seems like these american companies are surviving cz of constructions in China:woot:
 
And thus continuing the tradition of "made in China, but designed in America". :) I don't see it changing anytime soon.
Well, the Americans gain one of the world's largest market and the revenue their companies derive from it while the Chinese get the best designs and buildings the world has to offer thus making their cities modern and world class. It's globalisation, only the insecure!/isolationsists who don't want to integrate with the world get left behind. So its Win-win for both sides, they are both pragmatic powers.

US firms aren't the only one's countries turn to when they feel they lack the technical know-how to build such projects on their own.

It's just a phase. The US was obsessed with building skyscrapers taller and taller in the early 1900's but after about 70 years it just wasn't seen as something to do anymore. The 1973 Sears tower pretty much was the last (still in top 30 list after 44 years). Only the new World Trade Center was significant after it.
