Iran successfully produce a new generation of the globally known version of F14

An Iranian Air Force commander announced here on Tuesday that the country overhauls and optimizes different types of military aircraft, mentioning that Air Force has even installed Iran-made radar systems on the sophisticated F14 fighter jets.

"Indeed, it can be said that most airplanes have the previous designs but all of their components, including systems and parts, are being optimized and upgraded on a continued and regular basis," Iranian Air Force Lieutenant Commander for Coordination General Aziz Nasirzadeh said in an interview with FNA on Tuesday.

The commander stated that mounting optimized home-made 2,000-pound (900-kilogram) smart bombs, Qassed (Messenger), on Iranian bombers is an instance of the country's capability to upgrade its fighter jets.

The Iranian Army's Air Force announced in September that it has successfully test-fired Qassed (Messenger) 1and 2, in aerial drills over the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

Referring to the promotion of the systems and capabilities of F14 fighter jets, Nasirzadeh said, "…today we have a new generation of F14 fighters at our service, and its radar system has been upgraded by our local experts."

Reiterating that the new radar system has been built and installed on the F14 fighter jets by the Iranian personnel, the General added, "Therefore, we can enhance and upgrade it (radar) continuously.

The commander also pointed out that his forces have even upgraded the jet engines of F14, and said considering the numerous alterations that Iran has made to the radar system and the engines of F14, it can be said that what Iranian Air Force now has is a new generation of the globally known version of F14.

He further announced that Iran has already started a move to manufacture aircraft engines and has achieved acceptable results in this regard.

Iran has recently made good progress in the air industry and succeeded in gaining the technical know-how for producing stealth aircraft and drones.

In September 2009, Iran displayed the first squadron of Saeqeh (Thunderbolt) fighter jets produced by its defense industries in an air show staged during military parades at the beginning of the Week of Sacred Defense, marking Iranians' sacrifices during the 8 years of Iraqi imposed war on Iran in 1980s.

Upgraded CH-47C Chinook of Iran

Amazing to the see the pristine CH-47C Chinooks operating by the dozens. The RH-53Ds in azure naval displaced camouflage pattern of the IRIN (Islamic Republic of Iran Navy) were captured from the US in the failed "Eagle Claw" operation in April 1980 at Tabas.

Five of these USMC helicopters and many other items were incorporated in the Iranian navy. With the additional 250 gallon drop tanks and ECM mounted on the nose, it looks like Iranian aeronautaical engineers have done wonders in upgrading these machines. The engines on both the Chinooks and Rh-53D appear to be the new light weight alloy along with new HESA bullet resistant plexi-glass wind screens. The integrated communication helmets on the crews appear to be Iranian made ones too.

Iran manufactures F-14 engine and parts

Iranian engineers have recently managed to manufacture a mini jet engine through reverse engineering that was demonstrated in the Kish Airshow 2005 which is in progress in Kish, said the project manager, Mohammad Reza Saeedi.

The engine which is technically so complicated was entitled “Tolu’ 4” (Sunrise 4) by the Iranian manufacturer affiliated to the Iran Plane Manufacturing Co.

A more developed version of “Tolu’ 4” is under study, Saeedi added citing that Iran has demonstrated that it would be able to achieve self-efficiency in manufacturing complicated turbine engines too.

Local helicopters

Nearly 30 Iranian engineers of Iran Helicopter Support and Renewal Co. (PANHA) have a plan under final stages of study to design a local helicopter. The plan will be enforced as soon as it obtains official confirmation, said an official of the company, Fereydoun Qarib. He forecasted that the design process of the project will be implemented by next year.PANHA used to actively repair and overhaul most of the country’s fleet of helicopters during the Iraqi war against Iran (1980-1988). PANHA demonstrated its latest achievements in the Kish Airshow 2005.

Self-efficiency in making drone planes

Iran does not need anymore to import drone reconnaissance planes since it has reached self-efficiency in manufacturing such planes, said the marketing and sales manager of the Qods Air Industries Co. affiliated to the Ministry of Defense.

The plane is entitled “Mohajer 2” and is able to fly by 11,000 feet height with a speed of 200 km/hr. It is able to send live images while flying as far as 50 km away from the base, Reyhani added.

The earth station of the plane is installed on a vehicle and is able to receive and store the images and the conversations of the flight team.

Another plane that is manufactured by the Iranian experts called “Saeqeh 2” (Lightening) is a target plane. The drone target plane has a maximum speed range of 250 km and is able to fly as high as 11,000 feed for 90 minutes, he concluded.

Production of F14 engine parts

Holding F14 aircrafts in its air fleet, Iran has been the second country after the U.S. owning such aircrafts but it has not been able to repair or manufacture their engines locally. However, recently, Iran has been able to produce the spare parts of the F14 aircrafts’ engines, said the project manager for manufacturing spare parts for airplanes’ engines of the Iran Air Co.

Any pics or videos?! That's impossible guys. Impossible. They can copy F-5 with a second tail but not one of the most capable, sophisticated and advanced aircraft in the world. It was retired mostly because of it's very expensive maintenance, and spare parts.

Impossible? Scientifically we're more advanced than most Euro nations. They can only achieve things by cooperating with each other and by inviting multi-national corporations. Our only problem is a lack of funds. If we had a top notch economy, we would be producing top of the line hardware. This is one reason I want a change in the regime's thinking (a complete cutting off of relationship with all arab countries and moving towards the West and Central Asia).

In any case here are your pictures. F14 parts being replaced. Notice the simulator and cockpit pics and how they're different then the original F-14s.

They look exactly the same as the original one, they are just repairing it. Look, you don't understand, manufacturing such an advanced radar or an engine took decades from nations like USA, Russia and especially China which still use Russian engines for their aircrafts. Iran can't magically in somehow manufacture a 5th aircraft alone in a couple of years. And what the hell do you mean by "Scientifically we're more advanced than most Euro nations"?!

These F-14 would be no match for the F-22, F-35, F-18, F-16 and F-15 and other fighters that Israel or USA would unleash if they were ever to go to war with Iran.

F-14 is comparable to F-15 and Su-27 in terms of roles, payload, weight and radar, off course the old versions. But as for now, and in these poor conditions, they are no match to Western or neighbor 4.5 Gen counterparts.

Iranian air force is obsolete , and as far as the Tomcats are concerned , they won't even be able to take the Electronic attack from Growlers and Prowlers.

obsolete against who? Afghan drug lords and PKK guerrillas? The difference between banana republics and real countries are their foresight, independence and strategies. Iran will never be able to compete with the like of the US, nobody in the region can. With limited funds and a need for deterrents, that means airforce will have to take a back seat. However it doesn't mean it should be scrapped and it will have a great role to play against dangers like the PKK, Afghan drug lords and generally neighboring countries without a top notch military. Iran spends more money on its navy, missile forces (that includes anti ship missiles), nuclear sector etc... Who cares how many F16s you have when you don't have a strong vision and strategy to defend your nation against external and internal threats. If warfare was this easy, than Somalia would be a super power. We see today that Pakistan is at war with its own provinces and American drones are flying over the country. Having newer fighter jets will never take the place of a strong vision and strategy.

When the resources are limited (especially under sanctions), its wise to use them the most efficiently. Its vastly cheaper and faster to produce SAMs to hit modern fighters than to create modern fighter yourself.
