Hi, I've removed that bit from my post. I did not mean don't build islamic unity. islam is real (the islamic beliefs are mythical in MY opinion, but islam is here, and real). My point is - don't rewrite history to claim there was some kind of islamic unity in the past, as that would mean basing ur future unity on a mythical past, and hence you will fail to understand the nusanses of nationality, ethnicity, race, language etc etc etc.
The arab empire was a military empire, so was the ottoman. and its possible to have an islamic empie in future too, but it will be dominated by one nation. otherwise unity at the spiritual level already exists, doesnt it?
