Boeing F-15 fighter jets like these would be a large part of the reported arms deal.

The United States may be on the verge of its largest arms sale ever, a package of aircraft and weapons systems for Saudi Arabia that could total $60 billion when the final bill is done, according to a report in Monday’s Wall Street Journal.

If completed, the deal could also generate more than 75,000 jobs, the Journal reported.

The Obama administration is expected to notify Congress of the planned sale this week, according to the Journal report. Production would take place over five to 10 years, the Journal said.

Key components of the sale would be Boeing F-15 fighter jets – as many as 84 new ones and the refurbishment of 70 others – and helicopters including 70 Apaches, 72 Black Hawks and three dozen Little Birds.

Discussions are also under way over naval and missile defense systems for the Saudis, the Journal reported.

Meanwhile, Boeing is a contender in another F-15 sale, this time to South Korea.

The Korea Times reported Monday that the Pentagon has approved a Boeing request to market a stealth version of the F-15, dubbed the Silent Eagle, to Seoul.

The Times points out, however, that Lockheed-Martin’s F-35 Lightning and the Eurofighter Typhoon may be stronger contenders to win a South Korean order for 60 fighter jets.

what saudis will do with this arms?.who is their enemy?

They are decoys for parade....remember world 5th biggest airforce?

And these are amputed hardware at request of buddy Israel. The Saudis are only buying this to help ailing america economy and to providing missing funds for F35 development. Otherwise their throne will not see the light of next day.

Saudi's seem to be the silliest people on earth! Buying insane amounts of weapons and splurging money on diamond studded cars !

I mean look at Norway or Canada, they're extremely rich in natural resources but have excellent human capital as well.

60 billion is some money..

And F-15SE .. that too 154 , perhaps is something astonishing.

60 billion dollars...............

Saudi's have invested billions over the years adn if they had invested that money in indigenous projects 10 - 20 years ago they would have shown fruit today........

It is alot of money and abit like the Indian Russian PAK-FA project they would have been on a 5tyh generation fighter, as well as aircraft carriers and and entirely new Military face.............

They obviously have alot of money to blow..........

Bigger is better is the order of the day in Arab world. If you have a SUV but your father in law has a fleet of them then he is more masculine. Extravagance prevails in Arab society while little emphasis on saving for future. The Saudis needs to flex their muscle and show some pride for being world largest crude exporter. So whats more fun than Saudis mapping huge fleets of Euro Fighter and Silent Eagle on google earth??

I remember reading an article saying that Yemen was seeking stronger ties with Iran to counter KSA.

Yemen is a democratic country and can anyday seeks ties with USA and Israel. Yemen has better ties with USA and Turkey than the Saudis and they are also sick of saudi infested Alquaida menance.

The saudis fed the alquaida boogyman under deceptive politics of ummah to lash islamic countries into order of their influence by terrorism as well be able to retaliable in case of unfriendly attitude. WHo ever gave in to the game of saudis turned our to be a fool taken for a ride, Pakistan being the biggest one!

To invest in indegenious projects requires human capital and enough balls to resist uncle sam. The arabs lack both and they arent going to war any sooner. At best these are american fighters paid by saudi money to harass Iran. Recently saudis launched their own 4x4 which resembles very much to Toyota FJ cruiser. All the underpinnings are bolted on from other brands..and the name badge is made in china.
