U.N. official's claim that 13% of Japanese girls engage in 'compensated dating' angers government | The Japan Times

The Foreign Ministry has protested remarks by a U.N. official who said 13 percent of schoolgirls in Japan are engaged in enjo kosai, or compensated dating, and called for the comment to be retracted.

The ministry lodged the protest with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights regarding comments by Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, special rapporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography, during her visit to Japan late last month.

The ministry said Monday that De Boer-Buquicchio’s remarks, made Oct. 26 at a news conference in Tokyo, have no objective basis and that it is “unacceptable” to use unreliable information.

Enjo kosai refers to young girls taking money to date older men.

The ministry quoted De Boer-Buquicchio as saying, “I’m referring in particular to this phenomena of enjo kosai, which is a trend amongst schoolgirls. Some 13 percent of the schoolgirls in Japan are involved in that kind of activity.”

The ministry said it has asked the U.N. office to disclose the basis for the “13 percent” claim, but De Boer-Buquicchio’s side has not clearly explained where the figure came from.

The U.N. is more becoming a clown in world politics and now in social issues . Anyone with average intel. could know this can not be true.

That's not surprising, considering how they reduced the Okinawan industry into one big "services" industry for the US military personal.

That's a major human rights issue that nobody has cared about for six decades. The Japanese government and business are co-conspirators with the US government. In this scheme, it is the women and children that suffer most: They are being victimized, abused and disempowered.

If the world community had a little dose of conscious left, it would have already placed the Japanese government and its criminal partner, the US, on the list of major human (women's) right violators.

Japanese nationalists must be enraged by this news, but not because it has been voiced by a high official at the world's supreme institution, but because such a disgusting phenomenon does exist.

In the meantime, they should no longer treat Okinawa as a distant outpost for US military.

oh please stop blaming others...how do you explain Hong Kong...

"HONG KONG: A man who murdered, then dismembered a teenage girl was convicted in her slaying yesterday and sentenced to life in prison. The High Court verdict was unanimous.
In passing sentence on Ting Kai-tai, 24, Justice Alan Wright described the man's crime as barbaric.
Ting met his victim, Wong Ka-mui, 16, through a compensated-dating website."

I'm sure most of the girls involved in this in Japan are hundreds of miles from Okinawa.

It says a compensated dating website. Was she the one running it?

Teen girls sell sex via the internet - The Standard

"Compensated dating started in Japan, where female students would provide men with companionship and sexual services in exchange for money or luxuries.

The practice is becoming more acceptable among Hong Kong teenage girls, said Jack Chiu Tak-choi of the Yang Memorial Methodist Social Services. "Some girls don't think compensated dating is a kind of prostitution," Chiu said. "They think it is different because they could choose their clients. Some even think they're helping others."

Social workers found girls priced their services on how they value themselves. The average "compensation" is HK$800. But for sexual intercourse the charge could be up to HK$1,800.

Chiu and his team interviewed six girls aged 15 to 18 with compensated dating experience from mid-2006 to early this year. The findings were released yesterday.

The girls are all estranged from their families. "They need caring and love from their families. A girl told me `when I do that [compensated dating], at least I get hugs from my clients,"' Chiu said.

Their clients ranged from teenage boys to married adults."

Tentacles of enjo kosai closing in on local schools

"Seventeen-year-old Cindy (name changed to protect identity) is a sweet and sparky school girl. She came bouncing into a fast food joint on a weekday evening and took a quick look around. She then hurried towards a table at the corner.

Cindy took out her student ID card and showed it to her client waiting for her. Before long, they slipped into an intense and intimate discussion and soon they left the place for 'pleasure'.

School girls in the city are lured by 'enjo kosai' to earn pocket money, according to a survey by the Yau Tsim Mong Integrated Center for Youth Development of Yang Memorial Methodist Social Service.

The Japanese term meaning "compensated dating" is often used as an euphemism for prostitution.

What's even more shocking is that there had been a surge in 'enjo kosai' via Internet among the city school girls.

Cindy said she gets HK$1,300 for sex service. While Cindy sells her flesh to pay for the tuition fees her family could not afford, more and more underage girls in Hong Kong are selling sex to earn pocket money and to cover tuition expenses."

Girls sell sex in Hong Kong to earn shopping money - CNN.com
"One 14-year-old girl told him she started compensated dating when she lost her cell phone. She said her parents wouldn't buy her a new one, so she thought she could earn some fast money with paid sex. She had her eye on an expensive cell phone. When the money from the first compensated date didn't cover the cost for the new phone, she went on a second paid date."

Young compensated dating girls in Shanghai | ChinaHush

"The first week of November 2011, Shanghai prosecutors disclosed a case which involved more than 20 middle/high school girls in compensated dating. In this case, most of the female students are under 18, the youngest is less than 14 years of age. This case caused public uproar which rippled through the entire country; however the topic of compensated dating still appeared to be ambiguous in Shanghai.

In the news on November 7, Motel 168 near Guangling Road became the headline picture. In the news 20 neotenous female high school students, in order to have more spending money, but also don’t want to earn it through work, went into the hotel chain and became prostitutes, two of them were under 14 years of age."

Hashimoto asks U.S. military to use sex industry in Japan - AJW by The Asahi Shimbun

That's a shame for a country that takes pride in its deep culture and strong social/communal ties.

As I said, such an industry and state of affairs would not be possible without the silent consent of the Japanese government, who is a major legal criminal partner of the US.

If Japan is to be a normal country as Mr. Abe seems to desire, it needs to look no further than Okinawa.

Facinating , UN report , was that a field experience report or general observation

Japanese government probably support such disgusting acts based on their violent reactions against UN. I advise parents going to japan as a tourist to not bring their children especially girls for their own safety.

Well, this google search image pretty much illustrate the problem:
