Iran, China at odds in disputed islands row following Xi visit to Saudi Arabia

People keep talking about SCO and BRICS. As if we were starving before lol.

LOL you are talking as if the US will give you Major non-NATO ally (MNNA) status.

Pakistan is the only nation in the world which is a member of SCO and also has Major non-NATO ally (MNNA) status.

Lol, the mentality of an spoiled kid.

We don't need USSA to solve our own problems. And please stop quoting me.

China should be a builder of peace in the Middle East, a promoter of development in the Middle East, a booster of industrialization in the Middle East, a supporter of stability in the Middle East, and a cooperative partner with a blend of people's hearts and minds in the Middle East. China's policies and measures towards the Middle East are based on the merits of the matter itself and the fundamental interests of the people of the Middle East. China is not looking for an agent in the Middle East, but is promoting peace and talks; Instead of establishing a sphere of influence, we should encourage everyone to join the "the Belt and Road" circle of friends; It does not seek to fill the "vacuum", but to weave a network of mutually beneficial and win-win partners.
China firmly supports the Middle East peace process and supports the establishment of a State of Palestine enjoying full sovereignty on the basis of the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital. We understand the legitimate aspirations of Palestine to integrate into the international community as a state. We are in favor of putting in place a new mechanism to promote peace on the Middle East question and support efforts made by the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation toward this end. To improve Palestinian people’s well-being
to the Middle East and Iran issues, China remains neutral, supports regional peace, and does not seek proxies. With regard to disputed territories, China has long expressed its views in the United Nations General Assembly, and now just repeats its previous views. This is not to interfere in Iran's internal affairs.Does Iran support China's territorial integrity, including disputed territory between China and India?

We should support Taiwan independence in retaliation....
China is selling ballistic missiles to Arabs , we can consider to sell cheap anti access weapon to Taiwan as well

Arab countries were the ones who made US dollars as global reserve currency, if China wants to replace it with Yuan it also needs approval from Arab countries without which they can't achieve it. Hence nothing surprising.

Oh yeah, what is your position on the land and island disputes between China and India, China and Japan for example ? Iran doesnt support China's legitimate claims on these matters right, but sit on neutral. The same is with your dispute with UAE, China is neutral, whats wrong ? China is not a tool of you that it has to take your position entirely, that is unreasonable for you to demand of China. If you want to be a puppet of the US and EU, and if you havent had enough of it as in the Shah period, that is your choice, you are not a puppet of China in any way as some of you people like to claim, its just cooperations between the two countries.

As for Taiwan, they have their own supersonic missiles and the rest they can get it from US, I dont think they need your weapons. And I suggest you dont try on Taiwan, otherwise there will be no cooperations between Iran and China including military tech, and there will be other serious consequences. Stay rational and reasonable.

Iran’s foreign ministry on December 10 took the rare move of summoning China’s ambassador to Tehran after Beijing issued a joint statement with Arab states that controversially dealt with the matter of three long-disputed islands in the Strait of Hormuz.

Though there was clear anger in Tehran at the move, Iran’s leadership was obviously taking pains not to upset China with its response to the statement—instead of announcing that it was “summoning” the Chinese envoy, the Iranian foreign ministry said the ambassador “had a visit” with a foreign ministry official, during which Tehran’s “strong dissatisfaction” was conveyed.

The controversy blew up as Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Iran’s arch-rival Saudi Arabia on December 9. He also met leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Tehran was observing the visit like a hawk as Iran and Saudi Arabia are competitors when it comes to the provision of huge volumes of crude oil to Beijing.

The bone of contention unearthed by the Chinese-Arab joint statement is the ownership of the islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa, governed by Iran since 1971 but claimed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It was in 1971 that the then-shah of Iran dispatched the Iranian royal navy to the three islands after the British withdrew their armed forces from territories that are today the UAE. Iran has ever since rejected statements from Emirati leaders that the islands belong to the UAE. The inhabitants of the islands are all Persian-speaking Arabs who use the Bandari dialect of Persian, which is infused with Arabic words and syntax.

Xi and the GCC leaders signed a statement that urged “bilateral negotiations in accordance with the rules of international law, and to resolve this issue [over the sovereignty of the islands] in accordance with international legitimacy”. In signing the statement, China crossed a red line in Iran’s eyes as Tehran’s standpoint remains that it will not countenance any talks on the islands.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian asserted in a tweet that the islands were “inseparable parts of Iran’s pure soil”. But he ran into social media criticism for not naming China in his observations and for only writing in Farsi, whereas in the past he has tweeted both in Farsi and in Chinese in support of China’s territorial integrity.

China and Iran last year signed a 25-year cooperation agreement last year, seen as a roadmap to potentially massive investments worth hundreds of billions of dollars. Progress on realising any of the investments, however, is slow.

They issued a joint statement, which contained several clauses that directly dealt with Iranian affairs, its nuclear programme, and its regional activities.

The statement signed by Xi and his GCC counterparts also referred to ensuring the peaceful and civilian nature of the Iranian nuclear programme and called on Tehran to fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). On December 11, Saudi Arabia’s top diplomat remarked that “all bets are off” if Iran “gets an operational nuclear weapon”.

China and the GCC member states also in the statement referred to the need for dialogue on Iran’s “destabilising regional activities” and “support for terrorist and sectarian groups and illegal armed organisations”.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani registered “surprise” at how the statement included the Iran-related clauses.

Xi’s visit was partly arranged for the first China-Arab States Summit and the China-GCC Summit.

During his stay in Saudi Arabia, Xi also held bilateral meetings with nearly 20 Arab leaders.

As anger grew in Iran over the outcome of Xi’s visit, Iranian newspapers hit out at China. Ham-Mihan headlined an article, “China’s Turnaround on Iran”.

The daily Aftab was no less scathing about the Chinese. It published images of protesters in China, asking "Did the Chinese government hear the voice of the protesters?"

Reformist Etemad on December 11 asked, “What is China’s plan for the Middle East?”

Later on December 11, Iran’s National Security Committee said “China's interference in Iran's internal affairs conflicts with good international cooperation.”

China’s government-controlled Global Times on December 12 declared that Xi’s visit to Saudi Arabia opened a new chapter of relations between the Arabs and the Chinese.

Chinese media were generally very upbeat about the new relations between the GCC and Beijing, predicting the Arabs and Chinese would boost their cooperation in multiple fields over the next few months and years.
I always knew the CCP were secret Sunnis.

Well , we didn't go to India and Japan and repeat their claims as statement .... That's the definition of nuetualy ...

About weapon, I said 'cheap' weapon ... For sure Taiwan will broke economically in case of full blown war with cummonist party , but cheap easy to use weapon will increase the cost of invading them ...

Given Taiwan's close relation with the US,I don't think Taiwanese gov has the guts to have any kind of connection with Iran.

Chinese Vice Premier Hu Chunhua is visiting Iran right now. China hasn’t sold old out Iran. China, Russia and Iran are in the fight against Western imperialism together.

China desperately need to strike at the heart of the American empire. That is through weakening the petrodollar.

Arabs aren’t going to give up the petrodollar without China giving them many things.

Weakening the American petrodollar will help Iran.

To our Iranian friends, please look at the big picture. There is no animosity between the two great civilisations.

So let’s calm down.

Threaten with what? He is there to increase cooperation with Iran. There is a bigger game being played here. The Americans are the target.
