India to Test Fire Indo-Israeli LR-SAM/Barak-8 on-board INS Kolkata in 2015

Only 32 barak 8 cells?
It simply does not make sense ,when considering Delhi class (6200 ton) carry 32 barak 1 and 48 shtil 1 and Kolkata is a 7500 ton ship with same number of antiship missiles.
I strongly suspect this ship will carry barak 1 as point defence. The CBI enquiry was going on and the future was uncertain so no cells were allocatedin construction
The last order for 260 barak 1 cleared last December will eventually end up part of this ship.
@Penguin can explain why the reloading thing is bull shit.

I know for a fact it is 100% true, I've heard this personally from a highly reliable friend of mine who knows about these things within the IN (no, he is not in the IN).

64 BARAK-8 is a reality. Things will be different (for the better) on the P-15B however.

Can you please explain a little bit about this auto loader thing? And how it gonna work during combat and saturation attack?

I don't have specific details but I shall see if I can get some more information on the system in the next couple of days bro.

The launcher is made by L&T and it can never be a secret till now.
And what about these pictures

No, we should not think about cost in the destroyers, they need a punch, and Barak-8 is best. So, all the VLS should be accommodated with Barak-8, no Barak-1 in destroyers.

Could you please clarify the main Missions of Destroyers,Frigates and corvette ???

There are 32 VL cells visible. There is no below deck reloading device (defeats the whole point of having a VLS in the forst place). There could be spare rounds carried on board, but there are no organic means to reload them into the VLUs. Besides, moving missiles that are 6 or so meters in length around on a ship while at sea is ... tricky (to say the least). Which leaves off-board spare rounds: while it is possible to unrep missiles from one ship to another, it doesn't solve the problem of having no way of loading them vertically into VLUs. Cranes on a replenisher can only do this while tied up side by side i.e. in port. Reloads is simply BS.

I think the 64 is a combination of both Barak 1 and Barak 8.

Well as per old definition during IInd world war

A) Corvette : - Mainly used for Air defence role

B) Frigates :- Mainly used for Anti -Sub purpose ( main System) , and has no Air defence System and Anti-Ship system.

3) Destroyers : Primary Role anti -ship, can be anti-sub,and air-defence.....

Aug 14/14: INS Kolkata. Media reports indicate that India’s new 7,500t air defense destroyer INS Kolkata, which is set to be commissioned on Aug 16/14, will be armed with Barak-1 missiles until the Barak-8s arrive. The article doesn’t explain whether the vertical launchers are compatible, or whether the Barak-1 has been integrated yet with the IAI Elta MF-STAR active array radar that equips the new destroyer class. With respect to the Barak-8s:
“The missile is ready, but [DRDO’s] boosters to propel the missile [upon launch]… have failed.”
Hence the importance of the forthcoming tests, if DRDO can get its rocket boosters to Israel (q.v. Aug 11/14). Meanwhile, India is likely to have 3 Kolkata Class destroyers ready to go by the time they’re done testing the Indian LR-SAM. They’ll need to do something in the interim. India & Israel’s Barak-8 SAM Development Project(s)

Stealth destroyer INS Kolkata, the largest warship built in India, will fire a long-range surface-to-air missile (LR-SAM) for the first time in 2015.
“The vertical launch units of the LR-SAM, also called Barak 8, have been built into the vessel and the MF-STAR [multifunction surveillance and threat alert radar] is in place for missile guidance. All you need to do is take delivery of the missile, load it and fire. It is slated to take place next year,” Captain Tarun Sobti, Commanding Officer of INS Kolkata, told The Hindu during an exclusive tour of the ship.
The ship, commissioned in August in Mumbai, has just finished its maiden work-up here, during which the vessel and its crew were put through their paces by the Flag Officer Sea Training. The ship will carry 32 SAMs, with an enhanced range of up to 70 km, for missile defence.
The first flight of the LR-SAM, jointly developed by the Israeli Aerospace Industry and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), took place in Israel in November.
An operational firing of the vertical BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, against surface targets, would be carried out early next year, Capt. Sobti said. The vessel fired BrahMos during the sea-acceptance trials off Karwar in June.
He said the vessel had an indigenous content of about 70 per cent. The work-up laid emphasis on, and perfected, the standard operating procedures, safety routines and tactical skills. “It’s a special training where procedures are perfected, the crew put together and safety drills performed to a fault,” he said.
The vessel, sporting a stealth design and displacing 7,500 tonnes, demonstrated strength, manoeuvrability and survivability and provided crew comfort. robust anti-submarine warfare capability was achieved with depth chargers, heavy-weight torpedoes, rockets and a bow-mounted sonar, the HUMSA-NG, developed by the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory, a DRDO lab.
