The Rising Tide, Pakistan's $5 Billion Software Industry

First you should learn to spell right..its Pentium..

Secondly, no Indian single handedly invented any of the above as chest-thumping Indians like to portray. They were just part of a much larger team filled with multinationals and even multi-geographic. Ajay Bhatt was the co-inventor of USB, together with a team, just like he also made his contributions to other peripherals like; PCI, AGP, and etc. This is to not to downplay his credentials as a highly valued inventor, but to set the chest thumping record straight.

How rude of me to make a spelling mistake, let me turn your kindness by correcting your grammar.

Now that we're done with sarcasm. Perhaps you'll point me to some Pakistanis who are the heads of departments, in the Silicon Valley, doing R&D into the future of IT.

Way to shit all over what could have been a very informative thread. Nice.

And people comparing Pakistan's IT industry with India should get banned from this thread at least. India is an established name in this industry. Pakistan is frankly not even in the same league. Period.

On topic, good news. Can anybody share some breakdown of this 5B USD figure? It would be very interesting to see which specific fields are we talking about here. If you were to count the Pakistan based companies HQ'ed in places like Dubai, SF or London etc this figure would be a higher.

Atiq Raza
Chairman & CEO, CALIENT Technologies Inc.

Atiq Raza is currently Chairman & CEO of CALIENT Technologies, a leading 3D MEMS Optical Circuit Switch Manufacturer. He also serves as Chairman of the Board at Validity, a biometric solutions company and Chairman of eASIC, a structured ASIC company. Atiq is also on the board of Seeo, a next generation Li-ion battery company and serves on the Stanford University School of Engineering Advisory Board.

Mr. Raza is an industry veteran and has been working in engineering leadership and senior management positions for the past thirty-two years. He was Chairman and CEO of NexGen, the first company to challenge Intel in microprocessors. At AMD, he laid the foundation of its processor business and brought the AMD-K6 and Athlon products to market and established the Opteron 64-bit instruction set architecture. Prior to NexGen, Atiq held various management positions at VLSI technology Incorporated, most notably the president of Technology Centers.

He has several degrees, including his Bachelor’s degree with honors in Physics from Punjab University, with a double bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with honors from the University of London, and his Master’s degree in Materials Science & Engineering from Stanford University.

5 Billion Dollars !!!!! Something is seriously wrong with this figure.
well, you have to counter services, local and exports everything...it definitively is 5 billion, if not more..
but for 20 core population this is peanuts

Flags should be Pak-US...

You're missing the point. Of my posts, just the vast percentage of Indians in the IT/Software/Hardware/ etc etc field outpaces Pakistanis. While you're busy stating 1 Pakistani IT is worth 10 Indian ITs, India has companies with revenues the size of Pakistan's entire IT industry.

And you're calling me the troll?

You're blatant disregard of anything Indian is disappointing and highlights the idiot Hina's comment that the Pakistani identity is linked with hatred of others.

You highlight a Pakistani? Good. It's nice to see. Now I dont have time to point out the hundreds of Indians since you're in the IT field and obviously you got time on your hands feel free to post the bios of them.

Saiyed Atiq Raza had founded NexGen, which was acquired by AMD in 1996. Raza was AMD's President and Chief Operating Officer in the late 1990s after the NexGen acquisition. He left AMD in 1999 and founded Raza Microelectronics, Inc. in 2002.[1] In 2003, SandCraft Inc folded, and Raza acquired the rights to its intellectual property. Behrooz Abdi became president and CEO in November 2007, and Raza Microelectronics changed its name to RMI Corporation in December 2007.[2] In January 2008 Raza settled with the US Securities and Exchange Commission over an allegation of insider trading during 2006.[1][3] RMI was not affiliated with Foundries Holdings, LLC, formerly known as Raza Foundries, Inc. In 2008, RMI merged with NetLogic Microsystems, which was acquired by Broadcom in 2012.

And your Atiq Raza hero lives in the US rather than investing in Pakistan.... or spreading his insight to what is necessary for the future to Pakistan's IT future.

Atiq has not future in Pakistan..he will most likely be kidnapped and killed by some terrorist goons..that the cold bitter fact..

By your definition even Americans and Europeans now outnumber Indians in their native IT industry so it must be that American are Dumb and Indians are smarter..its quality over quantity always..

TCS annual revenue : ~16-17 Billion Dollars
Cognizant Annual Revenue: ~ 13 Billion Dollars
Infosys Annual Revenue : ~ 9 to 10 billion Dollars
Wipro Annual Revenue : ~7 to 8 billion dollars
HCL annual revenue : :~6 billion dollars
Tech Mahindra: ~4 Billion dollars
L&T Infotech: ~ 1 billion dollars

Then there are dozens of companies worth a few hundred million dollars like Syntel, MphasiS, Genpact India,MindTree Ltd, iGate, KPIT, Zensar, Cyient, Hexaware, NIIT, Persistent Systems, Infinite Computer Solutions (India) ,Geometric, MASTEK etc .

When TCS annual revenue alone is more than 3 times Entire Pakistani It economy stupid comparisons from the beginning of the thread seems childish littered with personal anecdotes which are generally refugee of statements which cannot be backed up by facts.

Pakistani IT industry is Still in nascent phase and will grow with time without a doubt . Best of luck .

My point is to stop disregarding something of lesser quality just because it's Indian origin when compared to a Pakistani product...

Back in the 80s and 90s Indians flooded the American market and earned a place for themselves in Silicon Valley. Most jobs people have is through connections, i'm willing to wager that many Indians in Silicon Valley or up and down the Western Coast are there thanks to the previous generation. It's from the early pioneers that you got their contributions to technology you see now.

These Indians are now either returning to India bringing the culture of ingenuity and entrepreneurship to India or are the beachheads for further inclusions.

This is what Pakistan will need. For all the riches of China, they still rely on western architects to make 5 star hotels, and are behind due to the lack of innovation.
