Hi friends,

As designers have said, LCA MK 2 shall be lighter by 500 KG and its weight shall be around 6.0 Tons. Can we discuss the possible areas where this weight reduction can be achieved?

Your views are well come.

well contrarry to the popular beleave even LCA MK1 is close to 5680Kgs than advertised 6500 Kg (that was Prototype 1s wieght with onli 30% carbon composites and all that flight testing machienarry )

as for MK2 it will have more than 45% carbon composites , better aerodynamiks , less drag and bigger air inakes (10-15% better than MK1) and possiballi more internal feul & better feul economy+ 2 extra hard points

possiballi more internal feul

No there is no question of Possiblity, it will have 1000 KG more fuel.

Can you support your statement with link or reference?

That data of 5680kg is from famous defence Analyst Mr. Harry's Research. He is the one till date who has given the best insight of LCA Tejas capability. Then it was said that scientist associated with this program is trying their best to reduce further 200kg so that it can brought to the mentioned 5.5 ton original ASR. But this data is from 2007-08 and many things has changed since then and
no one can tell you the actual weight of Tejas currently as the data has never been disclosed in public domain.

There is one more source from late 2012 (not very reliable though) which claims Tejas wieght to be 5450kg

fly without pilots, thats will reduce weight by at least 90lbs considering its Indian pilots
That's one alternative. The other is to empty out the fuel tanks before take-off! :D The next is to remove the engines. :partay:

Ok, seriously, some ways to reduce weight could be to re-engineer some of the displays and sub-systems within the cockpit which will lop off at least 300 kilos. Extra fuel tanks should be discarded too. The undercarriage can be redesigned with lighter weight material.

There's little difference in the weight of the GE 404 and GE 414 engines, the latter being 1,110 kg. There's nothing more I see that can reduce the weight. Tejas is constructed of light weight aluminum-lithium alloys, carbon-fiber composites (C-FC), and titanium alloy steels. So there's not much one can do here to reduce weight further.
