#BREAKING: US Navy destroyer came under attempted missile attack in intl waters off Yemen, ship not

This is correct but KSA does not in any way rely on American intelligence on the ground in Yemen. Besides American involvement in the current Yemeni conflict is very limited. Their focus, as you know, is entirely elsewhere. Moreover in the same region alone.

Also I would like to point out the obvious difference between targeting a navy destroyer and a unarmed aid-ship (catamaran). It is like comparing apples and oranges.

This was to be expected and is no achievement. After all the US navy has no rivals.

Ironically that aid-ship was intended for Houthi-occupied areas of Yemen (those that struggle the most humanitarian wise) and in the conflict so far nobody has been targeting aid workers, convoys, aid ships etc.

However the Houthis/Saleh, due to their many recent setbacks, became desperate and wanted their 5 minutes of attention.

I mean this is nothing new. They have fired dozens upon dozens of ballistic missiles towards KSA (almost every single has been intercepted) and artillery on a daily basis. Such actions have zero strategic aim other than killing as many civilians as possible. Which they have failed miserable at too.
What is your take on the incident in question (vessels being targeted in the sea)? Houthis trying to expand the conflict? Can they afford it?

Very daring but foolish move on the part of Houthis, I think.

We know that Saudis are having trouble dealing with the Yemen situation. Saudis must be pressing the US for help.

A missile attack with no US casualties or even damage to the destroyer! Another 'Gulf of Tonkin' incident to justify US naval bombardment to help the Saudi? I have serious doubts about this.

They attacked UAE warships too. Either way if there were any damage to us property US would start establishing democracy in Yemen by bombing pro Iran fighters ultimately helping Saudi in their adventure in Yemen.

Hard for you to believe therefor must be a ploy. Yeah, I can explain everything that way. I'm sure that more information will becoma available on the attack. Don't know why you are blabbing about 'Gulf of Tonkin' incident and justification: so far, the USN has shown nothing but restraint. Where are there reports documenting alledged naval bombardment?

I guess it's near by Yemenis Coast. And Americans must be having Sam systems atleast 80 km range.
Newer Arleigh Burkes have VL ESSM (50km+ range). All have Standard SM2MR VL missile, with a range of between 74 km and 170 km, depending on version and production block. Both ESSM and SM2 are semi-active radar homing missiles. ABs have also been receiving the active radar homing SM-6 (Standard ERAM) with a range of at least 240 km and up to 460 km.

"The SM-6’s range is classified but it is believed to be more than 200 miles, based on the range of a predecessor variant and comments from Pentagon officials."

nah.. we shouldn't do anything heavy handed. we should just keep knocking their missiles into the ocean.

since they have engaged our vessels that means we can use our missiles now instead of soft kill measures.

the kill chain
AEGIS----->SM-2------>ESSM------->RIM-116----->CIWS----->soft kill countermeasures
As far as I know, no Burkes have RAM (Rim116). Newer ships of this class retain only the rear CIWS and have ESSM to compensate and bring AMD capability farther out. Soft kill measures in order of descending range: active jamming, deception decoy, flares / IR decoys, chaff.

Seems like jamming/ deception of terminal guidance of missile... hence they crashed into sea after loosing their target...

Any one knows what kind of guidance is used on Noor??

Guidance system: Inertial navigation and terminal active radar. It has the DM-3B mono pulse radar, a millimeter-wave active radar used in the last stage of missile flight to find the target and home-in the missile on it. Because of its frequency, it is claimed that it is very hard to jam the radar.

Them targeting an unarmed aid ship (leased by the UAE) which was only full of expat workers (Indians, Pakistanis, Ukrainians etc.) did and will not change anything.
The 22 or so crew for ex-USN Swift consisted of people from these countries. The ship is owned by UAE's National Marine Dredging Company rather than UAE navy, which either leased or requisitioned it. Whether it was or was not carrying aid remains unclear at this point.

As far as I know, no Burkes have RAM (Rim116).

It's been tested, such as this live firing on DDG-78, but no Burkes currently have RAM.

SeaRAM is to be integrated onto Burkes in Rota, part of the 6th Fleet, with two getting the system in FY16 and two more in FY17:

According to a February reprogramming request by the Pentagon comptroller, the Navy requested $15.3 million in Fiscal Year 2015 to get started on filling the urgent need, to be followed by additional funding in FY 2016. That money will help “capitaliz[e] on factory flexibility to work an extra shift,” minimizing the delay to the FMS contract.

