‘US-based group working to establish caliphate’

KARACHI: Pakistan’s security czar has revealed that an extremist group of US citizens of Pakistani origin – Jamaat-e-Islami (Sa’ee) – has been clandestinely working to establish an Islamic caliphate system in the world.

“Imad Riaz, a Pakistani-origin official of the Jamaat-e-Islami (Sa’ee), was extradited by the US authorities to Pakistan on November 19,” Interior Minister Rehman Malik told journalists during a visit to the Anti-Human Smuggling Circle of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Karachi.

Malik added that intelligence officials were interrogating Riaz and that the US and Saudi Arabia were also helping in the investigation process.

According to FIA sources, Riaz disclosed during interrogation that he was associated with California-based Jamaat-e-Islami (Sa’ee), which was working secretly to establish an Islamic caliphate system in the world.

He also revealed that their group was planning to attack US military installations in California. And they had also gathered information about Israeli embassy from the Internet.

According to the FIA sources, Riaz – a resident of the Jublee neighbourhood of Karachi – had shifted to the United States five years ago. His family, including mother, father and brother, are still living in California.

Riaz told interrogators that he met with two persons, whom he identified as Shahab and Bilal, at a mosque near his home in California. The pair was already associated with the Jamaat-e-Islami (Sa’ee).

He disclosed that the group was planning a terrorist attack on a military installation in the region. And for this purpose they had looted five gas stations in the neighbourhood. “The looted money was used to finance the group’s activities,” sources quoted Riaz as telling his interrogators.

Riaz also said that he used to provide only logistic support and did not take active part in robberies. Apart from this he also used to surf different Web sites on the Internet to identify targets to his group for terrorist attacks.

He said that he had given information about the Israeli Embassy and its staff to Shahab and Bilal. However, none of the targets were hit.

Riaz was arrested by US authorities five years back on charges of terrorism and highway robbery. He was sentenced to five years in prison by a US court after he confessed to his crimes. He was extradited to Pakistan on November 19 after serving his five-year jail term.

According to interrogators, the Jamaat-e-Islami (Sa’ee) is a US-based extremist group and it does not exist in Pakistan. Apart from the FIA, other intelligence agencies are also questioning Riaz. They are also studying whether or not Riaz could be tried in Pakistan.

On the other hand, Malik also told journalists that the top leadership of the Taliban was not in Quetta. However, he added that if proof was provided about their presence in Balochistan, the government would definitely take action against them.

About the slain PPP chairperson, Malik disclosed that five attempts were made to assassinate Benazir Bhutto. And that they have sent questionnaires to the people who had been named by Ms Bhutto.

^^ Agree with you on this one 100%. Yar for god's sake people "Charity beings at HOME". Sort Pakistan out fist, then think about solving the world's ill's.

I think the main problem is that of confusion... we all know about the Caliphate and how we should aspire to bring about a proper Islamic sociopolitical order in our lands... but such actions as terrorism only hinders the efforts for the Caliphate... This noble call has been hijacked by the likes of Bin Laden as well as George Bush... What we should always explain to people is that the word Caliphate represents economic, social and political justice and has nothing to do with what we see in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Sudan, Pakistan or Taliban's Afghanistan...

It is unfortunate... even in our "tolerant" Pakistan (and yes we are very tolerant compared to some of these sickening regimes in the middle east and central asia)... The people who are trying to re establish Caliphate in the open and without resorting to any militant nonsense find themselves in trouble from the authorities all the time... Although I m personally not linked to any such groups but I have studied each and every one of them... Our very own Dr Israr used to talk about the Caliphate in Pakistan and even though I have personally many differences with some of the things he said, in essence what he has been saying all these years is correct... which is that for Muslims our reference and code of life should be Islam rather than Democracy/Monarchy/Theocracy/Nationalism/Socialism or Capitalism... similarly Zaid Hamid in recent years has attempted to present the Caliphate as an idea to consider seriously and has had quite a lot of success...

I think the military of Pakistan should actively encourage such discussions... Some of the intelligence reports that I have read suggest that America and Britain are aware of the plans to re establish the Caliphate and they are deeply opposed to such an idea... even though they allow groups which work for the Caliphate to operate in their countries like e.g Hizb Ut Tahrir...

Anyway the Caliphate is most certainly coming back... The maximum time it requires at this stage to become reality is five years now... (read my words... record the date and remind me in five years if it does not happen :))))

As for groups like above... for God sake what good will you achieve by useless bloodshed... its ridiculous and downright wrong!!!

