Interesting article in the german "Die Welt". Since i´m on a train ride i will translate it for you:D

"Western corporations leaving russia and the reason for this is the downfall of the ruble. But the sanctions must stay since they are the right answer for Putins agressive politics"

Maybe the dissolution of the Sovietunion and the fast change of former nations of the warsaw pact towards the NATO and EU has created a feeling of submission and emberrasment for many russians. But this is nothing compared to the situation today: The russian bear is on the floor and the once proud nation is gliding into the state bancruptcy.

This should be no reason for western nations to feel triumphant - the oppossite is true. The curret situation is dangerous. The downfall of russia can also hurt the west. The world needs a strong and confident russia. But this russia must also be ready to guarantee the basics of democracy and international law.

International corporations leave russia en mass now. This is rational behavior but also heats up the depression even more. Reason for the exodus is mostly the fall of the ruble. The russian central bank tries evrything to stop this downfall but had no chance, since the oil price is falling even more. Capital control mechanisms, the last weapon for economies who are in emergency care at the hospital come closer and closer.

But the russian economy is in decline since a long tome. Reason for this are structural weakness, lacking diversification, not enough export products, not enough productivity and the falling oil price. But it is also true that without the ukrainian crisis and the sanctions of the west there would be not such a dramatic development like we see now in russia.

The idea that you can make good business in russia falls dow each day more since the sanctions were imposed. Russian corporations and banks are basicly cut off from the world market but at the same time 120 billion $ leave the nation...its dramatic.

But the sanctions must stay. They are the right answer for Putins politics in Ukraine. They are an important signal of the free world. But they also show how much more powerful the west is compared to russia...and how small Putin really is.

The russian president has lost control over his economy and can´t influence its downfall. This will rise his will to solve this crisis peacefully within the next weeks.

The most important duty for the west is now to make it possible for Putin to leave his self created position of weaknes without losing his face.

But the target must be clear: To allow a souvereign ukraine and to change the russian agressive politics.

There is great hope that both will be achieved in 2015.

Its an over simplification. The trade wars launched against Russia, Iran & Venezuela and lowering of oil prices are all a part of this. This analysis is rubbish to put it mildly.

Of course its part of all of this. :) Venezuela and Iran are side battle fields. The main target is russia. Putin wanted to dance and now Putin lost control over the steps and starts to piss on himself.

I listened to his speech this week, hardly a man pissing over himself. LOL

Die Welt is a Springer Presse product. Before you become an employee of this company, you have to sign a contract that you are not allowed to write anything against the transatlantic alliance or against Israel.

Springer Presse is a core part of the NATO propaganda machinery.

his speech was a laughable prove for his weakness and failure. Admitting that russia is on the floor, saying he is working to make things better and blaming others for his bullshit. You are right, that was not pissing himself. His own shit dropped out his trousers. :D

Let's see how long Saudi Arabia can keep the oil prices down. At most they will be able to keep it down for a year.

The world needs a strong and confident russia.

Just out of curiosity, why (other than the obvious concern about powerful/nuclear weapons falling into questionable hands)?

How does it hurt the West if Russia becomes an inconsequential country like the rest of the Warsaw Pact?

The oil prices would shoot up higher than before even in the next few years, and it would indirectly benefit Russia again.

And there's no such thing as "west". It's just USA, with a few little bitches sucking up to their overlord. The weak states of western europe are a joke to the say the least, when it comes to military. Except for the UK and France, no European country has a significant military.

Most European nations dont need a significant military because there is no threat on our lands, Russia is not a threat because these are just games, the only real threat to Russia/Europe is Islamic extremists not ground forces. And if anything happened I cant imagine a country like Germany struggling to build a large world class army, its not like its never happened before.
