern Indian peninsula had reached ancient Indonesia, but I doubt they called your land India back then.

The Indonesians fought bravely and eventually evicted the Dutch colonisers.

'Modern' Indians on the other hand, got a continent-sized land handed to them on a platter without a fight, without name change, law change, bureaucracy change ... only a transfer of elites (British -> Brahmins).

Coping for what and what did I make up?

What Indonesians heard or not is not a matter to us. No Indian wakes up and thinks "yee we reached Indonesia" on a daily basis. We have a history and culture and we are sticking to it after all these years. India, Bharat, whatever the name is. And this history revisionism is like yelling from the side of the mountain into a valley. Go ahead.

That the word India is equally foreign to modern India and Indonesia. You're coping by making up facts about what the rulers of Indonesia thought.. I doubt you've ever read anything written by Indonesia's founders. Just classic coping. Anyways the point is Indonesia was called Dutch India just like you were called British India, you didn't know did you?

I agree. The owners of this site should ban Indian IPs. Unfortunately money triumphs over principles.
Then shut up about this being a Pakistani forum. It is a forum to make money for its owner. They have let Indians to be on here. Next time, rather than begging us to recognise it as PDF, raise a petition for it with the authorities here.

The name India was originaly introduced 2500 years ago by the Persians, who conquered the area of modern day Pakistan during the Achaemenid dynasty. Achaemenids named the whole area after the Indus River.

From Persians the name came to the Greeks and from Greeks to the Romans and from Romans to the peoples of Europe.

Indians themselves never called that area "India".

When British India was divided into India and Pakistan....both countries were thinking of how to name themselves after they gain independence.

Pakistan at first wanted to call itself "India" even ahead of India itself, but Founding Fathers of Pakistan thought that name "India" was associated with the shame of colonialism and they chose the name "Pakistan" instead.

Indians wanted to name their country "Bharat", but decided to retain the name "India" together with "Bharat".

Colombus real target is not India, but Indonesia...
False.
Medieval European powers for long wanted a way to India avoiding the Middle East. This is well known history.

Hindustani is my ancestral identity and we have nothing to do with Persians.

Duh, they want to get the source of spices which is originated from Sulawesi/ Maluccu Island in Indonesian Islands. Portugese latter did conquer Eastern Indonesia and Malacca.

The spices is the most valuable goods because it can make meats preserve much longer.

Arab and Indonesian Kingdom has been traded for so long, even the Barus found in Mummy comes from Sumatra Island. When Arabs become Muslim their traders preach Islam as well to

They wanted the whole world. India was long their Asian 'Eldorado'. This history is acknowledged by Europeans, so don't know what you are arguing about.

Go through what you have written again and you'll realise there are more than one type of spices. So, do you mean to say all of them originated from single island?

Too much "Dune"??

Nevertheless Pakistan should have retained the name India for itself, similar to how Iran has given itself its Iranian identity but also reserves the right to refer to itself as Persia based on history.

Actually hope the Hindutva manage to change Indians name to Bharat and Pakistan reclaims what truly belongs to it.

Indonesia should change the name to something that brings civility and pride attributed to self determination. They should absolve themselves from such racist colonial history.

They can try something like Sumatran Federation or Javan Republic. This name is the reason for most separatist aspirations in Indonesia.
