Terror threats in Bangladesh have gone down in the face of stern actions adopted by the government, says Peter Lavoy, senior director at White House’s National Security Council on South Asia.
“We were worried at the emergence of militancy in Bangladesh. We are working with the government to curb it. We encouraged the authorities to take pragmatic actions against the threat.
Peter Lavoy also said Bangladesh has experienced less militant threats in recent months and that he hopes it will subside further.
He made the statements in reply to a query on the US concerns on militancy in Bangladesh during an interview with the Bangla Tribune, sister concern of the Dhaka Tribune.
The US government last week issued security warning for its citizens in Bangladesh over staying and travelling throughout the country.
Following the Holey Artisan attack, the US government shifted the family members of the staff employed at Dhaka embassy.
