During colonial times modern India was known as British India whereas Indonesia was knows as Hindia Belanda which translates to Dutch India.

Once British left modern India chose to retain its British given name, but why didn't Indonesia keep the name Hindia and turned into Indonesia instead?

Indonesia attained actual independence.

The Republic of India sees itself as a successor state to British India.

Unfortunately Pakistan does as well.

Indonesia is derived from the Greek/Latin words Indus meaning India and Nesos meaning Island. Basically translates to Indian Islands or Islands of India.

The real India is the place where the spices comes from, and it is in Indonesia. Colombus real target is not India, but Indonesia...:D

Any way Indo means Mix people, it really corresponds to Indonesia though with the population with DNA comes from South East Asia, East Asia, Middle East, South Asian, Melanesian, European.

India itself comes from Pakistan civilization (Indus)

Well, unlike India who is still confused and use European name (which is basically coming from Pakistan areas), Indonesia has used its indigenous name, Nusantara, for its new capital city.

The Dutch absolutely butchered the native Indonesians. The Indonesians fought bravely and eventually evicted the Dutch colonisers.

Hard copium Indos. No, India wasn't called India because it is the land of spices. Even then more than 75% of the spices in the world are from India. So, you are right and wrong at the same time.

The name Indonesia was coined by the British, for whatever reason, in the 20th century, Columbus was in the 15th century, also Columbus wasn't looking for Indonesia. When Columbus set sail he was looking for a trade route to India and Asia through China. He found brown people in South America and thought they were Indians, and that's why natives are still called Indians.

History may be a hard pill to swallow for Pakistanis. But it's not our fault Sukarno decided to opt for the name Indonesia of all names. :D

LOL I couldn't care less, nigga. I am just telling you that not everything belongs to you. You guys have a habit of pretending that everything belongs to Hindustan. It really doesn't.

Again, you are making up an argument to disprove it by yourself. Congratulations genius.

Again, behaving like an uninvited and bad Indian. Do you even know on which forum you are?

Behave like a good and mannered guest.

Dalit, it's the internet. The forum is open to anyone there are no 'invitations'. If you have an issue with it ask the Admins of this page and ask them to stop taking advertisements and stop optimising to Google adsense India and limit it to Pakistan. Your admins make money we enjoy our breaks reading through and sometimes commenting. win win for all.

Yeah I know, but Dutch rulers didn't call it Indonesia, back then it was known as Hindia Belanda (Dutch India).

Most of the posters here, both Indians and Pakistanis, are not actually aware of the fact that the "India" Europe got its spice from at the time of Columbus was Maritime South East Asia.

Actually there is one Indonesian band who makes Hindia as their band name in order to erase this colonialism history on Google search engine. They try to make Hindia in Google search engine becomes a band coming from Indonesia, not talking about Dutch colonialism in Indonesia. And they have made it, first page in Google engine will show this band rather than about Dutch colonization in Indonesia.

Yeah, and Indonesian rulers were smart enough to know where India is. Dutch actually tried to have a colony in India but they were defeated in the Battle of Colachel by the Travancore kings of Kerala, they never recovered from that defeat and gave up the idea of having a colony in India. They settled for the Islands. Hard luck Duchies.
