How can The weight of LCA MK2 to be reduced by 500 KG?

Can LCA MK2 achieve its target weight of 6.0 tons?

Use fiber wherever its possible. However it will increase cost. See each part and take the challenge to reduce its weight, like tires the fiber type material may be used to reduce its weight or of rubber tires itself.
 
1) Removal of telemetry instrument.
2) further optimization of some heavy wight sub-systems.
3) Removal of the lead part that currently LCA carries.
4) Slowly increase its composite content

Drastic meausre
1) Remove tail and use thrust vectoring.

Your assburn is pretty apparent.It's but natural for a country which hasn't got a single achievement in its books for the past 65 or so years to react in this manner.Now instead of offering your brain farts for the Indian Tejas go and try to convince your neighbors to get their children vaccinated for Polio.I guess in that way u would do greater good to your country.
 
Wings. Trash the wings and use a thorium reactor instead of the engine. India's a world leader in thorium-tech - It's also on the ITER, so that's saying something too. The thorium should help accelerate the LCA to hypersonic speeds, rendering the wings completely redundant. The LCA could then also double as a re-usable space vehicle. Win - win.

As designers have said, LCA MK 2 shall be lighter by 500 KG and its weight shall be around 6.0 Tons. Can we discuss the possible areas where this weight reduction can be achieved?

Do you have a propper source? Maybe they aim on improvements to get the MK1 down to such figures, for MK2 that's impossible, simply by looking at the weight increases after the upgrade. I would rather expect it up to 500Kg heavier than lighter.

- extended airframe
- additional fuel tanks
- additional avionics
- most likely AESA radar
- most likely IRST
- possible weight increase through structural changes, to carry more payload?

So to get to an emptyweight of 6t, they would need to reduce the weight not by 500Kg but roughly by 1000Kg after all this was done.
 
That data of 5680kg is from famous defence Analyst Mr. Harry's Research. He is the one till date who has given the best insight of LCA Tejas capability. Then it was said that scientist associated with this program is trying their best to reduce further 200kg so that it can brought to the mentioned 5.5 ton original ASR. But this data is from 2007-08 and many things has changed since then and
no one can tell you the actual weight of Tejas currently as the data has never been disclosed in public domain.

There is one more source from late 2012 (not very reliable though) which claims Tejas wieght to be 5450kg

Actually this weight is a bloody chutiya sort of thing. How to calculate? Some body consider the weight of oil of hydraulic in that some body not, Somebody adds weight of paylons in that where somebody don't.

Anybody know about Tejas mk1's combat load??...just combat load no fuel.
and what would be mk2's ???
and comparison with its class please...


It is munimum 3.5 tons exclusive of Paylon. 2 short range air to air missile and laser pod.

- extended airframe__Yes air frame will be extended but simultaneously there shall be a lots of structural optimization so difficult to believe that it will be increase weight.
-- additional fuel tanks___ Yes biger fuel tank will add some weight.
-- additional avionics___Do not agree. Avionics are getting more and more compact such as single chip guidance. Additional 1 or 2 avinics will hardly increase weight.
- most likely AESA radar_ No. Since AESA Radar will not have mechanical searing SO weight will reduce.
- most likely IRST___DO not know.

However I fore see following area of weight reduction.

1) Use of More composite in surface and other parts.
2) Merging of more and more part into a single one.
3) MK1 uses 300 KG Ballast for weight balancing. Designers say that That will totally miss in MK2 so there is a clear 300 KG weight reduction.
4) Designers of nay LCA says that they will bought down the NAVAL tejas' landing gear weight down to match the weight of Air-force LCA which is 600 KG. This simply mean that Air-force LCA may further reduce the weight in Landing gear.
5) There has been a lots miniaturization and weight reduction in electronics. So they will not only reduce the weight but also release a lots of space.

What we "believe" and what we "know" are 2 different things!

We know, that the airframe will be extended for about 0.5m and that such an ammount of airframe parts will add to the empty weight. But we don't know about possible weight reductions now, that's where your believe comes in, but that hardly prove anything.
You also believe that only 1 or 2 avionics will be added, or that they will not weight much, but that's not a prove either. The cockpit alone will see new larger MFDs, it is likely that more EW sensors or systems will be added, so no matter what, the weight will increase.
Btw, it's wrong that AESA's will be lighter, since the whole radar system is much heavier even without a repositioner:

Zhuk ME (puls doppler radar with repositioner) - diameter of 624mm, weight 220Kg
Early Zhuk AE (AESA) - diameter of 575mm, weight 220Kg
Later Zhuk AE (AESA) - diameter of 688mm, weight 275Kg

All official specs, of the Phazotron specboards! The fact is, the weight increase of the AESA's is even a problem, since they often limit the size of the radar. The Russians promised to offer a Zhuk AESA with 200Km detection range, but the radar was far too heavy which badly shifted the weight balance of the fighter. That's why they had no option than to reduce it's size to the current 688mm and a reasonable weight increase. The Gripen AESA adds around 50KG compared to the older radar and both have repositioners. The EF AESA radar is so heavy, that the consortium thinks about adding weight to the rear end of the fighter, to balance the weight again..., so an AESA in the LCA MK2 will add more weight for sure!
Gripen E's IRST adds around 55Kg, compared to the older version without the system.

So if you stick to what we know and judge that, you will see that a considerable ammount of weight will be added. You simply can't counter that by using more composites, especially not at the surface. Even if the newly added 0.5m of the airframe are fully made of composites, they add weight!
The main counter of this weight addition is the increased fuel, while only minor weight reductions can be achieved. Even the Gripen E is given in latest specs with more than 500Kg weight increase compared to the older version.
