BEIJING:
“We have submitted our hybrid wheat varieties to Pakistan’s government for approval,” said Guard Group CEO Malik Ali.

“Once we gain approval, we will start production of hybrid wheat in Pakistan in collaboration with Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences (BAAFS),” CEO of the agricultural giant said.

“We hope that like hybrid rice, hybrid wheat will also bring a revolution in the agriculture sector of Pakistan.”

Till now, five research stations have been established and field work has been carried out on high-yielding varieties that are tolerant to heat, drought and salinity.

“So far, we have finalised four hybrid wheat varieties and achieved about 40% increase in the yield of wheat that we breed.”

On hybrid agricultural varieties, the Guard Group has a successful model of its own to follow. The company is the largest producer of hybrid rice in Pakistan.

Since 2002, it has been working together with Yuan Longping High-tech Agriculture Company, a Chinese seed group named after the renowned pioneer researcher in hybrid rice Yuan Longping, for research, production and commercialisation of hybrid rice in Pakistan.

Now, the hybrid rice seeds have reached the international market.

“Pakistan has experienced a rice revolution with the hybrid technology from China as our companies are exporting rice to almost 48 countries around the world. Pakistan earns about $2.04 billion in foreign exchange from hybrid rice export,” shared Ali.

He hoped to apply the experience of hybrid rice to hybrid wheat. “Hopefully in next two years, we will bring about a revolution in wheat crop.”

Wheat is a staple food that has an important bearing on national food security. According to a report of China Pakistan Agricultural and Industrial Cooperation Platform (CPAIC), in 2020, the BAAFS-Guard experimental wheat base in Pakistan was greeted with a bumper harvest.

Compared with the best local wheat variety, Beijing hybrid wheat features 90% less seed sowing and 20% higher yield. This can help Pakistan save plentiful land for planting other agricultural products, which is of great significance to food security in Pakistan.

“We choose to cooperate with China because it is a leading country in the world in terms of agricultural production and technology,” Ali said.

“Besides, the second phase of CPEC with agriculture sector as one of its focuses will provide more opportunities in joint research and bilateral trade of agri products.”

Instead of using expensive wheat seed, we can use some other technique to boost our production. These imported seeds are expensive and are rarely successful everywhere.

not if we learn to make the hybrid seeds, which i believe we're doing for some stuff.

Hybrid rice has jacked production
I think with wheat and cotton we can jack production by 50% too just with seed
Add better management/fertilizer/seeding techniques production can go up 100%

Add drip irrigation we can cultivate 70% more land and potential up production by 300%

Add multiple crops(instead 1-2) you can basically feed the whole world

Best example is california..10x productivity of pakistan with just 50MAF of water vs pakistan 150MAF water

Another JKT in making ?

Americans destroyed our seeding industry throught these "hybrids" now let's see how this hybrid turns out to be.
? Are americans mentioned anywhere?
And you hage no seed industry.
Your seeds are old and low yeild heirlook verities. Modern seeds have replaced old ones due to better easy sowing conditions and longer shelf life and resistance to disease and insect.
If we dont revolutionize we would not be able to provide food for our people. Once seed is being selected. It is then produced locally in seed centers.
Dont need to be baised on everything. Guard family are as rich as jkt and what does jkt has to do with this.
I want to know about your way of thinking.
With 1 percent agricultural knowledge you wouldn't have said this.

You basically need three things
1- land
2- water
3- heat

We have all three
If we can match california productivity or even half of it..we can feed a billion people

Pakistan has huge swaths of lands not irrigated in punjab and sindh(thal & thar)

Forget about balochistan..thats whole different thing

Unforutanely even new irrigation systems arent moving towards drip irrigation

California uses 30-40% of water througj deslaination and bring water 100s of miles away from clorado river
We dont have to do this

My father told me that under CPEC When chinese looked at our irrigation system their reaction was

"WTF :what:"

@Pakistansdefender
I have limited knowledge but I am sceptical of it. I think in uzair younus program one lady talked about modified cotton seed.

The main thing is in previous generation, dandruff was scare. Now everyone has it and it doesn't go away. Would shampoo companies make a formula to remove it, ever? @peagle

Though it's hybrid not GMO but still I don't believe it. To increase something you have to lose something.

Bhai jaan, meri yaad kiun aa gaee, my tummy is full, and so is my head of hair, for the time being, please don't jinx it lol, and I've never had dandruff all my life :yahoo:

Although I've heard occasional use of coal tar shampoo has a part in maintaining a healthy scalp. I've recently started using it, just for the sake of it, middle age and fear of losing hear lol

Just thought that you have more info about GMO and hybrid seed stuff. I know kinnu is hybrid of Malta and Narangi. But both were local.

The dandruff stuff is what I observed. Our elders started using soap in childhood. Whereas shampoo was used when we were babies. So, we have a lot of dandruff problems. I think shampoo makers put something so that our scalp gets temporarily relief.

Similarly GMO's seeds need particular pesticides from the same company to give good yield. All so that they cannot run out of business. Same as shampoo industry.

I'm afraid my agricultural knowledge is limited, and that too largely related to the potential of Pakistan, and the wastefulness in our approach towards agriculture. So, the political aspect of agriculture, rather then agriculture itself.

Regarding the shampoo, I don't know yaar, but I can share my experiences. Many of my friends have had issues with dandruff, both younger and older then myself. The first decade of my life was spent in Pakistan, but we always used head and shoulders, I do not remember using anything else. In my adult life I regularly use different shampoos/conditioners/shower gels, because I get the impression that our skin/hair gets used to a product, and I do find I experience better results/reaction with this approach.

So, if there's anything in shampoos, in my case it has not raised any issues. I have read that dandruff issues have a genetic, or a diet component. Genetics being the same, as they are unlikely to change in few generations, It could be that our diets have changed drastically, and that has played havoc with people's dandruff situations.

Search about Monsanto. We had a strong seeding industry now there is none thanks to JKT.

Hopefully with this production will increase similar to rice, 30-40%. Pakistan also have to feed Afghanistan.

I think we should let afghans import food from russia ..russian wheat is poor quality but cheaper
