Pakistan has approved Russia's request to use the strategic Gwadar Port for its exports, signalling a new alignment in bilateral relations after decades' of sour ties during the Cold War era. Following Iran and Turkmenistan, Russia has also decided to use the Gwadar Port for trade to have an access to warm waters, a top Pakistani official privy to the development was quoted as saying by Geo News.

"On top of it, Russia also wants to join the USD 46 billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor to reap the maximum dividends. In addition, Russia aspires to develop strategic defence ties with Pakistan," the daily said.

Pakistan decided to broaden its foreign policy options after its relations with the US deteriorated following secret CIA raid in Abbottabad that killed al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in May 2011.

Its relations with the US were soured recently when US lawmakers blocked funds for the sale of eight Lockheed Martin Corporation’s F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan. Pakistan is eager to improve its ties with Russia to diversify its defence purchase options in the event of any stalemate in ties with Washington, experts say.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is on a two-day visit to Turkmenistan, said that he welcomed the Russia's interest in becoming part of the CPEC and maintained that Pakistan would welcome participation of any country in the gigantic project. He told journalists that many countries wanted to join CPEC as half of the world would benefit from the project.

China and Pakistan are building the nearly 3,000-km-long economic corridor linking Gwadar port on the Arabian Sea with Muslim-majority Xinjiang province to improve connectivity between the two countries.

The move would open up a new and cheaper cargo route for transporting oil to China as well as export of Chinese goods to the Middle East and Africa. Sharif also announced building railways, road and fiber-optic along with Turkmenistan-Pakistan-Afghanistan-India (TAPI) 1,680-kilometer-long gas pipeline to enhance connectivity between South Asia and Central Asia.

He said that TAPI would supply 400 billion cubic feet gas to the three member states in which Pakistan’s share would be three hundred billion feet of gas. Sharif said TAPI, which is the largest gas project in the region, would help meet the gas demand in Pakistan. In the Turkmen capital, Sharif announced today Pakistan's decision to join the Ashgabat Agreement and the Lapis Lazuli Corridor.

The Ashgabat agreement is a transport agreement between Oman, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and seeks to create an international transport and transit corridor. The Lapis Lazuli Corridor seeks to foster transit and trade cooperation between Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey by reducing barriers facing transit trade.

Yes more or less, there are many many more good thing to come specially for Pakistan which will be a hub of this economic activity. Now pressure for real and practical peace will be soon on Indian to leave aggressive behavior by the regional countries even Russia. Hopefully may be new Indian government be courage-full to accept the benefits of CPEC for the people of Indian and join.

Russia had also plans to invest heavily in Pakistan. intial amount is above 5 billion dollars which will increase.
expectations were Pakistan gdp to be 800 billion dollars but after russia, germany and britain joining we can go past 1 Trillian dollar before 2030.

Aggressive behavior is not been adopted by Republic of India but its other way around, even the Government of Afghanistan has clearly pointed out who are making trouble in the region.

Offcourse India is the only trouble maker in the region. Promoting TTP, terrorist in the region, in Pakistan and also in Afghanistan.

Also, correct you map. Kashmir is a disputed area not part of India. Just showing on the manipulated map does not make Jammu & Kashmir part of India. Your government also accepted this area as disputed after so called fake SIR-JI-KAL Strike drama.

Then start caring because the mood of the Indian and Afghanistan Establishment is clearly visible along its citizens.

Afghanistan ?? They better worry about their citizens coming back from Pakistan and Taliban making gains

India ?? What India is going to do. Kill more of its soldiers ?? Create more unrest in Kashmir. Thats the only thing they have achieved.

indians here are out of words after their only trusted ally "Russia" start siding with Pakistan .
.
.
They are frustrated . trying hard to make a point .dil behlaney do yarr bniya ko bhi :D

Government of "Afghanistan" is not respected government in the region India is an exemption because of investment of India and number of consulates along with Pakistani border are not there good for nothing. One don't have to be a analyst to understand Indian government designs after "MODI" and "AJIT DOVAL" clearly statements regarding what they think about Pakistan. Indian roll is consistent influence on neighboring countries is not a hidden secrete. The serving Indian navy RAW agent "kulbhushan yadav" network arrested from Baluchistan is a little example. India is quite clear on intention. All of this un-ignoreable well documented hard facts.

Pakistan do have border dispute with Afghanistan which is Durrand line and Afghans are fighting for it even before the creation of Pakistan but Afghans are having no dispute with Republic of India what so ever.

Princely state of Jammu and kashmir become part of Indian Union.

Carefully read the history

Pakistan approves Russia's request to use strategic Gwadar Port..

the title itself tells the whole story...

its nothing economic , but just and just militrey...

Senior researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Science Academy in Moscow, Dr Natalia Zamaraeva read out a paper in which she shared her research on the prospects and challenges of CPEC which she considers a “game-changer for the region”.

“CPEC, in my opinion, is the second phase of the new concept of the Silk Road. Signed in March 2015, China made a concrete proposal to Islamabad on interfacing the development strategy of the two countries,” she said.

Encompassing the field of railways, highways, steel, automotive, electricity, engineering, high technology, and environmental projects, “China is willing to assist in implementing several priority infrastructure projects in a bid to establish a long-term, stable partnership.”

According to estimates of Pakistani experts which Dr Zamaraeva shared, “its implementation will contribute to the country’s GDP by three per cent”.

In response to a question regarding security threats the project faces, she said that Pakistan would try to avoid any sort of global engagement that might put a strain on the project. “One such example is when Pakistan decided not to send its troops to Yemen.”

She also lauded the efforts of the organisers to encourage different perspectives on the topic, and added that in the “Russian federation too, we have similar heated discussions on the topic of CPEC.
