KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, personnel on Wednesday raided the central fire brigade office near the Civil Hospital Karachi, stayed there for more than an hour, went through some files and took along one of the employees, officials and sources said.

Though there was no word from the paramilitary force, sources at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and officials at the fire department confirmed the episode but insisted that it was not a raid but a “visit” by the paramilitary force that ended with the detention of at least one employee.

“Rangers soldiers in two vehicles entered the central fire office at around 10:15am,” said a fire official wishing not to be named. “They checked the record, talked with some firemen and senior officials and finally took along two men –– Abdul Waheed and Abdul Hafeez — after staying there for nearly two hours.”

He said after a while the paramilitary force released Abdul Waheed, but the department was not aware of the whereabouts of Abdul Hafeez. The official refused to share more details about the detained colleague, and did not disclose his association with any political or religious group.

“The high-ups are well aware of today’s event. The staff at the central fire office, however, is not sure about the reasons behind and motive for the raid. We are not aware of any particular charge Abdul Hafeez is facing,” he added.

The Rangers “visit” to local bodies and Sindh government offices came as continuation of its exercise in line with the ‘targeted operation’ against terrorism, extortion, kidnapping for ransom and killings.

However, Army Chief Raheel Sharif during his last month visit to Karachi had reiterated that the exercise would continue not only to eliminate “terrorism, criminal mafias and violence” but also “corruption”.

In June, the paramilitary force carried out a raid on the Sindh Building Control Authority over illegal construction and ‘china cutting’ –– illegal plotting of state land –– in the metropolis. The Pakistan Rangers also took the same initiative against alleged misappropriation in the Lines Area Development Project.

What if complete police department would be dismiss and replace by rangers then Pakistan can eliminate corruption anarchy people will be confident and these local crimes will dissappear soon

It is not possible, Pakistan Rangers are trained for border security not for Policing.

It's not just police, it's the whole system which is rotten. There is no way to take just one department from whole system and raise it's standards. After all, it has to be remain in rotten system. In this way, no matter how much money you spend, it will be back to it's low standards in just few weeks.
That's what they thought in Punjab, and Punjab Police is same old corrupt police, even after all the new measures.

KP doing good remaining in same system, its all about will. In Karachi the political recruitment in police and the killing spree of police officer in late 90s and early 2000s killed the moral of police which need to build once again

I am from border of Punjab and KP. KPK police was always better than rest. It's not just today that they are behaving better.
You haven't got my point. For instance, when courts say, "according to Criminal Procedure Code 1898...." .
Where was Pakistan in 1898. These are same old colonial laws and standards in each and every department.
No matter, how much you invest under this system, it won't be fruitful.

Ranger are not corrupt because they had no chance of corruption, while living in units. Now they are in direct contact with criminals and public. You will see the results and start hearing stories in few months.
