HAL pushes for AESA Equipped LCA Tejas Mark I-A (LCA-1P) as interim improved version of Mark I

Probably 20- 25 years. The key is building the first aircraft, after that things become evolutionary. The problem with India was that after we built the Ajit, we did not keep coming up with new designs. It's alleged that the reason why we did not build a follow-on for Ajit was because the defence minister at the time was corrupt and took money as commissions to buy foreign products. This killed all Indian efforts. So with LCA we had to start from scratch. Now that the LCA has become fairly done, the next jet (AMCA) and other light jets that follow should be just fine without many of these problems. The first one (LCA, Arjun etc.) is always the most difficult. The next one (LCH after ALH) is always easier.

Yes,

We have done fairly good with LCA. Now they say that 800 KG weight reduction is possible. This will significantly improve the T/W ratio and all parameter such as Climb rate and turn rate will improve. If we can make its aerodynamic better, and add some internal fuel capacity than the efficacy of the plane will improve by a great margin. We need to resolve the inlet design issue as well as engine intergration issue also. If we can do that by 2017 than there is nothing like that.

I agree high time these PSUS are reformed

Reform my arse. Privatise HAL. Have a Ratan Tata at the helm of affairs. Put the fear of the god in the employees like they do in TCS. Deliver or loose your jobs, no questions asked.

And then watch the sea change.

Such strategic PSUS should be retained rather we should focus on bringing pvt mgt to HAL don't forget DMRC & SAIL are PSUs too

be realistic, HAL can not even sought out IJT and other trainer programs it's been working on for years and you expect it to reduce 800 kgs.

what do u know about our AESA radar that is still under testing????
Well hopefully Uttam AESA Going on Schedule as Per Reports The software update has been completed and the DRDO is testing the radar in air-to-air & air-to-ground mode.Hopefullly the Israeli Help will be taken and From KNIRTI institute Russia which Partner in FGFA Project

Defence News - AESA Radar under project 'UTTAM' being tested on LCA Tejas

Note-Russians take 3m2 as fighter target but india takes 2 m2 as reference pointy

Approximately 184 t/r elements seen.
All are quad i.e 1 element is formed by a culmination of 4 units so total elements is 184*4=736,similar to zhuk-ae/fga-35 aesa arrangement.

*But even though it too has a peak power of about 3.4 kw, uttam aesa, has Target range of 94 km for 2 m2)

Mk1 will take at least 3 to 4 hours to fulfill all orders.

Can you be specific? 3 to 4 hours doing what?

All fighters take decades to develop. Check EFT and Rafale development frames. Fact is that IAF really has screwed around with specifications a lot (just like IA for Arjun)

Rafale and EF are 4.5 gen aircraft and not a 3rd gen replacement like LCA.

Rafale and EF are inducted while LCA is still in prototype and testing phase. IAF has not screwed up with specificaions, HAL is unable to keep pace with modern technology. Why should IAF fund and show interest in a fighter that was designed for 1970 when it is the 21st century now?

Was the original LCA capable of firing BVR missiles? Did it have TVC? Could it supercruise? Was it supposed to have AESA?

Technology is evolving at a rapid pace and desi PSUs simply cannot cope up.

Just throw all PSUs and bring in private sector. These PSU employees have no sense of duty, have no accountability, they cannot be fired, they have no motivation and they can never come up with anything good for the country.

Listen to Air Force you bureacrates in HAL as users are not convinced and actually they are trying to post there wish list on Air Force

I propose following change in MK1.

1) Increase some length and internal fuel if possible.
2) Guidance on single cheap.
3) Redesigned low weight High strength wings (If possible size reduction should be attampted)
4) Low weight landing gear.
5) reduce the Bolting. That adds to a lots of weight.
6) Increase engine thrust (Dry thrust in particular)
7) Redesigned redome for better aerodynamic capability as well as range increase of Radar. .
8) More composite in surface.
9) Attempt 800 KG weight reduction as promised. No dead weight.
10) Redesign Air intake and engine integration.
11) Better Radar.
12) Engine with better thrust like Gripen.

First of all build a model withingn 2 years as promised with 800 KG lower weight. Order shall automatically follow.

Whatever you have asked, is to be done in mk2
We are going for mk2' because in mk1 we were not able to achieve it.

Air Marshal M Matheshwaran analyzes exactly why the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft will never fully meet the ASR and cannot become the IAF ‘s frontline fighter in the Lo segment.
