HALCON Precision-Guidance Kit Systems

HALCON, a regional leader in the production and supply of precision-guided weapons, announced the award of a AED 7 billion contract by the United Arab Emirates Air Force Air Defence (UAE AFAD) for its Thunder P32 and P31 (P3) range of precision guided munitions at the International Defence and Exhibition Conference (IDEX) 2021 taking place in the United Arab Emirates capital, Abu Dhabi 21 – 25 February. The P3 is a family of cost-effective, short-range, guidance kits that can be fitted to the Mk-82 (P-32) and the Mk-81 (P-31) general purpose aerial munitions. Thunder utilises inertial guidance augmented by global navigation satellite system (GNSS) information (GAINS). A semi-active laser (SAL) seeker configuration further improves accuracy performance against designated targets.

HALCON produce two lines of drop-launched, unpropelled, precision-guidance kit systems. These air-to-surface kits incorporate aerodynamic tail control to guide down-range, cross-range, and back-range directioning. The Thunder system provides guided delivery for NATO STD warheads of MK81, MK82 and MK84, while the Desert Sting system provides delivery for warheads ranging from 5kg to 35kg. Designed to provide guided delivery of standard MK81 (P31), MK82 (P32) and MK84 (P4) GP aerial munitions, the Thunder System represents a cost-effective, short-range guided bomb kit system that combines an inertial measurement unit and global navigational satellite system measurements to guide the system to a pre-programmed target coordinates. The Thunder kit is offered in P31, P32 and P4 configurations.

Maybe the deal was canceled? The link was take off Army recognition and deleted from other sites. If you weren't aware Denel Dynamics developed the P32 and P2 for UAE before they had a good R&D in 2016-2018 but all data and intellectual property was transferred to Halcon. Supposedly South African investigators are very mad and they are trying to press charges on people associated with it.

“The P2 and P3 missiles were the subject of the investigation that the IP was unlawfully transferred to Halcon, a company that succeeded Barij in the JV,” the SIU said. “This was done under a disguise of letter signed by former member of Denel Dynamics who was involved in the stealing of data packs for the SAMI.

“Another official at Denel signed off the Board minutes of Barij Dynamics Board that authorizing (sic) the transfer of the P2 and P3 missiles to Halcon. This member did this without board authority and executive Denel authority.”

Saeed Al Mansoori, CEO of HALCON, said: “At AED 7 billion, this is one of the largest contracts of its kind for this type of weapons system anywhere in the world. We feel a great sense of responsibility in having been entrusted with such an undertaking, and have full confidence that the performance of our P3 system will fully justify the UAE Air Force Air Defence’s trust in us.”

Why would the deal be cancelled..when it is made in the UAE for the UAE air force.. The deal goes on and any legalities will be addressed..

Why do you think it taken down from the site? Seems like it vanished.

After digging around, I have come to the conclusion that Koral was neutered via UAE Mirage200-9 a/c's. What I would like to know is how? What particular weapon was used?

Is there a thread where we can discuss this further?

I cant say for sure, but I suspect that Storm Shadows were used from the M2K. They took off from an EAF base and were refuelled over Libya by A330s.

Was there anything the koral could against them? can TERCOM and terminal IIR seeker be jammed?

Hawks and Koral are both fairly immobile and the cruise missile would arrive before they knew what hit them.
