JF-17 Block-3 -- Updates, News & Discussion

The air chief just said they haven’t finalised the radar yet

And will finalise it soon

After that B3 will fly next year

Well it was meant to fly in 2017 then 2018 and then 2019 and now 2020

This project is at least 2 years late if not 3

Something needs to change and fast

Pick the bloody radar and fly the thing

Such delays are natural when technologies required are in their early days. Chinese have just entered in the era of modern aviation, still need time to develop expertise on certain systems like engines etc. BTW, 2-3 years delay in military aviation is nothing bad.

fabricated news.last three block 2 expected to be delivered next month and not block 3.
yea

it doesnt make sense

It seems to be the reason for the delay
otherwise it will be still a block 2

Hi,

Thank you for the post---.

The changeover could also mean to update and upgrade Kamra facilities as well---get the staff ready for the new project---by preparing them for what is coming---.
DO you know what actually determined the block 3? what improvements or changes made defined the next block?

because I dont. looks like most of the listed items are wish list of fanboys

apart from two below
Helmet mounted display confirmed
control stick on side confirmed

I have aye and nay for each component or feature of the jet below

conformal fuel tanks
reduced weight via more composites?
New radar
AESA / non AESA radar
more loading capacity
New engine
structural changes
more payload
new avionics
incorporation of PL 15

i heard that jf-17 block 3 will definitely use aesa radar.i am not sure about pl-15.can we integrate pl-15 or pl-12d on jf-17? i don't understand why we want to integrate pl-15.i want pl-12d,same ramjet technology as meteor.

I believe Aesa has been mentioned many times by officials, as for the other things yes they are can hou theories

PAF can't make a choice between the two AESA radars, and that is the reason of delay.

KLJ-7A radar is the downscale version of the one used by J-20.

I guess KLJ7A will be selected for the block-III but LKJ86 for upgraded block I & II.

Downscaled or downgraded? and in terns of what? Number of TR modules, size? etc

Yeah the Blk III is likely to be in sqdrn service next year. It’s not a new plane ( like Thunder B is ) so the testing phase is not as long.

composite repair is pain any composite is at least 24 to 48 aircraft cannot fly for 48 hr

Sources are confirming that
there is no physical difference between Block II & Block III
minor changes occurs

i can confirm aesa and pl-15 add the above two and thats about the size of it

The nose of J-20 is much bigger than that of JF-17.
not just the nose but the power generation capacity too

You will see first jft block 3 on 23 march 2020 .
Production will start in 2019 and until end of 2020 paf probably have 8 + jft block 3 .

There is a reason for secrecy . Even in paf only few know exactly the progress , capability , performance , avionics and other systems used on jft .
What i heard from someone frm PAF that Jft block 3 surpass all current PAF and IAF inventory . And this is very much true in terms of capability shown during trials and tests .
Nope. Not Block 52+s