Anyway... I m always interested in any discussion on the Caliphate... I want all readers to thank me for the following video I am posting here (seriously)... Its informative as well as fun to watch... and the relevance to the topic being that the Caliphate is a much higher and much nobler ideal than what the media or George Bush or Zawahiri would like us to think...

Two points about the Caliphate... Its a shift from US puppets as our leaders to those who imitate Abu Bakr, Umar, Usman and Ali RA... Secondly... Its a shift from Capitalism/Communism to Islam...

No Thankyou.

No it's not, did the OPEC help Iraq, did they help Afghanistan, do they boycott Israel to help Palestine? ... NO... So it's not coming back.

No offence but why would i want to thank you for that video. I have a book on the subject and it's revival is nothing but a wet dream.

1. So you want to stop discussions? That is wrong dear... I quoted the military in particular because the Army would be wrong to consider such discussion as a threat to Pakistan!!
2. I told you... Caliphate is a max five years away... You come back and tell me it did nt happen then ;)
3. We dont take inspiration from wet dreams... We take inspiration from our master Hazrat Muhammad saw who foretold that the Caliphate shall be re established once again on the method and mercy of the Prophethood... Unless you reject that, how can you not agree with me?

Do let me know the title of the book you have... I m an avid book collector would not want to miss a good title...

Do watch the video bro... Our differences aside, I will never hesitate to look at your viewpoints and discussion... At least consider the fact that you are talking to a Pakistani and not an enemy from India ;)

He also revealed that their group was planning to attack US military installations in California. And they had also gathered information about Israeli embassy from the Internet.

i dont know its became a norm or some thing, but what ever the motives of the alleged are, be it a establishing a caliphate, jihad or baking a cookie, they alway want to attack american millitary installations or israeli embassy.

Some one tell me how Caliphate can be established by attacking those?
Non sense

Anyway the Caliphate is most certainly coming back..

MBQ, Accoridng to our beliefs Caliphate will come back eventualy, but that will be the end result, after all the fightings with Dajjal, yajooj majooj etc under Imam Mehndi, then Hazrat Essa.

I dont see them both coming soon anywhere, and so the caliphate.

Caliphate will not be brought back with extreme organizations like these although it looks more likely by the day that Caliphate will soon be the only way forward for Muslims ..... There is another organized and legitimate movement working towards Caliphate for quite sometime ... check the following link Khilafah.com - Building a global movement for Khilafah ...

These morons will give Sharia such a bad name that muslims themselves will start being paranoid .

Dear JonAsad. Yes there is evidence of great turmoil and hardship for Muslims before the Caliphate comes back in the Hadith... but we are living thru those as we can all see... In Pakistan what greater hardship our dear brothers and sisters can face other than having a President like Zardari... and its the same for almost all Muslim countries... There is a total lack of sincere leadership... Be it Saddam, Qadhafi, Saudi or Jordanian Monarchy, Syrians, Turks, Sudan... Not one of them is a decent person (forget decent Muslim)... They have totally failed in safeguarding not just the interests of Muslims but their very lives and dignity...

So that point is agreed upon that there will be trouble for Muslims... and we can see this happening today... Its also common sense because a Caliphate is supposed to be like a guardian for Muslims where Muslims can seek protection and shelter against the enemies of Islam... those who want to bring trouble and harm for Muslims... Despite numerous problems with the Caliphates after the Rashideen, this basic role was fulfilled by all Caliphs (even though some of them were very cruel against their personal enemies)

As for the Imam Mahdi... The hadith that discuss pledge given to the Mahdi in Mecca (although it is not a sahih hadith but still quoted) state very clearly that one leader/caliph of Muslims will pass away and then Muslims will give pledge to Mahdi as their leader... This shows that the Caliphate shall come back before the Mahdi and Mahdi will be one of the best leaders for Muslims in that system... Just like the system of Dajjal has come upon us without the Dajjal coming out in person yet, similarly the system of Khilafat will come before the Mahdi... however it seems that these will come in very quick successions... as there are other Hadith which point out that before the Mahdi the Hajj will be performed without an Imam for Muslims and this is what we have been doing since 1924!!!

God has His plans... We can only make efforts and pray and be the best for all mankind... May God bless the nation of His beloved Muhammad saw with honor and rewards once again... Ameen

Wonderful idea! :hitwall:
This guy wanted to establish caliphate by attacking military installations. I am sure he will be able to establish it in jail now.

I mean what's wrong with us? Why always Pakistanis?

There is a time for every thing, and i think now is not the right time. We Muslims cannot even agree on one issue, how can we select a Imam?
Honeslty, We Muslims will be needing a lot more humiliation than we are facing today, to unite.
