I was reading about All -India Muslim league and was wondering about their contribution towards freedom from the british Rule. Was there any significant movement that they participated in against the british imperialism in the Indian sub-continent.

Which are the significant AIML leaders which actively participated non- violence movements like satyagraha, quit india movement, civil dis-obedience etc.

Were there any instances of british crack-down on AIML as they did on other pro-liberation parties in India.

All india muslim league was formed for betterment of indian muslims (muslims of subcontinent at that time). indian muslims were down & out at that time. so main aim of AIML was to please Britishers. till early 1940's AIML was just a low profile party which only gained momentum coz of pakistan movement later. AIML did contributed in formation of pakistan but AIML never actively contributed towards freedom of subcontinent. Many graet analyst of pakistan also believe in this concept.

So no AIML leader ever participated in any movements against the british?

no, AIML leaders never participated in any large scale movement against british. you can watch views of many pakistani analysts on youtube on this issue.

they liked the concept of angrez masters better than hindu masters

khilafat movement led by most of the leaders who belonged to AIML,
boycott of elections under 1919 act, congress participated indirectly,
idea of free muslim states, round table conference maulana Muhammad ali jauhar died their, why died u need to read the history,
Quaid-e-AZAM,s fourteen point under AIML...
fact is it was uncompromising attitude of congress that forced AIML to look for separate nationhood...
untill 1945 cabinet mission, AIML looked for compromise but based on respect and with credit of representing muslims of india , but congress refused.....
above all nehru report was a fly in the ointment of hindu muslim unity.....

Quaid-e-Azam was main asset of AIML, till 1934 AIML was nothing but after that it boomed under his leadership.
maulana azad has clearly mention these facts that uncompromising attitude of nehru and sardar patel was main cause of divide.... many more.......

it were congress ministries btw 1937 to 1939 that made AIML popular........

AIML was on forefront in every movement like that against simons commission ..... but i preferred muslims interests and wanted to keep muslims from agitational politics , specailly in early days because muslims had suffered alot at the hands of britishers and were on their hit list...............

The Khilafat movement (1919–1924) was a pan-Islamic, political campaign launched by Muslims in British India to influence the British government and to protect the Ottoman Empire during the aftermath of World War I. (I fail to see a drop of nationalistic sentiment in that from the beginning)

Now khalafat leaders although were muslims, they were not really from musl league, jinnah opposed the khilafat movement and so did the AIML

It is true that the support for the Khilafat movement was not provided by the muslim league. It is noted that many key muslim leaders did stand up to protect the caliphate in the khilafat movement but they were not representing the muslim league when they did this. The muslim League remained neutral and decided to stay out of this due to the following reasons:

The Muslim League realised that the issue of whether the Ottaman Empire remained intact was not an issue of religion anymore. It now had become an interantional issue where the caliphate(Ottaman Empire) had bin defeated in a war. The British were not the only power responsible for dealing out punishment and so the khilafat movement was seen to fail by the eyes of the Muslil League since the beginning

the reason why Congress decided to take part in the Khialfat movement was because tehy wanted to be seeen as the MUSLIM and HINDU representatives in India. They tried to take this oppurtunity to become the supporters of the Khiafat movement and used this as an excuse to start their Non-Cooperation movement which had the ultimate aim of attaining Indian Self Governance

The Muslim League and other leaders were not in favour of the Congress and when the congress joined up with the Khilafat movement for its own purposes the AIML and the leaders decided not to join the Khilafat Movement

Muhammad Ali Jinnah ended up resiging from the Crongress and that is the story

thankyou for reading :cheesy:

Britain was not defeated rather they retreated by their own will. Their goal was to divide rule and plunder resources and when this interest was met they decided to leave.

Muslim league was never threatened by British imperialists simply because they met their interests. Its funny how AIML leaders freely lived in England and they are glorified about them kicking goras out of Muslim's land.

this comment from a Pakistani? surprising

BTW if i am not wrong apart from Jinnah no other AIML leader is respected too much in Pakistan, am i right?

Iqbal supported Ataturk who abolished Khalifa with the help of British imperialists. AIML leaders were not neutral but supported the destruction of Khalifa which was replaced by a secular state where Islam would have nothing to do with the business of the state and Muslims lost many of their religious rights and on this issue our super man AIML leaders were shut on this matter.

Khilafat.. khilafat..
without understanding a bit of it..
just blind following..
HT brainwashing zindabad.

While FERHAN NIAZI FALCON and Btrizer have summed up the AIML position fairly, I request Btrizer to check to see if Jinnah resigned from the Congress due to Gandhi and the Congress supporting the Khilafat movement of the Ali Brothers against his dire warnings. You may be referring to the Friends of India society.

Sadly, I doubt that it was a joke. I will be hugely relieved to hear from the originator that it was.
