Equador helicopter crash news-Dhruv chopper crashes during military parade in Equador

Quito (Equador): An Indian-made Dhruv helicopter crashed during a military parade injuring its two pilots and prompting authorities to ground another six recently purchased Dhruv choppers.

The helicopter was flying in formation with two other choppers over an air force base near Quito yesterday when it suddenly veered off course and slammed to the ground, witnesses said.

"The two crew members managed to get out by their own means and were taken to hospital. Their condition is apparently good," air force general Leonardo Barreiro told reporters.

He said the chopper was destroyed in the accident, which is under investigation. The crew members were both trained in India.

The remaining six Dhruv helicopter bought from India six months ago for USD 45 million "have been grounded for the moment until the investigation is finished," the presidential office said in a statement.

The helicopters include one used by President Rafael Correa.

The ships were five laps around the base, but one of them turned 90 degrees and failed to get up, stayed with the propellers rotating perpendicular to the track and fell to crash into the platform, 300 meters from the hangar of the FAE .

Meanwhile, the commander of the SAF, General Rodrigo Bohorquez, lamented the accident. He said that one can not rule out any hypothesis to determine the cause of the crash. It found that helicopter turned more than they should.

:cry::hitwall:

I have not much knowledge about helis....Can helis not take 90 degree turn ??

This incident can effect export contracts of Dhruv.

Very unfortunate incident - lets not jump to conclusions as to the cause of the crash, it will come after the investigation.

If its a technical / Mechanical failure of the craft then India has to quickly rectify it.

Go at it......

ALH Dhruv Crashes At Ecuador Military Parade

Helicopter crashes in Eucador air show
Two helicopter pilots have been hospitalised after a spectacular crash during a military parade in Eucador.

The recently purchased Dhruv helicopter was flying in formation with two other choppers over an air force base near Quito when it suddenly veered off course and slammed into the ground.

"The two crew members managed to get out by their own means and were taken to hospital," air force general Leonardo Barreiro told local media.

"Their condition is apparently good."

Ecuadorian Vice President Lenin Moreno was among those attending the air show, to mark the 89th anniversary of Eucador's air force, when the sudden crash plunged the carefully choreographed event into chaos.

Local authorities have grounded another six Dhruv choppers, recently purchased from India for $50 million, as they probe the exact cause of the crash.

The helicopters include one used by President Rafael Correa.

Bad press.
HAL should immediately send a team for investigations and if a manufacturing fault replace the Heli ASAP. This gesture would go miles for PR and promoting further sales.

Yes, a ten member team stationed in Ecuador is already at the scene and are in possession of the CVR/FDR.
We will know the cause of the crash soon.
Btw, as I mentioned earlier, both the pilots walked away safely from the crash, no major fire broke out. Should say a lot about the design of the aircraft.
