I think the guys who sent the email are smarter than you think them to be. Whoever planned it knew they could snoop unsecured network and go unnoticed. He was traced from his IP and they found that the Wifi was unsecured... nothing that hard to understand there...No leads at that end for sure.

ATS’ success in blast cases short-circuited

December 13, 2010 11:36:50 PM

Preetam Srivastava | Lucknow

Set up with the objective of busting modules and thwarting terror strikes, the much-hyped Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) seems to lack either the expertise to ascertain the nature of explosive and circuits of bombs in previous blasts or the will to reach a logical conclusion in the corresponding investigations.

In almost all cases in Uttar Pradesh, even those which were reportedly ‘worked out’ by making arrests, the circuit of devices has always remained a mystery.

In the Sheetal Ghat blast at Varanasi too, the million-dollar questions staring the face of the ATS team are on the technique used and the nature of explosives used by militants to trigger the blast.

Be it the Dashaswamedh Ghat blast in 2005, the one on the eve of Independence Day at Lucknow in 2000 or at Sheetla Ghat of Varanasi last Tuesday, the investigating ATS team never succeeded in exposing the nature of the circuit in the device. Despite claiming to bust the case and making arrests, sleuths could only disclose the conspirator and the executor but remained evasive on the architect of the bomb.

While the Dashaswamedh Ghat blast was initially passed on as a minor incident, the sleuths managed to net almost all militants involved in the serial blasts at Sankat Mochan and Cantonment Railway Station on March 7, 2007. However, there too, they were quiet on the technique used to detonate the device.

Similarly, in the blasts at Gorakhpur (May 22, 2007) and serial blasts at Lucknow, Varanasi, Faizabad courts (November 23, 2007), the ATS team while disclosing the carrier of the bomb and mastermind of the plan failed to explain as to who manufacture the deadly device. Besides, a blast which rocked a mosque in Jaunpur two years back, in which a timer was used to detonate the explosive remains to be worked yet.

In the attack on UP Cabinet Minister Nand Kumar ‘Nandi’ at Allahabad recently, the blast was triggered by the latest technique of a remote. The ATS claimed to have worked out the case by making several arrests but kept mum on the creator of the sinister device.

In Muzaffarnagar too, hardened criminal used a bomb with a novel circuit to trigger a blast during the recent Panchayat elections in Muzaffarnagar. While the culprits were netted, no one took the pains to find out about where the circuit was procured or who set it up.

Here’s how politicians come to terrorists’ aid

Suspected Varanasi blast plotter, Dr Shahnawaz Khan, was almost nabbed after the 2008 Batla House encounter; political influence helped him evade cop net

If only political pressure had kept itself away from the law, two-year-old Swastika Sharma would not have died in the Varanasi blast a couple of days ago. That’s because, Indian Mujahideen operative Dr Shahnawaz Khan, who the police suspect to have plotted the Varanasi blast, would have been nabbed almost two years ago.

In September 2008, the Crime Branch had busted a module of the Indian Mujahideen by arresting 21 of its operatives in connection with multiple blasts in Ahmedabad.

When the Batla House encounter took place in New Delhi on September 19, 2008, two of Khan’s associates were killed. At the time of the encounter, Khan and a few of his operatives were in Lucknow.

Fearing that the police were trailing him, Khan escaped to Sarai Mir village in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh where he holed up in a small house.

The police, who had got wind of his whereabouts, tried closing in on Khan and his associates. However, political interference ensured that this did not happen.

“The Batla House encounter was just in the news and the situation in Azamgarh was politically charged at the time,” sources in the Mumbai Crime Branch said. “Thanks to politicians from the Congress and Samajwadi Party, no police team was allowed to enter that part of Azamgarh.”

A police team was deployed, but the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force did not allow them to enter, the source said.

“In fact, their entry too was banned because, by then, the encounter in Delhi had assumed political proportions and politicians were streaming into the village.”

The officer said that the Crime Branch team camped there for 15 days, but had to return empty-handed. “Had he been caught then, neither the Delhi blast nor the one in Varanasi would have taken place,” the officer said.

