I was surprised that the Vietnamese would be more forgiving to the Americans than the Chinese who have similar culture considering what they did to them like the million deaths, agent orange and destruction resulting in a war torn nation.

the past is the past. china the biggest threat to Vietnam as of this moment.
The US only invaded them for a decade. China did so for hundreds of years.

U.S tried to stop the NVA invasion.
imagine if the U.S and South Vietnam had won. Vietnam would be in the same class of Japan,South Korea, and Taiwan economically today.

It's because Chinese gave them culture, language and bought civility to primitive people. According to Chinese historian Sima Qian, the first Han general documented the lifestyle of the southern jungle people at the time. He was appalled that people from present day Vietnam lived in straw huts, did not have a written language, lacked etiquette and and ate grass.

It is like your parents raised you and you grew up hating your parents for spanking you when you were caught doing something bad as a child.

China didnt intoxicate their generations nor we have produced large number of films to glorify the massacre of the vietnamese
If they have chosen the path of siding with USA now, then why should they have fought against them and caused the loss of so many lives in the first place?

Vietnam is a kickoff state of China. In reality it doesn't look like what a few viet warriors on the forum show. Our border trade gets bigger everyday. Chinese person pays a two dollar bribe at the border and can travel in Vietnam for weeks. Vietnam to China is like Mexico to the US. Viet girls love to marry with Chinese...

Viets can be divided into three categories: Love China, love Russia and Love the US....lol...I am open for critics..

China is the No 1 trader and perhaps the largest investor too for vietnam.

Are you drunk? Vietnam was established and ruled by China for over a thousand years.

but interestingly, Vietnamese people are very fond of Chinese dramas, movies, music, and novels....
they translated a lot of Chinese movie/dramas/MTV (you can see a lot of viet-sub Chinese drama/movies/MTV)
they have many websites with translated Chinese Internet novels....
they love traditional chinese literature, like Journey to the west, three kindoms, blabla

Thailand and The Phillipines are no richer than Vietnam despite remaining in the US sphere of influence.

lol. Did you even bother reading up on why China "invaded" Vietnam? China has a LOT of neighbors, only one constantly whines about being invaded. That some one that constantly attacks Chinese allies.

They are slightly, but they do exemplify the hypothetical ceiling for an independent South Vietnam's development. It's not so easy to emulate the success of Confucian states like Japan, S. Korea and Taiwan, with their strong emphasis on work ethic, discipline, and order.

Keep in mind half the country was fighting along side the US. It wasn't the US against the entire country.

I can't speak for those two countries, but I would think they have wasted their potential...especially the Philippines.

Cause is very clear.
"If China returned to Vietnam all islands were occupied by force, we can become very good friends. My parents previously had a lot of sympathy for the Chinese, but from 1978 to now, it is no longer so. With me, China is synonymous with aversion, which after all is just because of China seized the Paracel islands and Spratly islands of Viet Nam."

1. There's no free lunch. Any lesson ... by blood. Let think twice.
2. Vietnam love America but hates china ? ... Hmm .... Only in this forum.

Becos vietnamese still live in delusion that China is still the same old backward China in the 70s..

Many still think that Vietnam .... means War
