China demands an end to US sanctions against Syria following the deadly earthquakes

Russia directly borders China and is not a war zone where materials are difficult to get in and out. You need to thank the Americans in turning Syria into a battle ground.

And Syria borders Iraq, a country almost fully controlled by Iran, very friendly to both. Your point fails at simple geography.

Chinese media reported that a second set of aid to Syria has been sent on Monday by the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) to help 10,000 people affected by the fatal earthquakes.

According to the China Central Television broadcaster, the second set of aid entails essential medicines, tents and clothing suitable for the harsh winter.

This is the second team after China transferred a rescue team last week to Syria as it designated approximately $4.4 million in emergency humanitarian assistance to the disaster-stricken country. Syria has received 220 tons of wheat from China and 3,000 tons of rice and more wheat are anticipated to be shipped in the near future.

The West did not even lift a finger

The death toll from the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria will "double or more" from its current level, which has already topped 34,000, according to the UN on Sunday.
At least 870,000 people in Turkey and Syria require hot meals right now and in Syria alone, up to 5.3 million people may have been displaced.

Despite the fact that the US Treasury announced the lifting of some sanctions off Syria in light of the earthquake, no Western country other than Italy has provided Damascus with aid following the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the country and Turkey, showcasing the West's practice of selective humanitarianism.

Sure, they all did that to themselves, US did nothing to hurt

To make it worse, isis is Israel-USA collaboration funded terrorist-outfit used for proxy wars to destabilize Middle East.

How can they care about the civilians while rooting for them to be terrorised to death or starved to death. Worst scums we are dealing at all the times.

You just confirmed that you do not believe in thoughts and prayers, just like the Godless commies in China. And if the atheists cannot even do that, they are not even helping with what they do have: their mountains of money and their piles of food. It seems to be clear who is paying lip service to helping serving humanity while trying to score cheap political points: China. Pathetic.

There is nothing stopping supplies of food going to Syria, least of all from those who claim to care about them and are not sending them help. But let us hate the country that the Syrians want to destroy for not helping them, but let those who call them friends go unmentioned for not helping them at all. Utter hypocrisy.
Do you understand the definition of economic sanction? How daft are you?

Obviously, not as daft as those who do not understand the humanitarian exemptions within them, or their need in the first place, and the many ways to bypass them for friends. :D

And you call this despicable? It is obvious China is just all words and no action.
All words no actions

China demands a condition that is already there. It exists.

Humanitarian aid is exempted from sanctions.

"Demanding" lifting of sanctions which are not applicable to humanitarian aid such earthquake relief points to either:

1. Ignorance and a loosey-goosey attitude to international situation or,

2. Deliberate politicization of a humanitarian disaster for selfish propaganda purposes.

It is true that geopolitical complications further prevent effective disaster relief.

February 13. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has agreed to let the United Nations deliver aid to Syria through two more border crossings from Turkey for three months, UN aid chief Martin Griffiths told a closed-door UN Security Council meeting, diplomats told the Reuters news agency.

The UN aid chief has said rescue efforts are coming to a close and that the world has so far failed people in northwest Syria, saying survivors there “rightly feel abandoned”.

In Syria, aid from government-held regions into the rebel-controlled territory has been held up by approval issues with the Hay’et Tahrir al-Sham armed group, according to the UN

Earthquake aids involve so many factors, anyone who believes some partial exemptions of the sanction will not hamper earthquake rescue effort is a moron.

China demands something that's non-existent.

1. Humanitarian aids are exempted from sanctions

2. All the roads to Damascus are open- air, land and water.

3. Pres. Assad also finally OKed delivery of aid via UN.

4. EU, US, Iran, Russia and many others already rushed help (although to the groups they recognize).

So, why bickering?

Support to Syria

On the morning of 8 February, the Syrian authorities requested to activate the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The request includes search and rescue teams, shelter and medicine.

The EU Emergency Response Coordination Centre is in contact with EU Member States and the United Nations to immediately channel possible offers to the people most in need in Syria.
In addition, the Commission is also announcing today an initial €3.5 million in emergency humanitarian assistance for Syria to help people in need to access shelter, water and sanitation, health various items they currently need, as well as to support the search and rescue operations.
Moreover, in Syria the EU is closely cooperating with our humanitarian partners. We are adjusting our ongoing humanitarian projects to respond to the crisis. Our partners, NGOs and UN agencies, are supporting affected medical facilities with medical kits, providing food and shelter, repairing damaged infrastructure.

Demanding lifting of non - existing restrictions refers to political immorality and opportunism. It actually hurts people in Syria because it creates needless confusion. If there was really such a problem, it should be relegated to the next party via silent diplomatic mechanisms.

In fact, if there were sanctions preventing humanitarian aid, the EU, which is a party to the sanctions, would not be able to provide both monetary and physical help.

Something doesn't look right.

All empty talk,, nothing reached desparate Syrian quake victims, what the west brings to Syria is only war, deaths and destruction.

It is bad moral to demand lifting of something that's non-existent.

It points to politicization of international humanitarian aid during a devastating earthquake.

International community will certainly note this cheap opportunism.

If there were barriers, the EU would not provide aid in the first place.

Or the Arab League, all of offered and provided help.

There are enough official data one can cite here.

Syria

The European Humanitarian Response Capacity is providing rapid relief to people affected by the earthquake.

EU stockpiles in Italy and Dubai have been mobilised to deliver emergency supplies. It includes items such as winterised tents, heaters, blankets, water, sanitation and hygiene kits and kitchen sets.

The aid will be distributed both in government-controlled areas together with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and in non-government-controlled areas in Northwest Syria in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

In addition, the Commission is looking at opportunities for a Team Europe approach, working with Member States to mobilise shelter items from their stocks.

Furthermore, via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, 10 European countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Romania, Slovenia, and Norway) have offered thousands of tents, blankets, sleeping bags, mattresses, beds, generators, heaters, medicines, food items, winter clothing, masks, and more, to the Syrian people.

2 Liaison Officers of the Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) will be deployed to Beirut today to support with the coordination of incoming EU assistance for Syria.

This comes on top of an additional initial amount of €3.5 million of humanitarian assistance to cover the most urgent needs, such as cash for shelter and non-food items, water and sanitation, health, and search and rescue.

If donation is key to end poverty, then the worlds would have been in better place. These amount of donations cannot keep the nation afloat. For that, you need viable economy. The fact that you are grinning with your smile is proof of your vibrant economy at your nation. If your nation was economic isolated, you will be begging to death. Get off high horse.

More empty talks

And Syria borders Iraq, a country almost fully controlled by Iran, very friendly to both. Your point fails at simple geography.

Iraq is another failed stated thanks to you know who with 12 US bases still present, and much of eastern Syria bordering Iraq is occupied by the US and its SDF puppets. Might as well give all the relief fund to the US military, hoping it would reach the Syrian government trying to send material that way.

China demands a condition that is already there. It exists.

As you have posted the article of exemptions, they exclude everything other than the US government and non-government entities. So no, Chinese aid wouldn't reach, nor would the Syrian government be able to purchase relief materials.

Compared to feeding six million Syrians as USAID is doing? :D

I am still grinning, but this time your naivete, that you have proven above, at how the world really works, not as we wish to see it work. Please carry on such discussions only after you have the maturity necessary. :D
