Govt decides to outsource country’s three major airports

Just in, as expected. I guess when no one is lending money for motorways and Metro rails, then give away airports:

Smart move, why spend billions in operations we don't specialize in? This way we get revenue and the operators will make sure they turn a profit for themselves by providing top notch travel experience as well as increasing the flight management and flight operations at a reduced cost. These operators will also help expand the airline business in Pakistan also.

How about we “outsource” or even better “sell off” Fauji Fertiliser, Fauji Cement & the rest ?

GMR group are involved in airport infrastructure and management.
Dilli, Goa, Mumbai.. many others all GMR revamped

much improved facilities, all of those..

no idea about any shady underhanded deals having taken place but was very WTF surprised to see this:

The participants were also told that 44 countries were pursuing the public-private-partnership formula including the US, UK, India, Bahrain, and Brazil where the airports were run under the PPP mode.
:o:

So would these big companies also takeover the customs, immigration and caa ??

The corruption only happens at caa, customs and fia(immigration) as they love getting bribes……they hassle people for money

But since country has no money to pay, who wiill invest? Other than some mian mansha types

Only controversy GMR was involved was with Maldives Government. GMR developed the Male International Airport in Maldives under PPP model but was forced out by new government which was aligned to China, under the pretext that bribes were given to previous govt. officials to get the contract. GMR went for arbitration in an international court and have won the case. Maldives owes them some 200 million dollars as compensation.

The government decided on Friday to outsource airports in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi in a bid to attract foreign direct investment and provide “world-class facilities” to passengers.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss matters pertaining to the aviation sector, a PM Office press release said.

It was decided that the government would hire the services of operators of international repute to run three major airports in the first phase.

As per the plan, the international operators would help run the said entities for a period of 20-25 years.

The meeting also decided to engage the International Finance Corporation to provide consultancy services.

The international operators would provide the services of international standards at the said airports besides uplifting them through foreign investment.

The meeting gave the Public Private Partnership Authority a go-ahead to initiate the formalities.

The prime minister instructed the authority to ensure the accomplishment of the process transparently and in accordance with the highest standards.

The participants were also told that 44 countries were pursuing the public-private-partnership formula including the US, UK, India, Bahrain, and Brazil where the airports were run under the PPP mode.

Our lucrative routes have already been taken over by Turkish and Gulfies, PIA fleet has only 30 functional planes, some of them on dry lease.... we fvcking jokers .. And now airports, they provide the service and take foreign exchange home ...... we have the worst leadership in mankind... we are not capable enough to run the country....

Also sell the Pakistan railways to Japan or South Korea. Instead of borrowing money from Asian development bank, and laundering that money outside Pakistan, government should allow foreign companies to take over entire Railways project, building and operation. I am sure they can do much better job than our Government.
