POF | Sniper Rifle

7.62 x 51 nato is more like a battle rifle - for long range shooting, Last time I went to Pasban range in Pindi, they had 2 x standard G-3 with scope mounted & bipod.
am not sure if they have added match grade barrel to that, if they have than that is a perfect DMR, thats why am asking @DESERT FIGHTER to confirm whether any internals have been modified. @Icarus - sir can you shed some light on the new G-3 with new butt and added rails?

I havent personally seen the rifle ... although some have been delivered to my fathers parent unit.. il post pics n specs when i get an opportunity ... (dnt want to go there n make myself look like a fanboy)...if you know what i mean.

Accuracy specs for PSR as provided on POF site (90mm at 300 yards) make it an ordinary rifle, not a "Precision Sniper rifle". PSR should able to consistently deliver 1 inch groups at 600 yards (this btw is my definition of a sniper rifle)

First off the rifle looks brilliant, In US the civilian version of the G3 rifle is sold as the PTR 91, where the PTR stands for precision target rifle... I have shot this rifle in the range and the inherent construction of the bolt on the G3 rifle is extremely robust, giving the rifle almost bolt action like precision. Although I havent fired this rifle farther than 300 yards the groups were more than enough to make me a ardent fan. I can only imagine what a delight it would be to shoot a G3 based precision rifle with a bull barrel and match trigger. I can stick my neck out and draw some flak to say that G3 actually beats a FAL!!!!

7.62 x 51Nato - The effective range for 7.62 x 51 is claimed to be 800+ yards, but realistically I have found the 7.62N to be extremely accurate at 400 yards and almost struggling at 600 yards with a 16x mil *** scope. In an experiment to shoot 800 yards out of the several rounds that we managed to get on paper most had one strikingly odd feature, some of the bullets would slice paper at random tumbling angles, suggesting extreme wobble at 800 and above ranges. The turkish milsurp rounds and australian milsurp ball ammo performed average, Russian milsurp 7.62N were crap and vanished in the trajectory, heavier match loads were slightly better with almost additional 4- 6 " of bullet drop. 7.62 x 51 still remains my most favorite round among all long range rounds and imo makes an excellent sniper rifle especially in Urban environment....

POF should probably look at maybe incorporating other cartridges in the system....

An acquaintance of mine has mentioned that POF maybe looking for the license production of MKEK - JNG-90 BORA.

@5:01 A Pakistani explains the contest it was engaged in and its performance.

Remember these G-3's are DMM rifles not actual 'Sniper rifles'.

puh -te -to Poh-tato ... DMM concept imo evolved from soviets, due to their squad formation of AK infantary, specialist RPK and DMM SVD config... to me anyone shooting under pressure at anything above 400 yards is a champ...all 30 cal round rifles are apparently DM rifles... but same 30 cal rounds like 7 x 57, 7.62N, 7.62 x 54R in a bolt action rifle become sniper rounds...

Also I feel the arrival of .338 and 50 cal rifles has kinda raised the range exceptions of people of whata sniper system should look like...

Have you read the above article i posted about, the acute shortage of highly trained snipers in Pakistan?

Army has set up a dedicated Sniper training facility - first of its kind. The need for more trained snipers was felt when a sniper shot this guy in the head, you might remember this event.

I did read the article and was surprised, Pakistan actually has a quite rich (enviable) rifleman tradition, unfortunately due to the prevailing situations I feel that culture is under dire threat. I was under the impression that cadres of armed services and law enforcement would turn into solid gold worth shooter given their exposure to traditional mausers which have run in the generations among pakistanis....

You were surprised and i was shocked. I have seen firsthand the precision shooting talent that exists amongst many of our civilians, using normal AK-74s and bulky G-3s. If Army, and law enforcement agencies provide schools for dedicated sniper training, send them over the US,Switzerland,China,Turkey for competitions - it will foster a great sniping tradition amongst the security apparatus. I have to say that i was disappointed to read that its an area they have ignored for such a long time. I am sure that if Army takes charge of dedicated sniper training, Pakistan is bound to become a learning destination for precision shooting in the future years to come.

This is a 'sharp shooting' course. Army does have substantial numbers of DMM and Sharp Shooters, they don't have many people who can be called 'The Snipers'. Its a whole different ballgame when it comes to sniper training. Army has set up a dedicated sniper training school recently, so are getting there.

Dude i wouldnt make an opinion based on a piece by some journo... if you have the the video.. u can easily judge tht even a regular cop or a commando for tht matter could have shot him down with an assault rifle of an SMG... Than we have interior ministers
"speech" where he says tht snipers were called in.. and it took them 30 minutes to reach the place... but due to the crowds n media insisting at covering the operation... it was being delayed etc.

Old prog "We are soldiers" talkin abt army snipers n their role.... watch from 2:16 onwards....they have been used since long.... and SFs are another league...:
