Lockheed's F-16 Is Likely Forerunner For India's Next Fighter Jet Order

indigenous does not mean shit crapped INEFFICIENT sarakari factories.
Well most indigenously designed and developed products are actually good and if you take LCA, it is HAL who screwed it, not DRDO or ADA. The outcomes of Su-30MKI are also crappy when it is assembled by HAL. My point is instead of diversifying and inducting various platforms, it is better to induct 1-2 more squadrons of Rafales and partner Dassault in the development of Kaveri GTX engine along with Tejas Mk-1A & Mk-2. Just to counter China, BJP is cozying up with USA and inducting any American fighter only comes with a lot of strings attached and we may end up like Pakistan denying aircrafts and spares during the time of need and Gripen brings nothing new to the table what LCA doesn't have. Collaborating with a foreign entity and developing it's combat capabilities, combat radius & range, avionics and subsystems would make it a potent aircraft and privatize its assembly line instead of giving it to HAL so that production rate could be improved as well as quality.

there will be long term partnership with Dassault but its effect on Tejas is not clear. also using a different engine for Tejas MK1 or 2 will delay the program further.

we have immediate requirement planes to replace Mig 21 and 27. Also we are 8 Squadron short of idea 42 Sqd. all this can not be left for tejas and rafale will be too expensive. so we need Single Engine Planes either F16 or Gripen.

We need to make up 20 more new fighters squadrons

2 sq from Su30
2 rafale
2+4 Tejas so far on order.

These will take some 2024 except Su30. Critical situation. Only 60-70% are operational at any given time.

This single engine deal is most important. 200 F16 s could be a great addition than gripin. Gripin NG is atleast 2 years away from full operational even with Swedish airforce. F16 cut the tag for us.

F16 I say

I'll be surprised if India chooses F-16s instead of Gripen....If that happens, It will be purely on commercial grounds.
It will be purely a political decision, ibthink the new hunt is only a drama played by bjp govt to induct f16.

the final tally for IAF by 2025 is

rafale 36+18 for IAF and 18+18 of IN

63 Upgraded Mig29

52 Upgraded M2K

126 Upgraded to D-3 Jaguars

126 Uggraded Bisons

20(MK1)+80+40 (MK1A) LCA Tejas

90-126 "on order" F-16 Blk70/72

in short F-16 aave h aave

It is clear that IAF is not ready to make Tejas its backbone. India will have not more than 2 squadrons of Tejas. Until Tejas Mk1, it is clear that Tejas will not be mass produced to replace its aging fleet,

Who did claim such thing in India by anyone. LCA Tejas and its MK-1 SOP 18 would fill the lower tier of the IAF fleet. And what makes someone think that F-16 would be the Indian next fighter Jet -- Let me guess who takes the paid article of the media too seriously.

On topic

1. What is the cost of the F-16 Block 70/72 flyaway and the operational cost ?
2. Who have said that the F-16 are needed to replace the MIG-21 for their respective roles ?
3. Why did India opted for the Mig-29, mirrage 2000 H, and Jaguar fleets to get upgraded at so high price ?
4. Why would IAF want to add a US plane, which would need the US new equipments, and weaponary.

So is Tejas now officially dead ?

Why ??

Is their any official statement. On the contatory MK-1 have got 120 order, trainer order is awaited, and MK-2 for naval operation have been fully supported by the Indian Navy and development is on.

LOL, Claining big things without any substantial backups.

Mess up occur due to the irregularity of the budget allocation due to various reasons, and the very fact that ADA should only be the entity to develop the plane and the technology and the all the work related to the FOC should be handed to the HAL, which have better experience in this matter.

No F-16 is gonna come to IAF, and for IN there is no Naval variants. So chill, and don't take the paid media article too seriously. No one in India, neither IAF nor RM is looking for the Rafale replacement and even if such exercise is undertaken than F-18 sh is better candidate.

