Section of Indian media reports is claiming that Government of India will soon announce the successor of Kaveri engine program by the end of this year . The proposed new engine will be used to power LCA-Tejas MK-1A in next three years, Government is also likely to clear fresh investment of Rs 2,600 crore to develop the successor engine which will still incorporate many of the technologies already developed for Kaveri engine, to shorten its development time .
It is not clear if French Rafale offset offer to help India develop turbofan engine with 90kN thrust class will be accepted by Indian defence ministry but after reviewing and holding discussions with all stakeholders Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar is likely to take call said a well-informed source close to idrw .
Kaveri engine was delinked from LCA-Tejas program a few years back and last year Kaveri engine program was officially closed but a year ago, idrw had highlighted in a report that GTRE, in fact, had issued a new tender asking reputed Indian private / public sector industries / organisations for manufacturing and assembly of 80 kN thrust class engine consisting about 20000 number of components and parts.
Kaveri engine is twin spool turbofan engine with Max thrust with afterburner of 81kN (8260kg) . The engine incorporates flat rated characteristics to pre-empt and manage thrust drop due to high ambient intake temperature and dusty weather conditions usually found in India.

// If its M88 based a max of 110Kn will be possible but reduction in life might be the side effect. All in all M88 core is better than the current one but if Snecma helps develop our own core instead of using the M88 its max trust might just be rated higher than the M88 core and can be dual application for AMAC as well as for France's 6th Gen planes.

What is about it?
France is going to skip Fifth Gen. altogether and will develop 6th gen fighters.
They are learning and developing stealth tech in projects like Dassault neuron etc.

why are you wasting money on it ...... by that time you gonna have fgfa mate ....... claimed by many Indians

pakfa more likely and Tejas has a different role also AMAC angle.

Tejas has a different role also AMAC angle
yeah ............... the unnecessary things you can do when you have money ........ perhaps we'll best wait and watch ..... its not like kaveri project is much older .... i mean if india can stick to tejas for so long they are gonna stick to this for much long

Does it mean bye bye Kaveri?

Fifth gen is to take out initial SEAD missions, after that precision bombing of semi-vital targets can be done by even Mig-27s. Tejas is not a front line aircraft, and never will be.

Does it mean bye bye Kaveri?

Further development of Kaveri with French help on the core.

Dassault neuron
funny you mentioned it ....... i think that is the future ....... plus i dont think it is like an air supriority aircraft ..... more like bomber ...... but ..... who knows what is gonna happen

now thats called war readiness ...... all left now is an actual 5th gen aircraft

Actually future might be manned aircraft escorted with drones for protection, etc controlled from the said aircraft with a low lag local wireless connection using variable encryption

UCAV :enjoy:

now thats called war readiness ......
India even now fully capable for threats its neighbours can pose but as in future new threats will emerge , new and more sophisticated aircraft will be required.:victory1:

Does it mean bye bye Kaveri?
Technology & experience from kaveri will be utilised but as engine requirements may change so will be the engine.

never believe idrw

We are patient bunch of people, not that we are going to war tomorrow. Our available assets are well capable to meet any emerging threats
same here sir same here

nothing can be said about future mate ..... i mean we are still not done with 5th gen yet

new threats will emerge
like what Kraken from Indian Ocean or UFOs from skies ........ threats are going to be same ...... its Indian Global ambition which will need more sophisticated aircrafts

Me being a network engineer cant think of any other viable way of using armed UCAV's. Right now I am part of a team upgrading the Indian military network because of deficiencies in wireless security and network overall.

Just imagine a UCAV armed with a dirty bomb being piloted by someone in the US only to have suddenly have their control overtaken by some security loop in the encryption. Earlier American UCAV had very bad encryption or non at all, spoofing towers and signals is easy as pie all you need is the proper ghost software in one of the routers to overtake the whole network or send phantom signals from any where around the world.

So controlling the UCAV short distance with a manned plane seems like a better alternative
