The BJP may be criticising the UPA government for its strong-arm tactics against yoga guru Baba Ramdev, but it is being alleged that in the BJP-ruled Himachal Pradesh, a prime land has been allotted to his Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust at a throwaway price.

The Himachal Pradesh opposition has seized the opportunity to slam the state government, asking for a probe into the land deal.

The Himachal government had given 96 bighas of prime land near Solan in Himachal Pradesh to Ramdev's Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust at a throwaway price, sources said.

The land is alleged to have been allotted to Patanjali Yogpeeth for a mere Rs 18,000 per bigha while the market rate is Rs 40,000 per bigha.

Punjab's former chief minister and its Congress chief Amrinder Singh, whose erstwhile royal family had once owned that land, has slammed the Himachal government for giving undue favours to Baba Ramdev, who he claims is a fraud.

In 1956, Amarinder Singh's father had gifted this land to the Punjab government to build the low-cost Indira Holiday home. Later, it became a part of Himachal Pradesh, when the hill areas of Punjab were merged into the state in 1966.

Himachal government maintains that there is nothing wrong in giving the land to an organisation to promote yoga and ayurveda.
