Raheel Sharif Vs Kayani: Difference in perception

Decisions made by Army wouldn't have been any different if Raheel and Kayani could have switched tenures. Kayani made the right decisions at his time and Raheel is doing the same. Some people here have made it personal due to either TTP issue or political reasons. Kayani took control under very difficult times when the political forces and also most of the people of pakistan were divided over how to deal with the issue of terrorism. Raheel came when consensus was almost there.

General sharif is an Infantry man, a real soldier. Soldiers generally see things in only black and white. No middle ground.
while Kyani was a ISI guy who believes in proxy games. These two have different attitudes, as a result we see paradigm shift in Pakistans Military strategy regarding Good or Bad taliban.

kiyani wanted to be absolutely sure before he decided anything, which leads to delays and eventually non-decisions.....
Shareef takes calculated risks......which sometimes can backfire, therefore hopefully he also has plan-b. he comes from a military family which has seen his elder brother give his life defending the country....Raheel will not compromise on this.

When Raheel came KPK was under PTI aka Taliban Khan party and in center N who is also blamed for supporting terrorists in Punjab.

Compare that to PPP who is staunch anti-terrorist party since day 1. ANP was against terrorists and they payed the price in last election. Raheel only needed under a year to get N, PTI and even JI in line. While Kayani only started operation when terrorists were literary marching towards Islamabad.

Pakistan have faced a lot worse then Karachi airport and Peshawar massacre over the last 7 years. Kayani was coward and looking for his own interests.

To compare the both general accurately we have to wait for Gen Raheel' s retirement as he has only spent 1 year in office.

@oye_natta

PPP left matters of foreign policy and national security to the establishment . . . . . .and for the rest of the affairs . . . . .well they did nothing, current state of Pakistan is the evidence for that. Its not about the government only . . . .to fight such a war there had to be consensus . . . . and the very concerned parties such as N-league, JI , JUI and PTI failed miserably to understand the threat to Pakistan and they kept the perception of good and bad talibans, and the general public was also of the same view. The loss incurred in the last year or so due to terrorism is not so much as compared to the past but it was only until now when it has been realized by the short-sighted one's that how crucial this war is to our security and that we must fight it at any cost. Attacks on kisa-hani bazar and on the church in peshawar were intense act of terrorism, even then IK , JI and others were not ready to accept that talibans did it . . . . that was the level of stupidity they held onto . . .. . NS kept a soft corner for these lunatics and kept trying for negotiations. Karachi airport attack and attack on military school in peshawar is what it took for this nation and the major parties to come under the same flag otherwise only a month back IK announced that he would have never sent army into the tribal areas and NS was doing shit . . . as there was still a distinction between talibans and other militant groups.

Pakistan should have fought this war many years ago that is during kayani's tenure but to tell the truth . . . it wasn't just possible, the ground realities were different, there was too much sympathy for these terrorists amongst the common people . . . . remember Lal masjid and Sufi Muhammad, the moral and the support required from the people was not available to the armed forces back then . .. .. . but it was only now . . . . hence Raheel Sharif responded very well.

Gen Kyani was good at playing proxy games, even the CIA guys were impressed. :D

"One senior C.I.A. official, recently retired, said that of all the foreign spymasters the C.I.A. had dealt with, General Kayani was the most formidable and may have earned the most respect at C.I.A. headquarters in Langley, Va. The soft-spoken general, he said, is a master manipulator."

proxies and manipulation help to a certain extent. It cant win you wars. Its clear from his career.

Hi,

Kiyani was a wrong choice to be the commander in chief of the military at this time---. It was due to his background as a spy master---. Spy masters should never be put into the position for leading an army during a time of war or otherwise---.

Their thought process and actions become different----a general from the infantry or the armor or special forces is the best candidate to lead---they are not concerned with the trivial of deceit that the spies thrive upon----

First thing is that Gen. Kayani was not corrupt, he was a thinker more then implementer. One thing he lacks during his course as CAOS was public support because he was less active as a leader to coordinate with peoples. But obviously he was a great person as well.
General Raheel Sharif is more of an implementer then thinker. He is a soldier by nature and by family also. The thing General Kayani lacked (Public Support) is the strength of Raheel Sharif. The nation is behind him and he is fulfilling their dreams also. May Allah Pak grant him health and more velour to fight for Islam and Pakistan. :pakistan:

There is no doubt about the patriotism of the both COAS.but comparing both in the same shoes might be injustice
X-COAS was DG ISI what meant he had a better relation with political parties. Which later was proofed by his extension of his service by X Prisident Asif ali zadari. Here i wont waste time by telling the reputation he has. As far as the decision taken i think COAS Raheel Sharif is much bold and courageous leader. History has proofed when every a COAS indulges himself in politics .He loses his professional ideas. which incase of X-COAS did

Without any doubt after zia kiyani was bigger corrupt did nothing for country and army just having lot of foreign tours free of cost and took his 10 percent from zardori

Gen. Kayani was known as 'Baji Kayani' in the army. :omghaha:

Our COAS Gen Raheel is doing a great job. All the major decisions have taken by him. From ZarbeAzb to Capital punishment, which means our PM is doing nothing but playing a role of a dummy... LOL

I think before taking major decision Gen Raheel thinks ten times about his blood line therefore brave n bold decisions are expected.
