LAHORE: Various people are injured in a powerful explosion at Bhati Gate near Kerbala Game Shah, Geo News reported Tuesday.

The injured are being shifted to hospital.

According to Rescue sources, at least 15 people were injured at Lohari Chowk.

LAHORE: A blast ripped through a procession taken out in connection with the Chehlum of Imam Hussain at Bhati Gate area of the city, killing seven and injuring more than 30 people, ARY NEWS reports Tuesday.

Police said a suicide bomber blew himself up when he was stopped for checking at a checkpoint made on the route of procession at Bhati Gate.

Some seven people, among them four policemen, were killed and more than 30 injured in the explosion, officials said.

Spokesman Rescue 1122 said the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, with ambulances rushed to the spot.

Chehlum, the 40th day of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and other martyrs of Karbala, is being observed today across the country with mourning processions being taken out in different cities and towns of Pakistan.

The government has claimed to take extraordinary security measures to protect the mourning processions but the sad incidents show a lap in security.
