Iran: Purchase of Russian Su-30 fighters on agenda

Why Su-30? Why not Su-35S???

I think its primarily because of cost. Iran wants something that can be used as both an air-to-air fighter and and strike aircraft. The Su-30, with its twin seats means that it is better equipped for attacking ground targets. The pilot can focus on flying, and the man behind him can man all the targeting equipment and weapons. Buying a multirole aircraft like the Su-30 means we don't need to buy a bomber and a fighter, because it can do both. On top of that, each Su-30 is actually cheaper than an Su-35.

Furthermore, Iran is looking to have Transfer Of Technology (TOT) and/or local production. Russia isn't going to offer any of those on the Su-35, which is currently their most potent operational fighter.

Which variant of Su-30?

The Su-30SM, which is derived from India's export version, the Su-30MKI.

Oh, stop being so pessimistic.

Any thought on how many and when the delivery would be complete?

Also how reliable would this deal be, can we be sure that the Russians would be willing to go with the deal?

Westernophil representatives linked to Rouhani ... Their advertisements for Hillary's presidential was so vasted than CNN
its against Iran Constitution no matter if they are westernophile or easternophile .

We are trying to buy Su-30s, soheil is just skeptical.
I'm sure we are not trying to buy those airplanes , Soheil is just realistic on this matter.

well I'm sure no f-16 pilot have trouble attacking ground target , in short the airplane do its flight while pilot do the targeting ground

for God's sake how many time I must say it it was at the time of mr. Khatami that Parliament banned military from buying anymore airplane and told them to build their own fighters if they want anything new.

so if army going to get any new airplane it would be something designed here , you guys think why they are so hard trying to make engines , why they designed arc furnace why they are so hard trying to develop small things that seems useless and insignificant but when put together thy are necessary for designing airplanes.

Russia likely has different standards and methods to USAF and its F-16s. If I will remind you, even the technologically advanced US uses twin-seat F-15E Strike Eagle for attacking ground targets.

Iran backtracks on Russian fighter purchase reports: news agencies

Iran's Defense Ministry said it plans to modernize the air force fleet but denied reports earlier on Saturday that it wanted to buy Russian Sukhoi Su-30 fighter planes, news agencies reported.

Several agencies quoted Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan as saying "the purchase of this fighter is on the agenda of the Defense Ministry" when asked about the Sukhoi aircraft, but some later said the ministry had called the reports "incorrect."

The ministry's website quoted Dehghan as saying only that "reinforcing and providing the needs of the air force are among the priorities of the Defense Ministry," without referring to any specific purchase plans.

Earlier this year, Dehghan said Tehran and Moscow had started talks on the supply of the Sukhoi fighters to Iran.

A deal would need the approval of the United Nations Security Council and could further strain Moscow's relations with Israel, Saudi Arabia and the United States.

In August, Tehran allowed Russian planes to use a base in Western Iran in their strikes in support of the Syrian government which Moscow and Tehran both support. The unprecedented deployment was criticized by the United States and some Iranian lawmakers.

Asked about any plans to let the Russian air force use the base, Dehghan said: "If necessary, Iran will once again allow Russian jets to fly from Hamedan's Nojeh air base," Tasnim news agency reported.

Dehghan decline to comment on a Russian report that Russia and Iran were in talks over arms deals worth $10 billion.

"On this matter, you'll have to ask the Russians," said Dehghan, according to the semi-official Mehr news agency.

F-15 was their Air Superiority fighter and designed 50 years ago they began to design it in 1968
The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle is an American twin-engine, all-weather tactical fighter aircraft designed by McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) to gain and maintain air supremacy in aerial combat. Following reviews of proposals, the United States Air Force selected McDonnell Douglas' design in 1967 to meet the service's need for a dedicated air superiority fighter.
their newer designs are f-22 and f-35 which are single seat , even Russia newer design are single sit SU-33, SU-35, SU-27 are single seat

The Su-33 and Su-35 are just developments on the Su-27. The Su-33 is a naval fighter, the Su-35 the dedicated air to air fighter, and the Su-30 is the multirole fighter.

Sir, just a slight correction. The SU-35 is not just a naval fighter. It "can" be used for this role, just like it can be used as an interceptor, ground support, interdiction, etc. Thanks

be logical!
no sukhoi 30 will deliver , until we complete this

just like the story of s300 . when we made bavar 373

This is the concept for shafagh? Irans budget is to small to design a proper jet quickly. Could take many years.

Oh, stop being so pessimistic.

Sadly he has very good reason to be,russias history of deal breaking and reneging on contracts is common knowledge, and if that wasnt bad enough those cretinous fools[traitors?] rouhani and zarif allowed the arms embargo to remain in place for another 5 years fu#king unbelievable!

well Sukhoi PAK-FA is single seat Mig-29k is single seat
designed by Sukhoi for the PAK FA programme. The aircraft is a stealthy, single-seat, twin-engine jet fighter, and will be the first operational aircraft in Russian service to use stealth technology. It is a multirole fighter designed for air superiority and attack roles. The fighter is planned to have supercruise, stealth, supermaneuverability, and advanced avionics to overcome the prior generation of fighter aircraft as well as ground and maritime defences.
Eurofighter is single seat also Chengdu J-20, Shenyang J-31

They could let it remain for the next 30 years or next 5 years it's your choice.

Wha..??,actually it was rouhani and zarifs choice to do this not mine.
What they should have done was had the arms embargo lifted as part of the nuclear deal but rouhani and zarif couldnt seem to care less about acquiring very badly needed new weapons, instead they seem more concerned with buying western airliners than badly needed modern fighters.
