Russia pushes for Su-35 in a bid to lure Bangladesh Air Force

KFX/IFX program has finalized its preliminary design with KFX 109 since mid 2018 and finished 70 % of its detail design September this year. Those two KFX design are the one with canard and the other without it that are reviewed during 2011-2013 period, in Desember 2013 KFX 103 has been choosen (two engine without canard). The photo that you bring is the old photo of KFX, final design (KFX 109) is bigger than F 35 and you can see the 100 % size mock up on the internet or on the thread that I made (Adex 2019)

This is the latest graphic and you can see KFX C 109 design size compared to other fighters

In fact, KF-X would get very embarrassed in South Korea, just like LCA to India.

F-35 that South Korea has got now already performes much better than the future semi-stealth KF-X. And F-35 is still keeping upgraded, and becoming cheaper and cheaper.

And for low-risk targets, F-15K also is the better choice, instead of KF-X.

But maybe KF-X is a good choice to Indonesia.

Very informative brother @Indos . So the C200 series will not be designed any further?

kinda useless for BD to have an airforce, it can ask for indai help any time against myanmur whichitself has a punny airforce..so some SAMs will do no need for expenisive airforve

Next thing will be you tell us to follow Indian practice on toilets. Astaghfirullah! You don't always need a knife. But when you do, it better be sharp! No time for sharpening in an emergency...

Well I'd rather keep an open mind about leap-frogging and encourage open thinking than to be limited to being a spineless force today's BAF is, in spite of our economic position. It may not be THAT absurd.

When you are an attractive target for domination and exploitation like we are, countries like India will make "Faida Uthana" moves, and we will have nothing to counter that with sans diplomacy. This is NOT a tenable situation.

Their agents (declared or undeclared) are sitting in Dhaka right now and dictating our foreign policy to SUIT THEIR NEEDS. Think about that without going all India-friendly. We can't allow this.

F-35 and F-22 flew and are in service for last 12 years. Most larger aviation oriented countries (who can afford it) are developing their 5th Gen. fighter (FGFA) program. The reason is simple - qualitative advantage of weaponry.

If we plan to get FGFA platforms in five or even ten more years (purchased since we don't even have Pakistan's capability, in spite of having a higher per capita GDP) we need to plan now.

Pakistan already is planning to manufacture (not assemble, nor purchase) an FGFA. Granted current conditions economically aren't favorable, but the plan is there. Surely we can at least have a plan to purchase?

Numbers.

Cost.

Current capability gap in personnel.

Things to keep in mind.

5th gen costs money.

And its not just an a specific platform but a whole system needed to effectively utilize the capabilities it brings.

This also takes time.

But, yes I agree a plan needs to be in place.

First, you gotta beef up the numbers with capable birds (4+) right now.

Also, keep an eye on how the USAF, IsAF, etc use their 5th with their 4th.

There is still a major role for 4th+.

BAF can go for the Su35
EF Typhoon i dont think the agreement is signed so easily and even though they are Tranch 1 that is old

unless we are looking for f16 blk 70 72 or F15 X :)

Honestly this is exactly the thougjt process the resson why BD not going for any despite ample resources
Also nothing is in pipeline either so dont exepect real progress till 2024

BD mig29 are not flying the f7 are barely flying and the training prog is non existent

It need a basic trainer an advance jet trainer and atleast 2 squadrons of advance jet..but progress is no where to be seen

Well Mig 29 are flying. The air chief was himself piloting one and landed in the old East Pakistan era airport in Dhaka last week.

F7 are flying as well, as can be seen in various YouTube videos, the airbase is adjacent to the main airport in Dhaka and the runway is also shared by military AF jets.

We need some advanced jets - that is accurate.

But there are plenty of subsonic trainers.

Bangladesh has bought 9 K-8W trainers (and 23 are being readied in China, see AF thread, images were posted last week) and it has 13 Yak 130's after some were lost in accidents.

Prior to this we had LET L-39 (Czech) jet trainers based in Chittagong.

I thought everyone knew this...

With due respect brother, you need to check the BAF thread here. Bangladesh's Migs are just back from overhaul and F 7s are flying perfectly fine. Lots of trainers of all kinds have been procured already. I am not sure where you have heard training program is non existent.

As to why BAF is so behind schedule in procurement, it is just baffling to us.

One word - India.

It is not in Bharti interest for Bangladesh to have a strong airforce. Navy has resisted this. But AF is facing some kind of pressure.

India has and will continue to object against any kind of Bangladeshi military buildup for it's own self interest.

That's the part of the environment we live in. If Navy was able to test c-802 against our neighbour's desires back in 2007, it is no way acceptable for BAF to use this element as an excuse.

I would think it is a combination of inept BAF leadership and planning, coupled with greed and corruption which severely limited our initial RFP to ensure only Russian jets were eligible. Which eventually led to Russia taking advantage of the situation and making unreasonable price quotes.

Had corruption not been a factor, We whould have moved away from Russia as a source a long ago and already had some Western jets in our inventory.

Well we dont know yet the faith of KFX but I am agree that KFX is some what a gambling for Korea and Indonesia, particularly after USA rejected to give 4 critical technologies (active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, infrared search and track system (IRST), electronic optics targeting pod and radio frequency jammer) to the program, we just dont know how good is Korean will be able to develop those 4 core technologies.

Despite that, this program is crucial for both countries aircraft industries in term of its capability to design and manufacture stealth fighter. We have to start somewhere. As we know China also started designing fighter jet with engine and other critical part gotten from Russia.

Correct, since we are now very close to produce KFX first prototype. InshaAllah the prototype is ready in the beginning of 2021 as plan.

Inept BAF leadership is the reason for its current position.... all other reasons are merely excuses citied to hide the fact.

I don't know why BAF is not looking at Gripen. Saab is willing to provide local production even for smaller orders. Gripen will provide almost the same weapons package as Eurofighter including Meteor so BAF will have reasonable air superiority against regional adversaries it is suppose to be cheaper to operate, quicker turnaround time and can take off from smaller runways. Bangladesh can use Saab's expertise to help develop network centric warfare capabilities. 36 of these will be good enough to replace your F7s. If BAF orders today it will be get last aircraft in mid to late 20s by that time more 5th gen planes will be on the market or closer to production so BAF will have a nice high low fleet.

Gripen with Global Eye and possibly Aster-15/30 combo will give BD air defense big boost and it will be easier to maintain too.

Russian aviation is on the way down.
Thats not what foreign govts see when they look at Russian airforce's performance in Syria. But yes, in terms of aerospace technology on paper, Russia isnt the most advanced.

Apart from Western, BD should only consider Chinese(J-10C) for fighter aircaft.
Hm....China that cant even field quality civilian aircraft yet? I just find it confusing that you are supporting purchasing CHinese fighter jet and saying no to Russian fighter jet. I dont believe China is currently making fighter jets as quality or/and advanced or/and reliable as Russian fighter jets.
