Iran says it will soon test fire its own domestically built S300 missile system, reacting to Russia's refusal to honor its sale of the defensive anti-air system to the country.

Brig. Gen. Mohammad Hassan Mansourian, a deputy commander at Khatam al-Anbiya Anti-Aircraft Artillery Base, announced the news on Wednesday.

“We had plans to purchase the S300 from Russia as part of our agenda to meet some of our security needs, but under pressure from US and Israel, [Russia] refrained from delivering the defense system to our country under the pretext of the UN Security Council Resolution 1929,” Mansourian told IRNA.

“[Missile defense] systems similar to S300 are undergoing test firing and field modification while other long-range systems are also being designed and developed.”

The military official noted that in case of a serious aerial attack, only 20 percent of the threat goes to high altitudes, 50 percent to medium and 30 percent to low heights.

He said the country's aerial defense would soon be equipped with a new generation of Mersad and Shahin missiles.

Mansourian said the latest version of Shahin missiles has a noticeable mobility and its solid fuel enables it to hit targets with a low and small base.

The medium-range missile integrates advantages of other defensive weapons.

On the ground-based Mersad missiles, he described the system as a reliable weapon at medium range and height.

Mansourian highlighted the combination of guiding devices installed on Mersad missiles and described them as a good replacement for the older Hawk missiles.

Bold initiative by Iran, best of luck to them.

may be a part of s 300 is already transferred.
other wise it would take plenty of years to test

here s300 was not tranfered to iran and there s300 iranian version is ready , quite shocking man!!, how is that possible, if thats the case first iran should have built n tested its local version before ordering them... sounds crazy to me

Good luck to Iran engineers with that. It ain't easy. I hope the system is somewhat capable in the end.

Iran is said to have bought SA-22 Greyhound missiles from Syria which Russia denies but could well be possible given this latest development.

I dont understand the point 's300 version' .... It can be a SAM but what does the S 300 Tag mean ?

Good luck Iran and good job give em all hell lolz.

I think Iran knew for a long time that they would not get the S300. A few years ago the Iranians hinted at building their own version of the S300 and maybe the Iranians were already develloping an S300 version.

wow iran truely is a great country, it has not even bought / sold the s300 system and it will produce it own . if such was the case why the hell in first place did it want to buy the said system.

It is very hard to produce a good copie of S300 system that is as good as the Russian version. I think that Iran has bought the S300 technology from Russia in a secret deal between them or some rogue elements in Russia sold the technology for a lot of cash.

A few months ago a Russian blogger put photo's on the internet of S300 systems that were left unguarded on some deserted Russian bases. He walked for hours on these deserted bases and made photo's of the S300 systems. If it's for a blogger that easy to walk on these bases than for rogue elements it is a piece a cake to steal weapons or technology and sell them to highest bidder.

I really doubt they can build S300 equivalent, not even close. They have no choice to build themselves.

Domestically produce S300?

But when did they purchased s-300

It should be like domestically producing LR sams