Six months later, after matters cooled off, the terrorists fanned out to Dubai and Pakistan via Nepal. The Uttar Pradesh police have claimed that they strongly suspect Dr Khan’s module to be responsible for the Varanasi blast. To buttress their claim, the police said that Khan was in telephonic contact with certain people in Uttar Pradesh last month. They said that all these calls had been made from Dubai where Khan had fled.

What the police are now trying to ascertain is whether Khan had recently come to India or coordinated the blast from outside.

Meanwhile, tracking the terror email sent after the blast, the police have asked Google for all communication details of the Gmail account from which the mail was sent.

The police suspect that the boys recruited by Indian Mujahideen operative, Mohsin Chowdhary, had dashed off the mail.

“Chowdhary was the man behind the mail sent to media houses before the Ahmedabad blasts,” another Crime Branch officer said. “He has been absconding and seems to have inducted fresh recruits who are now doing the job for him.”

a nonsense thread opened by none other than ajtr... sorry dear pakistanis..my apologies...

But Pakistan can say it very well. No one can stop Pakistan. Dont talk about pressure as When you guys can stop the supply line of yankees then this is much much bigger issue.

It says may

Pakistan has said it very well but there are no takers and we all know very well that no one would intervene in this matter.

This particular problem has multiple dimensions, like Kayani said, we monitor all activities over areas of high concern and when we say something, we know what we are talking about.

Even if it says may, it is at least a confirmation of a long held belief.

Mole with ISI links busted

Crime Branch sleuths smoked out a spy suspected of involvement in Tuesday's Varanasi blast from his Byculla hide-out, traced calls to Karachi

A mole planted by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was busted when Crime Branch sleuths zeroed in on a businessman in South Mumbai on Thursday evening.

Police officials said Salim Mozawalla alias Javed Abdul Gafoor Mozawalla (28) had been under the scanner of Indian intelligence agencies for the past few weeks.

More so, some of his phone calls were traced to Pakistan after the Intelligence Bureau suspected that he was passing on important messages to ISI and kept his phone on surveillance.

One of his phone calls was traced to an undisclosed location in Karachi, and Indian intelligence officials heard him disclosing information about the Varanasi blast on Tuesday.

Following that, a team of crime branch officers then closed in on Mozawalla at his flat in Infinity Towers on Byculla's Love Lane around 11 pm on Thursday.

Several incriminating documents, mobile phones and SIM cards were seized during the raids that lasted until the wee hours of Friday morning. The mobiles have been sent for forensic examination.

Mozawalla has been booked under the provisions of the Official Secret Acts. He has also been booked for conspiring against the country.

Though a case was registered at Byculla police station four days back, the Criminal Intelligence Unit of the Crime Branch took over the case on Thursday evening.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy said he could not share details of the ongoing investigating for security reasons.

A team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) officers has joined hands with Mumbai's Crime Branch to hunt for Mozawalla's associates.

More members of the spy ring are expected to be arrested over the coming days, sources informed.

Intelligence sources informed that Mozawalla, like his predecessor David Headley, was assigned the task of carrying out a recce of the city.

Based on his inputs, several sleeper cells would be ordered to carry out blasts across the country.

Police are checking Mozawalla's travel documents to find out whether he visited Pakistan or other terror related countries.

A MiD DAY team, while running a background check on Mozawalla, found that he had made false claims of being attached to the Haj House near Crawford Market. Investigators are verifying the claim.

A trained spy?
Mozawalla had moved into his Infinity Towers apartment in Byculla (East) two years ago. A predominantly Muslim neighbourhood tucked between Byculla and Mazgaon, he never let anyone get a whiff of what he was up to, intelligence sources said. After the news of his arrest spread in the enclave, his neoghbours were shocked, they said. Sources say that this is the hallmark of a trained spy.

There is greater effort going on to cover up this case by pinning the whole blame on ISI/PA.So people dont question GOI's non action on local indian elements responsible for this attack.Same thing happened in 26/11 trial when court set free two other indian operatives who went to trial along with kasab and whole blame was pinned on kasab and party/ISI/PA/Pakistan.GOI for some reason wants to hide from world's eyes the discontentment among oppressed indian population.Same discontentment then come out in the form of bomb blasts anger from same indian population.
