What's new

Chinese traditional architectural style single houses getting popular in the city suburbs in China

Roads are really narrow too - but they provided parking spaces in an interesting way. I think it is more efficient space wise.

Footpaths are very important, without them there is no sense of community of neighborhood. Need local community parks, clubs, social gathering places etc.

..and thus we see how suburbanization started in the US

As I have said
US:
rural->urban->suburban

China:
rural->urban->...

It certainly is a lot healthier. I have one in my backyard.
Maybe you guys are starting to see the light as to one of the many reasons suburbanization became popular in the US.

You were driven to the suburbs by a mess of immigrants, we didn't have mass immigration.

City life will still be our mainstay.

Suburb lifestyle is very energy and resource intensive.

I got a feeling suburb house only for the mega rich or village man in China, Also best school in China is in the cities center where all the R&D and PHDs reside.

No, just like China is building new housing and infrastructure to lift people's standard of living the US government after WW2 had a program to build new housing and highways. But instead of developers building up cities with thousands of new multi-familes (as China is doing) they found people preferred their own single family homes and with the auto popular and new highways being built the suburbs were where almost all the development money went. The older dense cities got almost nothing.

Then television was creating new shows about people living in these new suburban communities (when previously it focused on city living) making even more people want to move out of the city.

China will not have land to do it. China need to maintain 1.8 billion MU farmland area.

🤔 Are you saying Chinese society after thousands of years of successfully living mostly in low homes was finally suddenly saved by leveraging Western technology to build tall multi-family buildings and mechanized farms?

China is not US, where houses look the same everywhere. China has so many old towns, villages cities, they are all being protected.

If you actually knew anything about weather you would immediately know that isn't possible.

There are traditional styles however that people prefer (Colonial/FarmHouse).

Chinese traditional houses ? The country is filled with Western styled and design ones all over the city area. Very little is left of that traditional which some even view as backward. Lol The modern one is the Western ones.
Just have to look at the amount of westerners /foreigners who designed all the vast majority of China's major city buildings.

Already a thread. Rather amazing actually to peruse..but not surprising.

Not a big fan of suburbs. China needs to keep to medium density housing (mid rise condos).

Did you even visited Chinese cities ever? you believe every city in China is like Shenzhen and Shanghai which have of decades of history all together?

Already a thread. Rather amazing actually to peruse..but not surprising.

Shanghai also claims it has some old architecture, and cities like Beijing and Xi'an laugh, we surely have different definitions for ‘’old architecture".