USS Porter (DDG-78) and USS Carney (DDG-64), which arrived in Spain this year, will undergo selected restricted availabilities in fiscal year 2016 and will receive the SeaRAM upgrade then. Hill said Porter should be through maintenance and back on station by about November.

USS Ross (DDG-71) and USS Donald Cook (DDG-75) will have availabilities in FY 2017 and will receive SeaRAM then.

The guided-missile destroyer USS Mason (DDG-87) was unsuccessfully attacked with two missiles fired from Yemen on Sunday, Pentagon officials told reporters early Monday morning.

The destroyer was operating with two other U.S. ships – USS Nitze (DDG-94) and USS Ponce (AFSB(I)-15) — that were tasked to the region following the attack on a UAE logistics vessel HSV Swift on Oct. 1.

USS Ponce (AFSB(I)-15):

An Austin-class amphibious transport dock. She was intended to be decommissioned in 2012, but she gained a reprieve to be converted at short notice into a testbed for the Afloat Forward Staging Base concept, in which she would act as a base for mine-sweeping MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopters and small mine-clearance vessels in the Persian Gulf. Since the conversion, she has been used to test other ideas and technologies, such as the Laser Weapon System and operating US Army attack helicopters at sea.

The Ponce became the testbed platform for the Laser Weapon System (LaWS), with installation of a prototype weapon system for field testing in August 2014. In December 2014 the United States Navy reported the LaWS system works perfectly, and that the commander of the Ponce is authorized to use the system as a defensive weapon. On 9 December 2014, the U.S. Navy released video footage of the LaWS in operation. The exact level of power the LaWS will use is unknown but estimated between 15–50 kW for engaging drones, small aircraft and high-speed boats.

The Ponce was deployed to the Persian Gulf in late August 2014. The LaWS will remain in use on the Ponce as long as it is at sea, potentially into 2017.

The laser can blind sensors, target electronics, or destroy a target with precision. For example, officials said, to destroy a target, the laser can be fired at its fuel tank.
But officials say one of most useful features doesn’t involve firing the laser at all. The system can track targets at a greater distance than other shipboard equipment — including at night.
“It’s great as far as determining what a contact is doing,” said Lt. j.g. Katie Woodard, the officer in charge of the laser weapon system aboard the Ponce. “We have a great optic system on there.”
“It gives us more time to deal with contacts,” she said, referring to any object that may be approaching the ship from the air or water.
Lt. Kristofer Kalstad supervised the initial use of the weapon aboard the ship.
“This brings so much more to the table than just a weapon system, defensive or otherwise,” he said.

Makes you wonder ....

Since this is PDF, Its noteworthy that the Missiles Fired were : C 802 which 70x ordered by PN and arms the F-22P

Also noteworthy

The USS Nitze was accompanied by the guided missile destroyer USS Mason when they were harassed by four of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warship on Tuesday near the Strait of Hormuz.

Can also make you wonder: someone settling an old score?

And the future S-20 submarines as well as Azmat class, Jurrat class, Jalalat class....
Not to mention intended for use on JF-17 in naval strike role.

false flag to blame wrong country

recall Israeli attack on USS Liberty which was blamed on Egypt and Americans were going to nuke it

Tell that to the Shiites and the Kurds (aka the majority of Iraq population) who were supposed to live under a brutal tyran just to make you happy.
To make me HAPPY ? I am not Arab lol. Just as youre not American !

So they liberated the Kurds from The Tyrant ? is that so ? well How about liberating Palestine then eh ?
Certainly the Kurds and Shiites were not treated as the way Palestinians are being treated nor the Shiites or Kurds asked for US help

Bro,

Why provoke the Americans in the first place?

Houthis should concentrate on Saudi-led forces on the ground. They should not try to expand the conflict. Otherwise, their fate would be similar to that of ISIS.
ISIS is still at large. And Secondly please try to understand the context in which the post was referred to

Guys, don't go off topic please.

Trouble you said? Not sure what you were expecting.
I am afraid the facts seems to tell the tale otherwise. The recent order of Tanks from US is the clear example out of which 20 tanks are replacement for the one lost. Fighting a war and sustaining is by no means an easy feat my dear.

Guys, don't go off topic please.

Yes, n may be it was Pirated version as well , as per this report.

Definitely noor version...caz iranians will never export original chinese systems to irregular forces...

C 802 is mainstay missile of chinese navy ... and newer versions wont be that easy to detect or intercept
