India needs a relationship of equals; the US will not offer that

Sorry, we're not interested in being your lackey, you already have Britain for that i believe.

No..but no problem remaining the USSR's lackey for 4 decades?

Everyone saw to where that led to,a bankrupt India and her broken master.4 decades wasted supporting the loser side.

What you fail to understand is, that the US needs India way more, than India needs the US in terms of defense, or stratigic relationships.
India don't need US military, nor its arms and techs to defend itself. India already has a strong partner with the Russians and besides that more than capable options from the west to procure high tech wepons, like Israel, or the European nations.
The US instead needs Indian military power and the strategic location of India, to have a counter weight against China. Be in in form of IAs man power, INs fleet in the Indian Ocean, or IAF to pose a threat to Chinas western borders, they all are strategicaly important to deter China!
Of course the US forces are the most powerful in the world, but neither they can fight China in the east (with South Korea, Japan, or Taiwan) and at the same time in the west, to keep them away from the Arab countries and oil supply. India is the only natural blockade for them and the US simply can't afford to lose this strategic advantage!
That's why the US is offering us now nearly everthing you have, even things we don't need, or never asked for. You want to get us as an ally and besides that, use this huge market to make money. So if you think, the US are doing India a favour, you are mistaken!

It is simply in your interest to have a closer relationship to India, that's why you came to us, although you supported Pakistan for decades. But China is rising rapidly and neither your old allies in Europe, nor those in east Asia are powerful enough to stand up and pose a threat to China.

and thats precisely why i am a little cautious at every deal being made with US..i dont want India to become another pakistan...They helped pakistan to counter USSR and are now offering us everything to us to use us as a counterweight to china..
I prefer closer proximity with china any day over US..

Feel free to disagree:cheers:

The only nation the US has an "equal" relationship with is China. When India holds $1 trillion of US debt, India will be "equal".

Did Bush or Obama took Chinese permission before meeting with the Dalai Lama or selling weapons to Taiwan?

Well, Obama did. As for weapons to Taiwan, there is a secret agreement between the Pentagon and the PRC LA for these sales so as to justify increases in the defence budgets in both nations .....:agree:

That's why I also say, it's good to add US arms, or weapons but only in minor numbers, to be less dependent on them. They can offer good stuff, but mainly we have to follow their rules and restrictions, but as long as we have more than enough other options, we don't have to go that way. Just look at countries like Japan, Israel, or Pakistan that are very dependent on the US, that is simply not the way I want to see India in the future. So yes to low numbers of specialised aircrafts like C130J, C17, P8I, Apache, or CH 53, but clearly NO to F16IN, F18SH, or US engines for LCA.

It is a mutually beneficial relationship...without US technology and support there is no way India can ever develop enough militarily to present a challenge to China.

It is not America's responsibility to hold India's hand and treat her with kid gloves because of India's insecurities. It is below India's stature to show these insecurities all the time BTW.

Please read my post again, because I said US wants India to back them up against China!
India did not asked for US help and don't have any insecureties, we are capable to defend ourself and if necessary, we a have a trusted partner with Russia, that helped us before too.