Now look at the news and the articles which is now been created after Indian is now issued the RFI tender, and it does not means that LCA Tejas won't be the contendor to those RFI, and this is a normal procedure. LCA MK-2 for IAF could be the contendor for the new RFI which is been asked, with various reasons which is indegenous product, second its MK-1 already got the order of 120 units, and the cost which should not be more than 40 MIL a piece, and there is nothing -- Whether JAS Grippen, nor F-16 which is so cheap with AESA MMR, internal IRST, onboard RWR, LWR, MAWS at such low cost. So let the people make the hue cry, the reality is that its the LCA Tejas new avtaar aka MK-2 for IAF which is gonna been selected in the end.

Effecteively it will kill TEJAS

My question is Why would it effectively kill LCA Tejas Simple.

F16 Blk70/72 is offerred to us to us at 100 million fly away cost same as Grippen E but can carry almost twice as weapons load and fuel in a single sortie as grippen E and has almost thrice as powerfull radar and EW+ECM+Jammar suites and has the 3rd gen JHMDS and the best AIR to AIR and AIR to ground missile and PGM pakage thaan any one else at the price (100+20+30 million overall cost)

Effecteively it will kill TEJAS
no you are wrong tejas is for point defnce/inland air defnce this F16 Blk70/72 is for forward air defnce and strike and overall air defnce role

Tejas was menat to replace all all single fighter, or not ?
no it was to replace on Mig 21 in point defnce/in land air defnce only

AM 120 IS ABOUT 70KM I guess. They have serious disadvantages against Russian and Chinese long range missiles. But they relay on Stealth so 70/80km range is well enough. Not the case for F15/f16.

Bull shit. The Range depends on the Speed of the fighter jet platform, the Altitude, and the path of the missile approach, and since no BVR takes the straight approach the range doesn't matter much. Rather its the seeker qty and the range to identify and lock the target, and the qty of the Fuse which makes the BVR dangerous.

Tejas was menat to replace all all single fighter, or not ?

LCA Tejas was the product of the Indian Quest to develop the technologies to develop the Fighter plane of its own and lower the technological gaps which India lags. Its the technology which was developed with the LCA and is quiete prominent in each fighter plane of the IAF inventory with its software based UHF radio, the Operational Data link, the Turbo fan development, and various upgrades such as Jaguar Darin, and MIG-27 UPG.

If the Plane for the development in India to replacement of the MIG-21 was the target than India could hire the Dassault to design a plane, which HAL could mass produced and would have replaced it too long, but India took the more longer and difficult path for the development of the capabilities to make herself true self sufficient. Yes its true that their are many grey areas, but some how India have to start from some where and this is just what the LCA means.

It is true that the earlier idea was to develop a medicore fighter plane which would be single engine jet which would replace the MIG-21, but with the change of the conditions and the technologies, India have to change the plans, thus gone for the MIG-21 BISON upgrade to equip the 3 gen MIG-21 with the BVRAAM and MIG-27 UPG upgrade. In the present secenario and conditions, the IAF have to change from the role based fighter plane concept to Multirole fighter plane concept.

either the Gripen E/F or Falcon 70 would make sense.

thinking Gripen E/F would be the favorite

-low cost and maintainability
-can operate from short runways and roads
-swashbuckler radar+Meteor=unmatched BVR combat

but then the Falcon 70

-much better range
-better growth potential
-more diverse weapon selection
-potential upgrade to F-35 in the future
-troll Pakistan with better F-16 and weapons

The requirement is for the lower end, example you cannot equiped the whole USAF with the F-22 Raptor.

Rafale F3R is their for that Role, and for the Multirole role, IAF already have MIG-29 UPG, Mirrage 2000 UPG, and the SU-30 MKI upgrade plan for Super Sukhoi upgrade, bringing the limited Multirole capability. So what for adding another fighter jet and that too US one, whose weaponary would not share with any other fighter jet in IAF.
