China Overtakes US in Manufacturing
Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

The shift in economic and political power eastward rolls on. On Yahoo's Tech Ticker, Aaron Task and Henry Bloget discuss the shift (video below). Here's an excerpt:

Ending a 110-year run for America as the world's dominant producer, China has overtaken the United States as the world's largest manufacturer. According to economics research firm IHS Global Insight, China manufactured 19.9% of the world's goods in 2010, while the U.S. accounted for 19.4%."

Hey but india has the money to buy Eurofighter or Rafale so of course india is the real superpower in Asia. And the West is willing to sell india advanced weapons so india's superpower future is doubly sealed.

India reminds me of the former USSR, just in a worse version. The former USSR had a weak industrial base for consumer goods but a strong military industry. That was a huge mistake as they spent too little to develop their civilian industry, which would have given their military industry a sound foundation. Instead, they have spent too much on military and too little for their citizens.

Now we have India, which has a weak civilian industry as well as a weak military industry. Even worse, they are spending huge amounts of money to import weapons while millions of their citizens are starving and lacking fundamental needs.

And then india will join the ranks of great powers like US, EU, Russia and (maybe) Japan.

Thank you for your heart felt wishes.

can be denied easily,haha

Chinese to buy nearly half of world's luxury goods in 2020:
HONG KONG--Chinese customers are set to account for nearly half the world market in luxury goods and travel by 2020, a report by a Hong Kong-based investment group said Wednesday.

CLSA Asia Pacific Markets predicts China's share of global sales in luxury goods and travel would rise from 15 percent today to 44 percent in 2020, amounting to 74 billion euros spending a year.

In a 140-page report titled “Dipped in Gold: Luxury Lifestyles in China,” CLSA says that, with annual growth of 23 percent, China will soon be the world's biggest domestic market for luxury goods.

“Luxury goods companies are expanding rapidly to accommodate demand that will account for half of their forecasted global growth in the next 10 years,” a summary of the report said.

“Louis Vuitton's biggest customers are already Chinese buyers,” the summary said. Including the territories of Hong Kong and Macau, the area “represents 28 percent of sales for Swatch, 22 percent for Richemont, 18 percent for Gucci, 14 percent for Bulgari and 11 percent for Hermes.”

The rapid growth in luxury spending would be driven partly by the fact that Chinese millionaires are on average 15 years younger than their overseas counterparts, the release said.

“Secondly, success, wealth and fame/social standing are highly regarded in Chinese culture and displaying this through watches, jewelry, apparel, cars and wine garner respect,” it said.

The report said foreign luxury brands with large logos and signature collections were particularly desirable for Chinese buyers.

“Spending amongst female consumers in China is increasing and luxury handbags are gaining increasing popularity,” the summary said.“This will be positive for foreign brands such as Gucci, Hermes, Louis Vuitton and Prada.”

The rapid growth of the Chinese car market could mean it would account for half of new car sales worldwide by 2020.

World's biggest car market set to become gigantic - with new-car boom predicted to reach 40 million sales by 2020.

China could account for half of the world’s new-car market by the end of the decade, according to industry experts.

The world’s most populous country already boasts the biggest car market globally, but its gap to second-placed North America is expected to widen dramatically by 2020.

China achieved a global record new-car sales figure of 18.06 million units in 2010, and the country’s manufacturers and officials are predicting the country will reach 40 million by 2020.

Do you India guys also want to deny that China is the ASEN,EU,Africa..'s biggest trading parnter and India's economy is only a fraction of China's,and your foreign reserve is not as much as Taiwan's??

I think it is nonsense to even compare India to China. India needs at least 100 years to come any where near China.
India is roughly where China was in the early 80's, but with much more corruption and less social cohesion (because india is more ethnically and religiously diverse).

the gap is huge but still it wont take that long, but people should know China wont stay put and wait here.
